GERVAIS
I narrowed my eyes at Lya, who had been sticking close to me since I stepped into the door. Oddly enough, being with her these days angered me. The sight of her alone made me want to rip her intestines out, but I quelled the urge.
I was about to get engaged to her. After this, I will pump her up with my pups. Those were the terms of our agreement. I was only getting engaged to her, so my kids wouldn't be considered bastards.
'What of Karensa?' Vais, my wolf asked.
Since the time we discovered she was my mate, he had been restlessly trying to get me closer to her. But I ignored him.
I couldn't tell why I didn't just reject her or even kill her. I know I once spoke of this being a punishment for everything her mother put me through. But I felt like that wasn't the reason. I hated her, but I was unable to identify the reasons aside from her being an Omega. I knew she was one from the time I differentiated.
I just hate the smell of Omegas because they reminded me of my wet nurse when I was a kid.
“Gervy, what's wrong? Why do you look so lost in thoughts? Couldn't wait to marry me?” She chuckled, annoying me with the sound.
“Get off me!” I slapped her hand off. It felt like different insects were crawling on my body. This started a week ago when I slept with the last w***e. That was why I didn't bother taking any of them to bed.
Not only was I repulsed by their scents, but having them close to me made me want to rip their heads off their neck and feed their bodies to sharks.
“What's wrong?” She widened her eyes in shock, taking a step back with her eyes narrowed squarely at me.
“Don't come close to me!” I matched over to the nearest sofa and sat on it, cradling my head on my right hand. A sigh left my lips. I was confused about my behaviour.
“Gervy? Are you still angry with me for —”'
“Let's break up.”
“What?”
“You heard me right, Lya. Let's break up.” I scowled when she tried to walk towards me.
“You don't know what you are saying, Gervais! Why will you break up with me an hour before our engagement party? Is this how you want to mock me?!” she yelled as tears streamed down her face, making her look rather ugly.
As my eyes took her in, I wondered what I saw in her when I asked her to be my girlfriend. There was nothing attractive about her.
“I'm not concerned about that. You should be happy I broke up with you secretly instead of in from of the others. Would you have loved that?”
“Please, Gervy.” She knelt and joined her palms in a plea. “If I have offended you, I apologize. Please don't do this to me!” She continued to cry.
“It's over, Lya. Take your f*****g self out of my property! I don't wish to see you!” I crossed my right leg over my left, relaxing on the couch.
Suddenly, a sense of unease took over. I gasped when a searing pain went through me. It was intense. Like someone whose soul was forcefully being ripped from their chest.
“Gervy —”
A knock on the door interrupted her. The knock came true before the person opened the door and ran in.
“My Alpha!” He immediately knelt and bared his neck in submission.
“What's wrong?” I uncrossed my legs. “Why do you look like one who saw a ghost?”
“My Alpha, we… we… I… She… We…. Your …”
“What the freaking f**k are you stammering for?!” I growled, rising to my feet, grateful the pain had stopped.
The two people in the room yelped in fear, but I paid them no heed.
“My Alpha, your stepsister is missing!”
There was a prolonged silence as his words sank in.
“What??”
Out of all the things I expected to happen, it wasn't this. Not Karensa missing.
“The maid was found unconscious in the room and —”
“Alert the guards! Double the patrols. She mustn't be allowed to leave the pack! We need to get to her. She mustn't have gone far.”
I couldn't understand the feelings of my heart. I had never been this anxious in my life. Not even when I heard about my father's demise.
“Yes, my Alpha!” He bowed before he hastened out of the room.
Worried, I took my coat and tried to leave, but Lya stopped me. She stood in my way and spread her arms.
“What the hell do you think you are doing?!” I growled at her, narrowing my eyes to slits.
“Where are you going? Don't tell me you are going out there to look for that b***h?! She deserves to be out in the wild. Who knows, the hybrids might get their hands on her and —”
“Get the f**k out of my way!” I pushed her and hastened out of the room despite her calls.
My heart hasn't stopped beating. It was as if the organ were determined never to cease. But my focus wasn't on it. It was on finding Karensa.
When I get my hands on her, I will make her regret ever running away from my room. I will have her chained to my bed until she understands I will never let her go. I don't like it when my toys get lost.
'Would you stop thinking about that and concentrate on finding your mate?' Vais growled at me.
'Of course, I'm looking for her!' I yelled back, hastening towards the stairs. Thankfully, none of the people I invited to the party were there.
The moment I stepped foot outside the building, three of my Betas ran towards me. They knelt when they got to where I was, with their heads bowed.
“Have you found her yet?” I glared down at them, folding my arms.
There was a prolonged silence between us before they nodded.
“Alpha, she… She… According to the guards by the South side, a woman covered in a black cloak was last seen going towards the dark lands,” one of them said.
“Fuck.”
Not the dark lands.
