Chapter 6

It was a rainy morning. Miguel was awakened first and Michael was still sleeping. He saw an announcement last night from the school that the Mayor suspended the classes in all levels because of the possible floods. Delighted by the cancellation of classes, he immediately got up from bed and went to the comfort room, doing his morning routines before going down to the kitchen.

It’s already 6 am. His brother is probably on his way home and will arrive later in the afternoon while his mom will be back the next day. He looked at the ref to check on the food he can cook for their breakfast. After closing the door of the fridge he noticed a familiar picture. It was a personalized ref magnet of his grandmother’s garden in the province. A flashback came to his mind that he used to play there with a kid before.

He smiled and prepared all the things he needed for breakfast. After cooking, he went upstairs to wake Michael up.

“Good morning!” Miguel told him happily. MIchael hugged him and kissed him on the cheeks.

“Good morning babe!” Michael replied.

“I already prepared breakfast downstairs. Go fix yourself. Remember, your mom will be back later from her vacation, right?” Miguel asked him. Michael’s mom went on a vacation with her boyfriend and they’re gonna be back later. After his father died, he never saw her mom smile again just like before. That’s why he is happy that her mom is finding her happiness again. He’s not against it, as long as her mom is happy, and they will not forget the memories left by his real father.

“Yeah. Do you want to meet my mom? I already talked to her a lot about you. She’s also excited to see you.” Michael told him.

“Maybe some other time. I’m not ready.” Miguel told him. Michael smiled and went to the comfort room, while Miguel already headed downstairs to get some coffee for them.

Miguel thought of the fact that sooner or later, his mom will find out about him and Michael. He’s wondering what her mom’s reaction would be, or if his mom will not be against their relationship. He’s been with Michael when they were in Grade 12. They’ve been lovers for 10 months already.

A few more minutes have passed when Michael already came from upstairs.

“Wow! You prepared all of these?” he complimented Miguel. The two ate their breakfast and was thinking of the things they can do for the day since the classes are suspended, which made their training to be suspended as well. And if the suspension will not be lifted by tomorrow, the Game 2 of the finals will be moved to another date.

Miguel remembers that he needs to buy something for a cousin who’s gonna be celebrating his birthday next week, so he told Michael that he’ll be at the mall later. Unfortunately, Michael needs to be home that time to assist his mother and soon to be stepfather. So they’ll be on separate ways.

“Hey, look at the post by the Athletics Association. It says that the Awarding of the Best Players for each Position will be held before the Championship match. What do you think?” Miguel told Michael. He looked at the post and smiled.

“Well, we’re not after the individual awards in the first place. We’re after the crown.” He proudly said, which made Miguel smile.

“Of course! Since you already know you’ll be hailed as the Best Middle Blocker, silly!” Miguel happily told him, pinching his nose.

“I’m not expecting that award! But what I know is that we will take the crown. Am I right, my Best Setter?” Michael replied, pinching Miguel’s nose this time.

“Best Setter? That will never happen.” Miguel humbly said.

“You never know, but if it happens, I’ll have the loudest scream and cheer from the crowd.” Michael proudly said.

The two spent their free time mostly on watching movies. They make the most of their time until it is already the time where Michael needs to go home. When Michael left, Miguel went back to his room to prepare the clothes he needed to wear going to the mall to buy something for his cousin. But he waited for his brother first who was on his way home.

“How’s my baby brother?” Janus said while walking towards Miguel. He hugged his younger brother as his boyfriend, Dave, put down their things on the couch.

“I’m totally fine. Michael was with me the whole time. He left almost an hour ago.” Miguel replied.

“Too bad we didn’t meet him. Oh! And by the way, Dave, this is Miguel, my younger brother. Miguel, this is Dave.” Janus introduced his boyfriend to his brother.

The three got to talk about a lot of things and they didn’t notice the time. It’s already past 2 pm and Miguel should go to the mall to buy a gift for his cousin. So he asked his brother to drive the car for him, to which Janus agreed.

At the mall, Miguel went to the department store to buy some clothes, he couldn’t think of other gift to buy for his cousin. Janus and Dave excused themselves to buy something.

“Miss, do you have a large size of this one?” Miguel asked the salesperson. While waiting for her, he decided to look at the shoes at one corner. He accidentally bumped into someone which caused his phone to fall.

“Oh! I’m sorry. I didn’t notice you.” The man said, picking Miguel’s phone.

Miguel looked at the guy he bumped into. He’s a tall, young guy who Miguel thought was the same age as his.

“He looked familiar.” Miguel told himself. The guy handed Miguel’s phone to him and immediately stopped when he saw Miguel’s face.

“Miggy…” the guy said softly, which Miguel wasn’t able to hear. Miguel was about to say something when the salesperson called him. He then apologized to the guy and left.

“Sorry.”
