Blurb

James never asked to be cursed with the blood of a wolf, but the full moon has bound him to a beast he cannot control. Haunted by his love for Emily, who has mysteriously vanished, James embarks on a desperate search through the shadows of a world filled with dark creatures—vampires, witches, and ancient secrets lurking in every corner.

As the line between man and monster blurs, James must battle his inner wolf, powerful enemies, and time itself to save Emily from a fate worse than death. But as the moon rises and his transformation becomes inevitable, one question haunts him: Will he save her in time, or will the beast inside destroy everything he loves?

In a world where danger hides behind every face and trust is a luxury, James will learn that sometimes the greatest enemy is the darkness within.

Prologue: Awakening of the Wolf
The night was thick with darkness, and the cold wind howled as the full moon hung high in the sky, its silver light spilling onto an abandoned factory. Eerie shadows cast themselves upon the silent surroundings, amplifying the sense of isolation. James stood in the darkened corners of the building, his breath heavy and ragged, chest heaving with the effort of keeping control. Every nerve in his body felt like a taut string ready to snap, his heightened senses sharpening with the ascent of the full moon. Deep within him, the beast was stirring. He had lost count of how many times he had experienced this — the unstoppable surge of power accompanied by excruciating pain. Every time the moonlight touched his skin, he could feel the beast inside him struggling, clawing its way toward freedom. Tonight, just like many nights before, he had to find a way to suppress it. But, deep down, he knew this time was different. Tonight, it felt stronger, angrier, harder to restrain. With every passing second, his bones began to ache, a familiar and growing pain. The transformation was starting, slow but inevitable. James knew he didn’t have much time left before the wolf inside him would break free. The pull of the full moon was irresistible, drawing the beast closer to the surface. He had to find Emily before it was too late, before the monster within him took over completely. Emily—his love, his everything—had been missing for days. Since the moment she disappeared, he had been consumed by panic and guilt. Her voice, her laughter, her very presence haunted his thoughts, filling his mind with images of her, lost and in danger. This was no longer just another mission; it was his personal salvation. Finding Emily was the only goal that mattered now, the last thing tethering his sanity in place, preventing him from slipping into the abyss. Suddenly, the air around him changed, thickening with a foul, rancid odor—familiar and nauseating. His muscles tensed instantly as recognition hit him: vampires. They had been following him, lurking in the shadows, waiting for him to lose control. Their presence here was a dangerous complication. His wolf side might overpower him before he could accomplish anything if they forced a confrontation. From deep within the factory, a faint sound echoed—a shuffle, too quiet for normal ears to detect, but James was anything but normal. His entire body went rigid. His heightened senses caught the noise immediately, along with the subtle shifts in the air that signaled something was coming. Instinctively, James crouched low, eyes scanning the darkness as he strained to listen more closely. The moonlight, so unforgiving in its silver brilliance, seemed to magnify everything. His hearing sharpened even further, his sense of smell heightened to the point where he could distinguish the faintest trace of blood lingering in the air. "Emily..." he whispered, the word escaping his lips like a desperate prayer, the weight of his pain and longing lacing every syllable. He had to be quick. Every moment counted now. Time was running out, and with each second, the transformation crept closer. The wild beast within him roared, clawing at his soul, hungry for release. The pain in his bones worsened, spreading to his joints and muscles, making it harder for him to stay on his feet. Every nerve in his body screamed with the effort of holding back the inevitable. As his senses stretched out into the factory, James detected something else—someone else. A heartbeat. No, several. His nostrils flared as the foul stench of vampires grew stronger. They were nearby, watching, waiting. They could sense his struggle, and they were ready to exploit his moment of weakness. Their cold, calculating minds would use Emily, or whatever information they had about her, as a weapon to push him over the edge. He clenched his fists, digging his nails into his palms until blood welled up from the crescent-shaped wounds. He needed to focus, to stay in control, at least until he found her. But it was then that the beast inside him surged forward, crashing against the walls of his willpower. His bones cracked audibly, sending waves of agony through his limbs as the transformation began in earnest. He dropped to his knees, clutching his head, his breath now coming in short, shallow gasps. The pain was unbearable, but it was nothing compared to the fear that gripped his heart—the fear that he would lose himself entirely, that the wolf would consume him. His skin felt like it was on fire as his body contorted, muscles shifting under the surface as the wolf clawed its way out. His vision blurred, and for a moment, all he could hear was the sound of his own heartbeat pounding in his ears, drowning out everything else. And then, through the haze of pain and impending transformation, he smelled something else—something familiar, something that pierced through the fog of his suffering and made his heart race for a completely different reason. Emily’s scent. It was faint, almost imperceptible, but it was her. He knew that smell, the soft hint of lavender mixed with the natural sweetness of her skin. James’s heart leaped in his chest. She was here. She had to be. Summoning every ounce of willpower left in him, James forced himself to his feet. His body protested, wracked with spasms as the wolf continued its assault, but he couldn’t stop now. He couldn’t afford to give in, not when she was so close. His claws extended from his fingertips, his teeth elongated into sharp points, but he fought the changes with everything he had. He couldn’t become the beast. Not yet. With a sudden burst of energy, James pushed himself toward the source of her scent, his eyes blazing with determination even as the wolf howled inside him, demanding to be set free. He stumbled forward, his vision swimming, his body shaking from the strain of holding the transformation at bay. The factory loomed before him, its dark hallways stretching endlessly, as if mocking his desperation. As he neared the entrance to one of the corridors, a figure stepped out of the shadows. Tall, pale, and utterly cold, the figure’s eyes gleamed in the moonlight with a cruel, almost amused glint. "James," the voice was low, serpentine, full of malice. James froze. He knew that voice too well. It belonged to the vampire lord, the very creature responsible for Emily’s disappearance. The leader of the vampires, the one who had orchestrated this nightmare. "You shouldn’t have come," the vampire lord hissed, stepping closer, his long black coat trailing behind him like a shadow. "But since you're here, let’s see how much longer you can hold out before the wolf devours you." The vampire’s smirk widened as James’s body trembled, the internal struggle visible on his face. His eyes flickered between their usual dark brown and the burning amber of the wolf, a clear sign that he was losing the fight. James’s voice was a low, guttural growl, barely human. "Where is she? Tell me where Emily is!" The vampire lord laughed softly, the sound like ice grating against stone. "Emily... ah, yes. She’s close, James. But will you reach her in time? Or will the beast take you first?" James’s control slipped further, his muscles spasming violently as the wolf surged forward. He could feel his bones shifting, his spine lengthening, his fingers turning into deadly claws. The vampire was right. He was running out of time. Soon, there would be nothing left of the man Emily loved—only the savage beast that lived inside him. And yet, even as the pain threatened to overwhelm him, even as the wolf howled in his mind, one thing remained clear. He had to find her. He had to save her, no matter what it cost him. "Emily..." he whispered again, his voice trembling with desperation. Just as the transformation seemed inevitable, as the wolf prepared to tear its way out of him, a sudden force slammed into James from behind, knocking him to the ground. The impact jarred his senses, momentarily halting the transformation. James gasped for air, struggling to regain control. His vision blurred as he lay on the cold, hard ground, but through the fog, he heard a voice—one that was even more familiar than the vampire lord’s. "James..."
