An escape

KARENSA I should have known that nothing good comes out of the mouth of the beast. Since that night he falsely rejected me, he had me chained in his room, only letting me move around thrice a day. But that was the least of my problems. It was Gervais. If I thought he was a monster before this I had nothing else to compare to him at the moment. Not only was I confined to his bed, but he forced me to watch him as he f***s different women. The pain that went through my heart each time he brings those whores home felt like I was walking on burning coals. He knew it was hurting me, but he loved it, loved to see me cry —shedding tears for the monster. Yet, they couldn't compare to what he does during my heat period. He fills the entire room with his pheromones, worsening my heat and my need to have him close. He never sends a soothing one, constantly trying to get me mad with pain. After he does that, he will sit on the only sofa in his room and watch me. Laughing when the pain becomes too much for me to bear. He would leave after that, and it would force me to endure three days without him. The last heat I had nearly killed me. It was at that moment that I felt my wolf. Though her warmth was all I felt, she was able to help me through the period. Gervais, being the devil he was, was pleased when he returned to see me on the bed, almost lifeless. Though I was awake, I was too weak to lift a limb, and that was because no one fed me throughout the three days I was in heat. “How do you like your new treatment, Omega?” He sneered as he rested on the sofa opposite me. I slowly raised my head to look at him, noting how well-dressed he was. He tied his hair up in a neat man bun, accentuating the curves of his face. He looked like an angel while he was in the devil in disguise. I didn't say a word as he sat up from the sofa he was sitting on and approached me. “Tonight is my engagement ceremony with Lya. I will have a maid come up to dress you.” He leaned down and whispered, “It would be thrilling to see your face as you watch another woman get engaged to your mate.” With a dark, throaty laugh that seemed to reverberate through his body, he left the room, gently closing the door behind him. The moment the door clicked shut behind him, I slowly sat up on the bed. My eyes had long dried from the tears I shed these last three days, and I wasn't ready to do that. I won't let him see how much his words affected me. The maid he spoke about came in a few minutes later. Though she tried not to look at me, I could see the pity in those eyes of hers. She unlocked the chains without a word and offered me some bread, which I greedily took. I hurriedly ate it and wolfed it down with the bottle of water she offered. “Thank you,” I murmured, but it was loud enough for her to hear. She nodded but still didn't say a word as she went about getting things ready. She was the only maid I saw who didn't treat me like I was a freak. I was almost sorry for what I planned to do to her. But I've got no choice. There was no way I could watch Gervais get married to that b***h, knowing my time with them was about to get bloody. The maid had her back to me when I slowly got up. I took the second bottle of water — she brought two, but I only drank one — and strode towards her. Before she knew what was happening, I hit her hard on the head, and she fell to the ground instantly. I didn't stop to think of how possible it was that a bottle of water could render a Beta unconscious. I grabbed the Black cloak she brought — I don't even know why she got it — and dashed out. Luckily, there were no guards outside. I covered my entire body with the cloak as I hastened down the hall. Oddly enough, no one stopped me. I guessed they were just too busy preparing for the grand engagement to pay any heed to a maid. I successfully left the property and headed south. From my memories, I recalled Uncle Dimitrios boasting about how life was in the South. My kind uncle seemed like the best bet. Halfway down the Great Forest, I heard sounds. I froze for a moment before I took off. I should have known my escape was too smooth to be true. This might have been a plan by Gervais, to humiliate me — to prove that he would always own me. With the last strength I could muster, I continued down the forest, jumping over fallen trees and narrowly escaping getting hit by the branches. The sounds of footsteps became louder as I ran. It was obvious that I was being chased. I panted, throwing the cloak away when it got burdensome to take it with me. “Hey!” I heard a call from behind me, but I didn't stop. The farther I ran, the more it became prominent that the men chasing me weren't packed. None of them screamed my name. They would have called — I tripped on a stone and fell, hitting the back of my head on yet another stone. I heard a yell before a voice spoke up. “Why did you use your god-damned magic on her?!” I wanted to raise my head at the sound of the unfamiliar gruff voice but wasn't able to lift my head. I instantly lost consciousness, knowing my death was near.
