EPISODE 1: THE GIRL WHO NEVER GAVE UP
The sun was coming up over the horizon at Bright Future Secondary School. The morning light was warm and golden. Students were walking through the iron gates. They were all wearing their school uniforms. Everyone was. Laughing.
Some kids were talking about the football games they played over the weekend. Others were talking about the movies and what is trending on social media.
There was a girl named Amara Johnson.
She was walking with the students.. She was not like the others. Amara loved school. She thought it was a place to learn new things. She loved reading books. Doing her homework. While other kids were waiting for the bell to ring so they could go home Amara was in the library reading books.
The Classroom Debate
Some kids liked Amara. They thought she was great.. Others did not understand her. They thought she was weird because she loved school much. One day a boy named Tunde was talking to Amara. He said, "Amara why are you always reading? It is so early in the morning." Amara said, "I like to read because I learn things. Did you know that our brains can hold a lot of information?" Tunde said, "I do not know how you do it. My brain gets tired after a while."
Amara was very smart.
She was not arrogant nor was she mean.
She always helped her friends with their homework. When the teachers asked her questions she answered them in a way.
All the teachers loved Amara. The other kids liked her too. They did not feel bad that she was smarter than them.
The Big Announcement
One day the principal came into the classroom. He said, "I have some news. Our school is going to be in the National Young Innovators Challenge." All the kids were very excited. This was a deal. The winner would get a scholarship to college. They would also get computers and other great prizes.
There was a problem. One kid from each school could be in the challenge. The principal said, "We will have a test to see who will be our representative." All the kids were talking about the test. They were all trying to figure out who would win.
A Rivalry Takes Shape
There was a boy named Victor. He was very smart and charismatic. He always came first in class. Victor wanted to win the challenge bad. He thought he was the best. When he found out about the test he said, "I am going to win this. Amara you are good. I am better." Amara just. Said, "We will see who wins."
The Crucible of the Exam
The day of the test came. All the kids were very nervous. They were all studying hard. Amara was studying too. She was reading books. Doing practice tests.
When the test started all the kids were. Thinking. It was a hard test.. Amara was calm. She read each question carefully. Answered them to the best of her ability.
The Notice Board Secret
After the test all the kids were waiting for the results. They were all very anxious. Finally the day came when the results were posted. All the kids ran to the notice board to see who won. Amara was standing at the back. She was very nervous. Then she heard her friend Tunde yelling "Amara you did it!" Amara ran to the front. Saw her name at the top of the list. She had won the challenge.
When Amara looked around she saw Victor.
He was not happy.
He was staring at the notice board with a look, on his face. Amara felt a little scared.
What was Victor thinking?
Why did he look so angry?
Amara did not know what to think.
She just knew that she had won the challenge.
She also knew that this was just the beginning of her journey.
