You will be the death of me

It was a brutal winter that year, I remember it so well; as if it were yesterday. The wind felt bitter on my cheeks as I walked through the town centre, my destination was a place I loved and hated. School. At this point, I was 4 months away from turning 13 and I didn't know it yet but this year was going to be unlike anything I had ever been through before; and even at my young age, I'd been through a lot. My mother was essentially the town w***e and was notorious for being a drug user and an alcoholic. Sadly being that way made her life s**t, and her way of releasing her issues was to release them upon me. My 3 younger siblings evaded her ire, whereas I got the brunt of it. Things at home only got worse once my father got kicked out, he was the one good thing in my life and it seemed all the good was getting sucked away. Yet, this year would be different. This year would be the beginning of my ultimate downfall. The new school term had just begun, and my school day was nothing new. I went to my form room to get signed in, then attended my first two lessons without issue. I waited for those 2 hours to tick on by so I could see my friend, my only saving grace in this awful life. Yet my break time wasn't what I thought it would be. There I first saw a boy who I had never seen before, but I instantly felt drawn to him. He had light brown hair, stunning brown eyes, he was tall and slim but well built. I don't know why but the second I saw him he saw me too. And our eyes locked for what seemed like an eternity. I felt my cheeks go a bright crimson red as I stared into his eyes, I had to force myself to look away and continue putting things away in my locker. I felt my heart drop as I did so. What on Earth had just happened?
