CORDELIA’S POV
I tried to push the Alpha’s indignant behavior away from my mind. The other pack members said he was extremely nice. So why was I different? His grandfather wasn’t able to give me any explanation as well. After feeding him my special syrup, I headed out of the room.
“She’s my mate,” I heard him tell his younger brother, Dante.
I stopped in my tracks. I was still trying to ignore his scent and the way my wolf squirmed at the sight of him. I couldn’t be his mate. It wasn’t possible. The whole pack knew that he had just one chance left. Was he going to use it on me?
“So what are you going to do?” Dante asked him. I felt guilty standing and eavesdropping on their conversation.
“Everything will be made clear to the whole pack during the party this evening.”
I took a deep breath and followed the back door out of the palace. My mother was preparing some food and my brother was bouncing his ball off the walls by the time I came home.
“Have you finished taking care of the Gamma?” she asked and I nodded, barely looking at her.
“I would still need to go there and prepare him for the party this evening.” She nodded too, before pointing at some pieces of slips of fancy papers on the table. I walked over and picked it up, running my hands through the designs.
“We have been invited for the party that is to take place this evening,” she said, making me gasp.
“Why? Aren’t we just servants? I don’t think they invited anyone else.”
“Well, you have been taking care of the Gamma properly. The guards said the Alpha sent it himself. We have to pick a dress for you too.”
I wasn’t able to say anything. It was the first time that she was being nice after dad died. Especially since she thinks I contributed to his death. I had spent seven years of my life being blamed for the death of my father.
Before I could even say anything else, she dragged me upstairs and picked out a row of pretty dresses that I had never seen before.
“They were gifted to me by your father,” she said, running her hand through the material.
“Andrew is my mate!” I finally blurted, making her stop midsentence. She burst out laughing immediately.
“An Omega like you? Have you forgotten we are slaves? You could never be his mate!”
I bit my lip and bent my head in shame. I couldn’t even tell her how I woke up this morning. It would make me seem even more useless and shameless than she already thinks I am.
I took the dress from her and didn’t say anything else until the evening came. I hid from everyone’s sight as the love bites on my skin were extremely evident at that point. They had only started to fade a bit. The low cut dress that my mom gave me made things even worse. I still shuddered at the thought of that man’s lips against my skin. Nobody had come to criticize me yet.
“You’re here,” Andrew’s grandfather, Kyros, smiled at me. I smiled back, helping him get into the necessary clothes that he needed to wear. I was to stand beside him all evening, taking him around. So my invite was extremely useless.
“You’re destined for greatness, dear,” he said, patting my head like some sort of comfort.
I helped him get up, and go downstairs. I placed him in the chair that was specially designed for him. A few people from other packs had come too. The Alpha of Twilight pack was seen, as the other Omegas of the pack tried to make themselves relevant.
There was music, food, and drinks. I found myself craning my neck, looking for Andrew or Dante. After sometime, they both came downstairs. Andrew was putting on a black suit with a crispy white shirt inside. He had the top button open that made him look sexy in a way. Dante looked like the cheaper version, but he had a smile on his face like he couldn’t even care less.
Once again, my wolf was out of control. She was restless at the sight of him. As his scent hit my nose, I couldn’t help but think… was he…
I spotted my mother and my brother in a distance. They were the only slaves that were present in the palace. The story of their invite was just too true to believe.
The Alpha’s mom walked in a few moments later too, with her elegant dress and small tiara at the top of her head. All the top ranking wolves had gone to greet her. I helped Kyros answer greeting too. He wasn’t even in the mood to look at too many people.
I was lost in my thoughts when the clinking of glass brought me back to reality. I looked up and saw Andrew standing at the middle of the crowd as all eyes were fixed on him.
“We all know why this party is being held,” he started, in his rich voice. “to celebrate the beginning of a perfect deal between Twilight pack and our pack, Black Pearl. But there is another reason why I will be making another announcement.”
There were low grumbles among the guests, as they wondered what other announcement he was about to make.
“I would like to present someone to everybody present at this party.” His eyes found me in the crowd and he walked over in only two long strides, taking my hands in his in a violent way, before dragging me to where everybody was standing.
“This is Cordelia Jorgenson,” he said in an even more violent tone. “The daughter of the man who had killed my father.”
I looked up at him immediately, matching the gasps of the crowd.
What did he mean?
I knew about the story of my father’s death and as far as I knew, he was trying to protect the pack. He died being a good man.
“But I’m your mate!” I blurted, and the crowd gasped again. His eyebrows perked up immediately. I was sure that he heard the stories that Daniel told about my inability to know my mate.
Andrew looked away and by the time he looked again. His eyes were blazing.
“I, Andrew Escobar, Alpha of Black Pearl pack, rejects you, Cordelia Jorgenson t
o be my mate and Luna of the pack.”
