Chapter Five

ANDREW’S POV Five years later “Your grandfather is getting worse,” Adrian said, a small smile playing on his lips. Adrian was the one person that I could trust and talk to. I tried not to punch him. He was indirectly telling me that Cordelia’s absence from the palace was killing my grandfather and there was nothing I could do about it. “There’s nothing I can do about it,” I said, looking away immediately. “You don’t want to do anything about it. He isn’t taking his pills from anybody else. Even he knows the truth even if he's not saying it. People will start disrespecting you soon enough. Their Alpha isn’t married.” There was Ariana that kept pushing herself against me. There was no way I was even going to consider things between the both of us. “Alpha,” Dante called out behind me. I turned back immediately, worsening the pain in my chest. I had kept the pain to myself but I feared that they were going to find out soon enough. I was long due a visit to the doctor. “Are you okay?” Adrian asked without making any attempt to touch me. “All the color just drained from your face.” Before I could even answer him, Dante had already jogged to where we were. “What is it?” I managed to ask him. “The Twilight group are forming some kind of opposition towards us. I frowned immediately. They were breaching the contract. “Who did you get this news from?” I asked him. “One of my trusted friends,” he answered. I didn’t say anything else. The Omegas were known to stir trouble from within, spreading false news. “We aren’t going to attack first,” I said in a clipped tone. Dante nodded, understanding my reasons. He managed to distract me, making me go through the financial records of our company for the past month. As I went through the figures, I saw the numbers blur in front of my eyes. The pain in my chest was becoming worse. My hands flew there immediately, trying to subdue the pain. It only became worse. “Are you alright?” Dante asked. Even his voice sounded muffled. The next thing I saw was darkness as I slipped off the chair. I woke up a few hours later in the hospital bed. Dante was right beside me and my mother was crying her eyes out. “He’s awake,” Dante said as I flexed my fingers. “What is wrong with you?” my mother said, wiping her nose. “You think you can go through things without letting any of us know?” Before I could even say anything, the doctor walked right in with a frown on her face. My mother rushed to her side. “What is wrong with him? Surely your machines detected something.” The doctor frowned even more with a small shake of her head. “We have detected what the issue is. But I’m afraid, there is no medical cure yet. And if it is not treated soon, the Alpha will be dead in a few months.” I couldn’t help but curl my hands into fists and close my eyes. “What do you mean you don’t have the right medication?” my mom asked, screaming at the top of her lungs. “There has only been one person that has been able to treat this issue,” the doctor said after much thought. “She was able to use herbs and nobody has been able to take note of the herbs yet. The hand that made them matters too.” “And who is this girl? Why haven’t you called her here yet?” “The Alpha had ousted her from the pack,” the doctor said with a neutral face. *** CORDELIA’S POV Dorian was running around the palace again. “You can't catch me!” he screamed in his tiny voice. I was exhausted playing hide and seek with him but he was my tiny angel. Mine. I finally caught him, and ruffled his dark curly hair even though he didn’t like it. I inhaled the smell of him and calmed down. He was the only one that managed to stress me in the palace. “The both of you haven’t even had breakfast and you’re already playing,” Lisa teased as she descended the stairs. “I wonder how you manage to keep up with him.” I just smile as we approach the dining table. Her hair had started graying at the temples. Her first child and the future Alpha, Elvis descended the stairs too. He was two years older than me. He winked as he walked past me and took his seat. I managed not to blush. Lisa had been trying to push us together and it felt like he wanted it too. He didn’t mind that I had a five year old child. Dorian finally sat down to have his breakfast. Just then, the palace doors swung open. “There are some guards from another pack looking for Miss Cordelia.” “Who are they?” Lisa asked immediately, practically jumping out of her seat. I stood up slowly too. “They said they are from Black Pearl pack,” the guards said once more. As they were talking, the two men that ousted me from the pack were at the door. “Miss Lisa, you are required to come with us. The pack needs you.” I frowned immediately. There was no way the pack needed me. I was just an Omega when I left. What did they need me for now? “You aren’t going with them,” Elvis said, as he stood beside me. I didn’t even know when he got to my side. I placed my hands protectively over Dorian’s shoulders. I didn’t want him to know what was going on. He already knew everyone at Green Embers pack as his relatives. “That should be her decision to make,” Lisa said, mind linking the both of us. Elvis looked away, obviously angry. “Why am I needed at the palace?” I asked the mild one. “The Alpha needs you.” All the anger from five years ago when they ousted me came flooding back. I managed to swallow it down. “And how is the Gamma?” I asked. “Dying,” the harsh guard answered at once. “I’ll go with them,” I said. With one nod of her head, Lisa ordered the helps to pack mine and Dorian’s things. “If you need anything. You should know that you are always welcome here.” I nodded at her. “You will finally be heading back to the palace,” the mild guard said, mind linking me. “This is the chance to prove yourself and take your revenge.
