I get out of the car, still tipsy from the happiness of a few moments of togetherness with the girls. It was truly a nice decision to accept Ash's invitation, no matter how impromptu it was.
I climbed the steps of the porch, feeling a flutter of happiness in my chest as I walked through the main doors and stepped into the foyer before striding into the living room, where I spotted Mom sitting on the sofa, flipping through pages of a fashion magazine.
I stopped in my tracks, surprised.
"Mom?" I call out to her while taking a step forward.
She looked up from her magazine and smiled, "Honey. How was the party?" She asked, snapping me out of my surprise.
"It was fun. I felt good. Going out with the girls after a long time, but why aren't you asleep? Is Dad not home yet?" I
