CHAPTER THREE

The stars aligned the day we met, And not knowing, our spirits were connected. ©Oluwatoyosi. Darasimi’s POV I had gotten used to waking up 7am on Saturdays just like any other day even though I just had to go to work, my body and mind was already programmed that way and in short, I don’t like it. I really wish sometimes, that I could wake up 9am or just sleep in and get my much-needed rest but I guess it doesn’t work that way. Looking to my side, I see my sweet daughter still sleeping soundly and Praise still sleeping comfortably on her bed, so, with a heavy sigh I pick up my bible and choosing to read on David’s life, I have my morning devotion. I am also a very curious person, so when I start to look into something, I make sure to finish it so I don’t keep thinking about it, it was the same thing with the life of David; I mean this guy was just a shepherd boy who had such close relationship with God that I envy it sometimes, I often wondered, how did he and God talk? Did they have like a secret spot where they meet? Why was he chosen amongst all other people in that kingdom to become king? These were the questions I still didn’t have answers for. After an hour and thirty minutes, I finally finish praying and decide to just start my day. Getting up from the bed, I pick up the broom to clean the room. Once I’m done and everything was neat, I enter the bathroom to brush my teeth and have my bath. Stepping out of the bathroom, I see Praise has also woken up and is also having her morning devotion; she looks up at me a bit in greeting. However, my daughter decides to just turn her body to the wall and keep on sleeping. Deciding to just wear something casual but comfortable, I pick out my ash joggers and pair it with a white top. Once I was done, I walked to the kitchen to have breakfast. I decided to just cook yam and eggs for us all. Placing Praise’s food on the table, I eat up and then wake up my daughter to brush her teeth and eat. “Mummy, please let me sleep na” Grace whines while stretching her hands and yawning like she could eat a whole street. “Won’t you follow me to work?” I ask her still dizzy form only fir her to settle her lips in a little pout. “Mummy, please let me stay home today. I have a lot of assignments and I am tired. Please ma” she begs with a pout on her lips. “Let the girl stay at home na, it’s not like she wants to help you do anything. Besides I’ll be at home today.” Praise interrupts my ready to argue thoughts. She is right. “Fine, you can stay home but make sure you finish your assignments today. I’ll be back by 7pm” I say to Grace and she just nods in affirmation and goes back to sleep. My daughter was never one of too many words, she speaks when she there is something to say and although she can be playful, she still knows her boundaries and it scares me a little because I believe at her age, she should be so carefree but I wouldn’t know what people her age do because I never got to experience real childhood. Sighing, I pack up my braids into a ponytail and put on powder and lip gloss. Satisfied with my look, I put on my sandals, pick up my bag containing my phone, charger, my course note, purse pen and earpiece. “Praise, I’m leaving for work” I tell her since she was done praying and now eating “Can’t you just stay home for one Saturday? You don’t usually take breaks except Sundays after church” she said in a flat tone making me chuckle. I know she is always worried about me since she was the only one who knew about my past, she knows that I haven’t had it pretty since secondary school. “Yeah, and that’s break enough.” I reply putting my hand on her head in a petting manner only for it to be smacked off making me laugh out loud. “At this rate you won’t get to enjoy a little bit of life, will you even get a boyfriend?” she says sticking her face close to mine. I put my hand on her face and pull her away from me and run away because she hit the bed. I quickly press a kiss on my baby’s head and leave. “Bye” I shout as I run out of the room. I walk out of the hostel but not before greeting our hostel mates then I take a bike straight to my shop. Getting there, I open up and do the cleaning since my apprentice won’t be coming until 2pm because she attends tutorials on Saturday. Once I’m done cleaning, I start working on the clothes I hadn’t finished yet. I work through the morning and decide to take a break. Getting up from the machine, I flop down on the couch and take out my course note to read. Half way through my reading, I hear a knock and the door opening to reveal a guy around his 20’s probably 24 or 25 and to put it lightly he was handsome. He was tall and fair and also had a nice build, but what got my attention was his hair, it was really black, full and a little bit curly. I knew it was his natural hair because the roots didn’t seem like it was relaxed however, he did look familiar. He came in with another guy that they seemed probably be friends, he didn’t look like his friend in fact, he had a low-cut hair style, a dark face but he was still tall. “Good afternoon” The mysterious guy finally spoke making me stand up from the couch. His voice wasn’t too deep, neither was it light and with the British accent, which made him seem familiar. Where have I heard this voice from? “Good after-noon sir, how can I help you?” I reply walking to where they were. I didn’t do guys clothing so I really don’t know why they were here. “You don’t do men’s wear do you?” well duh, that’s what the sign outside is for. “No, I don’t” I reply nice and short, I didn’t want to say this guy was affecting me but I was feeling kind of comfortable which is not like me, ever since I left my parent’s house, guys have looked itchy to me, they were a set of species I didn’t really associate with except for just being nice but this guy didn’t give me an itchy feeling and it confused the hell out of me more so because his friend did. “Ah, I see. Well then, I would like for you to sow this gown for me” he said showing me a picture of a beautiful off-shoulder gown with delicate stones. This gown was complicated but nothing I haven’t done before although it takes time. I looked at the picture and looked back at the guy “You want me to sow this for you?” I asked because that’s what he said and obviously this was a woman’s dress. He looked at me confused at first and then started laughing. What’s so funny? I looked at his friend who seemed confused like me but a different kind. He looked at him like he was surprised as well. “No. Of course not! I want you to sow it for a lady” ah I see why he’s laughing; I didn’t think my question was that stupid. “Oh right, sorry. Come and have your seat please” I say pointing to the couch while I sat behind my sowing machine. “Do you have the lady’s measurements?” I ask bringing out my pen and measurement book. “Oh, no I don’t. Can’t you just take a look at her and come up with something” Mysterio replied showing me the picture of a beautiful lady probably in her late twenties, probably his girlfriend. Why did that thought bother me? “That won’t do because even though I can do that, it won’t be okay because then I would have always make adjustments if there are errors. So, you will have to get her measurements. What about the material you want to sow?” I ask putting down my pen and measurement book. “This is it” his friend answered giving me a black polybag I didn’t see before. I brought out the material and it was also beautiful but looked very expensive, I know this because I could tell it was original. “Alright, I will give you my number so you can send me the style as well as her measurements when you get it. Is that okay?” I ask standing up to put the material inside the shelf. “Yes, very.” Mysterio said with a little smile on his face. I gave him my number and told him to save it as Darasimi. “Alright, about the price, since it isn’t really a simple classy style and would use another material to be added to it, also because of its delicate stone placing and skirt style. The price is five thousand naira.” I say. Since my shop is mainly by the school, I run my pricing at a varying level. If they are students, then I give a student price and if they are indigenes or older people, I give a certain price. “Okay, I’ll send half of the money when I send the measurements” he says “No problem. Thank you for coming” I reply out of habit smiling a bit and they turn to leave only for Mysterio to look back “By the way, my name is Adeyemi. Thank you for having us and you and your name are beautiful” he goes out leaving me a little flustered. Whenever guys complement me, I never feel a thing, it actually irritates me but why not him? This was getting more confusing but I calm myself down knowing after this work, I won’t see him again, the thought calmed me.
