Elle Mom was always the kind of person you give a hand if needed and Don't get me wrong, I love meeting new people but... I'll take a pass if it was someone who'd been inside you. I flushed with each seductive flick of his eyes from me to Mom. What exactly was he thinking? The way his eyes probed me made me self conscious and I checked what I was actually wearing. Of course! A black babydoll. It occurred to me that I was bare under. Bare and wet of course. Hopefully, not dripping. "You must be the new neighbor. Welcome to the neighborhood." Mom politely welcomed him while I stared in discomfort. It might just be me and my cousin nature but his eyes were fixated on me, Not moving one bit. Blink! "Veronica Rich." My mom continued stretching her hand for a handshake. "Ethan Hale." He said, returning the handshake. My mom then turned to give me that look that threatened my entire existence. She actually believed I was being uncultured. "Aren't you going to say Hi?" She demanded. "There is no need. I know her." Dr. Ethan chipped in just before I could spill. "Oh really? Where?" "I'm a doctor. Her gynecologist." Awkward! This was taking the road to cray-cray. I had to make my getaway. "You're the doctor? What a wonderful surprise." My mom commented, sending me funny glances I couldn't understand. To make matters worse, the wind was playing a wicked joke on my nightdress. It was now or never. I hated going to the store this early but that was the only reasonable excuse. "I have to go," I said, excusing myself. Mom lost it right there but she was a polite being. She would never rant out her feelings outside. "My daughter is a really shy creature." I heard her say as I approached our house. I turned for a split second to see his reaction. He was going to reply but he noticed I was staring at him. His gaze was really a wonder. Just one look at them was a major turn on. Hypnotizing and almost impossible to resist. I gave him a weak smile seeing I was busted and opened the door. I immediately raced for my room. I checked on my phone. A threat from Alex and two missed calls from Bella. I called Bella back. B: what exactly did you tell Alex? He just called me to threaten my life. E: You have to be kidding. I put him off last night. B: Well you better watch out. He sounds like a maniac that would do something dangerous. E: Can we forget about that d**k? I really don't want to ruin my day. B: Did something happen? E: Sounds like you don't want to tell me. Anyways, Is your mom taking you? Maybe I can hit a ride. E: Sorry Bae but I'm going early to work. B: So unlike you. Are you sure nothing happened? E: Nothing serious.   I headed for the window where I could get a comfortable view of the hottie next door. I wasn't going to tell Bella about him, not yet. She would make a fuss about it and especially if Alex was also giving her threats. I didn't want drama, Not yet. B: Hello?? E: I'll see you at work. I heard her giggle over there. She could tell I wasn't being entirely truthful. B: It's about a new fling isn't it? She was so good at guessing what was on my mind. I cut the phone before I could spill my Lil' secret myself. I continued staring at Dr. Ethan. My mom had disappeared and was probably coming upstairs with one of her pep talks. I didn't want to be in a compromising stalker position when she arrived. I threw my phone on the bed and headed for the bathroom. ***  "Hey, Bae" Bella praised seeing me walk through the doors of Jean diner. I blushed knowing why. I had worn my best just in case I bumped into my gynecologist. You know, To make a statement but to be true to myself, my obsession for him was become concerning. ...You look great. Almost like you're going got a date or coming from one." I looked down at the pink cotton gown that emphasized my curves. Was it that obvious? "Laundry day. This was all I could wear." "You suck at hiding the truth. Won't you at least give me a hint?" Bella had been my best friend since childhood. She was bullied for being black and me, for being gay. It was rough but we scaled through it together. We've been inseparable since then. It would hurt her if I didn't tell her. "Ok... But don't you think we should get cooking?" Just then, A customer walked in. A woman in her middle forties and to be Frank, She looked like s**t. "Hamburgers." She croaked, barely audible. "The diner's closes. If you can come back... Let's say forty minutes later. We'd be open." "God!" The woman groaned in frustration, "I'm really starving. I would appreciate it if you could work up something for me." Bella sighed. I knew how difficult it was for her to say no. I was always the naysayer but I'm this case, I could tell this woman really needed the food, No matter how unhealthy it was going to be. Bella, seeing I said nothing said, "Ok. Five minutes." She then literally dragged me along to the kitchen. "So who's your new interest?" Bella asked whilst washing her hands. "What makes you think that's going on?" I teased, putting on an apron. "As if? Just spill before this gets ugly." "I'm so scared," I said making a face. We had a good laugh about it. "But seriously, What are you going to do about Alex?" "Just when I was about you tell you about Ethan." "So that's his name and what did you expect me to say? He's been sending lame threats since yester..." "Just ignore them." I put in. Bella's thick brows furrowed. "Ignoring things like that is very dangerous. I suggest we report him and get a restraining order. Who knows what he can do?" "I'm not afraid of him," I reassured Belle. She nodded her head in disbelief. I could almost see her reimagining those moments I shrieked when cockroaches came at me. "So let's forget Alex. Tell me about Ethan." I paused. What was there to say exactly? All I knew about him was his name, where he lived and... Nothing. "I just met him. What do you expect me to say about him?" I retorted. "Hmm... Someone is crushing hard." Bella teased. He was still an illusion to me. Yet, his sudden presence in my life had gotten me out of a toxic relationship. He was a knight and I so wanted to know more about him. Yeah, The perfect excuse to justify your infatuation. It was but who could I blame? I wanted us to get closer, To know each other more but that would take a miracle for that to happen and miracles... Well... are miracles. *** Working at the diner was exhausting enough. Walking home was worse and I was numb by the time I got home. All I need right now was a cold shower. I stripped down and step slowly into the tub, turning the water on high and letting it beat my tired skin. I closed my eyes to the water as the cold soaked into my skin. It was just perfect. Then I heard something. Goosebumps immediately found way unto my skin and the cold water got uncomfortable. I blinked my eyes open and tried to find where the strange hissing sound was coming from. My search led me to the valve which was hissing violently as water rushed out of it. The tub was now half full so I decided to turn it off.  As I turned the valve, my eyes caught a shiny rod. Rods didn't move so I gasped when the copper rod slithered at me. I ran a hand over my face to help with my puffed up eyeballs. I couldn't see clearly. The moment my eyes cleared, It dawned to me it wasn't a rod. It was never a rod. It was a snake, copper brown. Species? I didn't give a f**k. All I wanted right now was to run. In all good books I've read about surviving or escaping snake attacks, The number one rule was to keep calm and I broke that rule. "Help!" I screamed with every bit of energy left in me, my legs failing as I headed for the door. It happened so fast, I couldn't tell if it was real or not. I missed a footing on the slippery ceramic tiles and slumped. My head headed back into the bathtub. The water splashed out in generous quantity as my head up to my waist hit the water. Then my brain felt scrambled, The water turned wine, My sight blurred and darkness followed.
