EPISODE 2:
Part I: Shadows in the Quiet Classroom
The school corridors were still quiet when Amara arrived. The morning mist clung to the windows.
Her sneakers made a squeaking sound on the clean floors. Amara liked getting to school. It was her time to think before the noise started.
Today her mind was stuck on what happened the day before.
The headmistress had announced the exam results over the loudspeaker.
Everyone cheered. Her friends were happy for her.. Victor just got up and left without saying a word.
Amara got to her desk. Stopped.
There was a piece of paper on her desk. It was folded in half. She looked around the room.
It was empty. The chalkboard was clean. The only sound was the clock ticking on the wall.
She picked up the paper.
Unfolded it. It said "Meet me at the school library after classes." There was no name or reason.
Amara thought about who could have written it. "Victor?" she said to herself.
The note stayed in her notebook all day.
She kept looking at the clock. She could not focus on her classes.
Part II: Among the Stacks
When the final bell rang, Amara quickly picked up her things. Went to the library.
The library was quiet and comfortable. It smelled like books and paper.
Amara walked down the aisle.
Her footsteps were quiet on the carpet.
She turned into the science section.
The sunlight came through the colored windows. Made patterns on the floor.
Victor was standing near the shelf. He was looking at a book. "You sent the note?" Amara asked. Victor closed the book. Turned around. "Yes " he said.
Amara leaned against the bookcase.
"What is this about Victor?
You did not say anything yesterday." Victor looked down.
Took a deep breath. "I want to challenge you " he said.
Amara was surprised. "A challenge?
Is this about the exam scores?" Victor said it was not about that. He wanted them to work together for the National Young Innovators Challenge.
Part III: The Synergy of Minds
Amara and Victor started working.
They sat at a table in the library.
They spread out papers and books. They. Drew diagrams.
Amara was good at theory and research.
Victor was good at building things and designing. They worked well together.
They made a table to show their strengths.

Victor showed Amara a diagram. "Look at this " he said. "Your math is good.
We need to make it work in real life." Amara looked at the diagram. She understood what Victor meant.
Part IV: The Unexpected Curveball
Amara and Victor worked together every day. They solved problems.
Built things. They became friends.
One day their teacher, Mrs. Vance came into the lab with a box. "I have some news " she said.
"The National Young Innovators Challenge is going to be different this year.
There will be a Surprise Stage."
The students were surprised. "What does that mean?" someone asked. Mrs. Vance said they would get a problem and some materials.
They would have to solve the problem and build something in six hours.
The students were quiet. They did not know how to prepare for something they did not know about.
Part V: The Shadow of St. Jude’s
That evening Amara was, in her room.
She was staring at a piece of paper. She was thinking about the Surprise Stage.
How could they prepare for something they did not know about?
Her phone buzzed. It was Victor. "Meet me at the lab tomorrow at 7:00 AM " he said. "I have an idea."
Amara smiled. She felt better. She typed a reply. "I will be there."
She put down her phone. Looked out the window. The street was quiet.
What neither Amara nor Victor knew was that twenty miles away at St. Judes Academy, which was the champion of the competition for four years in a row a team of four students was already working in a really cool laboratory that had a lot of money put into it by technology companies.
St. Judes Academy had spent three years making a special system to solve physical problems really fast.
The teachers who helped them said they were almost impossible to beat and people were already talking on the internet that St. Judes Academy was going to win the trophy this year.
Amara looked up at the stars at night. She became more determined.
The chances of winning were getting smaller than the competition rules had.
There were other strong teams waiting to compete..
When she thought about Victors smart ideas and her own attention to detail she knew one thing, for sure:
Amara and Victor were not going to give up easily.
The competition was on.
The real fun was only just starting.
