CHAPTER THIRTEEN Time hung on her back like a heavy weight. It had been hours since she had awakened. She remembered vaguely when Edna came in and placed a tray of food on the dresser and somehow in her stupor, of how she had staggered over and ate it. They must have given her a sedative, as it was now the following evening and she felt as though the night before had been a bad dream. Christy's body seemed none the worse for the ordeal of going out into the desert. The argument, that it was only a dream was belied by the numerous scratches and cuts she had on her body. Christy remained in bed, snuggled under the warmth of the blankets, eyes closed. She knew that there wasn't any point in trying to get out of the room again. It was surely locked this time.
