Chapter 10

I don't know how I made it back to my desk that day or how I managed to work through the day like nothing had happened. As the day was ending, Xavier walked out of his office. I froze as he approached. He leaned against my desk as I looked up at him. "Yes sir?" I asked as I tried to pretend nothing had happened between us. He seemed to think about what he wanted to say for a minute. "I am gonna be out of the office tomorrow. So I won't see you for a few days." I felt a small sense of relief. I had a couple of days off coming up. He frowned softly for a moment and then leaned closer to me. "On your next day of work, I want you to wear a skirt." "Sir I don't-" "Stop talking." He cut me off with a harsh command. My mouth shut on its own. He smirked softly and reached out. He took hold of my chin lightly. "What a wonderful thing I have found in you Kifa." He smiled almost lovingly for a moment. "You'll wear the skirt for me as instructed." It wasn't a question but he waited for an answer. Would it kill me to do it once? He had already seen me in a skirt after all. He had seen far more of me too. I nodded softly and he grinned. He pushed off my desk and left without another word. It felt almost good that he treated me coldly after what had happened earlier. I sighed and got back to work. The days passed in a sort of blur and as I was getting ready for work again I froze as I reached for my pants. How would I explain it if I wore a skirt today? I grabbed my pants with a frown. They were the last clean ones. Tomorrow is laundry day. I put them on and went to do my makeup. With a harsh sigh and a cringe, I spilled makeup on them. I took them off and changed into a skirt. As Atticus came to say goodbye, as he left first he saw the skirt and furrowed his brows. "Special day?" He asked and I shook my head as I currently had a pin in my mouth. I put the pin in and gestured to the laundry basket behind the door. "More like bad luck and terrible waste." He looked at the pants and cringed slightly at the makeup stain. "I don't have time to clean it so I have to go in a skirt today. It's professional, right?" I asked as I twirled for him. He smiled at me. "It's perfectly fine babe. I'll get started on the laundry when I get home to try and save your pants." He said as he walked over and gave me a quick kiss. "Thanks. You're the best." I felt guilt settle in my stomach at my lie. Yet it was just a skirt for one day. It would be fine. I had to change my top since it was no longer going to match the pants. I threw on a simple blouse that matched and grabbed my bag. On my drive, I realized that my top was slightly low and I groaned. It was too late to go back or I would be late. I was never late. Instead, I went ahead and hoped I wouldn't see many people today. As I rode the elevator up I felt my heart hammering in my chest. Why was I nervous? I made my way to my desk and found a note on it. Come to my office right away. I sighed and walked over to the door. I knocked hard so he could hear me through the heavy wood. I heard the intercom buzz as my cue to enter. As I walked up to his desk, his eyes traveled over me. His stare was extra intense today. I stopped in my usual place and he gestured to the spot next to him. I hesitated only a moment before I walked over. As I stood, his eyes swept me up and down for a moment. "Spin." He said simply. It wasn't a command, but with a soft sigh, I complied. Better to get it over with. I turned slowly and when my back was to him, I felt his hands grab my waist. I let out a squeak of surprise as he pulled me back into his lap. I flailed for a moment and then tried to get up. He reached out and grabbed my wrists and pulled them behind my back, making that much harder. "Sir, please," I said in a desperate hope that he would let me go. "Kifa." He spoke into my ear and I felt a shudder down my back. "I have waited long enough. I held myself back last time. This time I won't be denied." I didn't understand what he meant. Last time? When I was on his desk? That was him holding back? From what? Before I could panic, there was a hard knock on the office door. We both flinched sharply. He let me go and I stood quickly. "Find out who it is and send them away." I walked to the door and when I opened it my eyes went wide. "Sir, I can't send them away," I said as I turned back and he glared harshly. Before he could get mad, I opened the door and his eyes went wide too. On the other side stood the CEO of the company Xavier was currently trying to partner with. I saw the anger flash across his face for a moment before he stood. "Yes, well, this is different. You may go." He said, dismissing me as he approached the older man. "Kifahari." I looked back at Xavier as he spoke my name. "We will continue our discussion tomorrow," he said ominously. They shook hands as I escaped the room quickly. I sighed in relief. It was a tactic of that man to show up unannounced to catch people off guard. He wouldn't make Xavier stumble, but he had saved me for sure. After he finally left, Xavier was wrapped up in meetings for the rest of the day. Even as I left for the day, he was in a late meeting. I left a message on the intercom that I was leaving as I was supposed to do and went home. When I got home, Atticus had indeed started the laundry. When he saw my top he laughed. He knew exactly what I had done and knew I was embarrassed about it. We spent some time cuddling and watching a movie as we ate dinner. It was always nice to just be together after a long day at work for us both. I had no clue what Xavier was planning for tomorrow. I didn't give his words any thought. I should have.
