Michael's point of view
Forbidden love? What does she mean? Is it forbidden, or does she not know? The more days that go by, the more questions I have. First, we are destined to be, and now we are forbidden.
"Angelique, what do you mean? How would you know?"
"I have been alive since 1622, and I have never once seen or heard of a union between two magical people."
"Surely, being that old, you could research it. Ask a witch older than you, perhaps?"
"I know of no witch older than I am."
"Surely there must be someone. Who else would have written the rules you follow? There is always a first who doesn't want to die."
"Perhaps the three of us can find out more than me by myself anyway."
Freya's point of view
Thus began the extensive process of researching every witch story we could find. Angelique started with all the ones she had met and knew, but all were dead ends. Always a witch and a mortal, always dying with their beloved. We were losing hope and quickly, until we read about Morgana. We could find no records of her death, only her birth and life until the end of the 9th century. Morgana had primarily been a Viking shieldmaiden and a very successful one. We began to trace her lineage until we found a Morgan Matthews, said to reside in West Virginia.
"Do you think it's her?"
"It's possible, but I wouldn't get my hopes up."
"We're going, I have to know why love between a witch and a wizard is forbidden."
And so our trip to West Virginia began. It was a little bit of a drive since we lived in Charleston, SC, but we got there in one piece. Before you ask, my mother had agreed to watch the children before the three of us left. We pulled up to an old Victorian home. It was stunning to look at. A beautiful grey brick home that almost looked like a castle, with beautiful brown highlights.
"Are you going to marvel at my house all day, or are you going to knock and come in?"
"Oh, I didn't realize you were watching us. Yes, may we come in and talk?"
"I wouldn't imagine you witches would come all this way not to talk, so, please come inside. Also, ignore Betsy, she just an old ghost who used to live here and doesn't want to leave."
The home was even more stunning inside. It had antiques from every century and decorated so masterfully that absolutely nothing clashed.
"You have a beautiful home, Ms. Morgan."
"Thank you, Freya. I have worked very hard on it for many centuries."
"I never gave you my name. How did you know?"
"I have kept tabs on every witch born since I turned 300. It keeps me occupied. I also know why you are here."
"Then can you answer my question?"
"Of course, but you aren't going to like the answer. Many eons ago, when the universe was created and the first beings made, a prophecy was made. If two witches or wizards were to ever fall in love and from that union create a child. The child would either bring eternal peace or eternal destruction. Therefore, the eternal beings forbade the union, and whenever a union was discovered, the witch or mother to be would be destroyed. "
"So you're saying after everything we've been through and after coming back to life, the woman I fell in love with is still in danger and may be killed any day by beings we didn't even know existed."
"Unfortunately, yes. I should know. It's what happened to my Edward."
" Your Edward? You were in love with another witch? Well, wizard?"
" Yes, a very long time ago, though. It was towards the end of the 9th century. When the records of the viking shieldmaiden, Morgana Orikson ended, and my life as Morgan began."
"Please tell us, Ms. Morgan."
" It is a very sad tale, and I have never told another living soul. A love that pure and that strong never truly dies. I think that is why I still live here today. I think they cursed me to never die. Trust me, I've tried many times to join him, but nothing worked. I think I'm meant to be an example."
" It's ok, we will listen."
" It all began in the year 898."
