Chapter Eight
Reed's POV
So having said all that, here I am. It's very surprising how much of a dumb ass i***t Robert is, considering all the hype he got from my brother, it was kind of a disappointment. I mean, despite all my flaws and mistakes, he never suspected a thing. Oh well! That's a story for another day, right now I need to take a criminal to the execution hall
“Jeremy!“ My colleague called out
“Oh! Hey man!“ I greeted and he nodded in acknowledgement. He looked like he wanted to say something. I sensed it might be something pleasant
“Is anything the matter?“ I asked in anticipation
“Don't you think you should be dragging the criminal at cell 56 out to the execution ground instead of asking questions that do not concern you? . The Alpha and the people are waiting” Simon said as he passed by. It came off rude, which was not of Simon's character.
Something was off, I could Sense it. But could it possibly be?
Anyway,
“Got to go, see you later man!“ I said and headed towards the dungeon, whatever crime this guy committed was surely severe, considering how fast his execution was
Yes, I am a pack guard but since the night with my mate, I had been at the pack's border, I needed to clear my head and stop feeling guilty, so I'm lost in all that's happened in the past week. A colleague of mine said a lot happened, the details which he was going to tell me after the execution
On getting to the cell, the figure I saw suggested that it was a woman, which was very surprising. I mean, what crime could a woman possibly commit that would warrant immediate execution?. Her head was bent downwards as she sobbed. Upon hearing the clattering of the keys over the huge locks, as I struggled to unlock the cell, she raised her head, which gave me the shock of my life.Sitting on the hard cold floor with chains, bruises and fresh dripping of blood all over her body, was my mate. The one I had taken advantage of
“What the flying f**k!“ I exclaimed inaudibly and instinctively rushed towards her and cupped her bloody face in my hand, I felt a surge of different emotions within me as I stared at her. I was pretty sure she could not recognize me as she was very much wasted that night
“You?“ She called out, oh well, maybe she wasn't that wasted. Her voice was faint like a whisper. God knows the hell she must have passed through here. It broke my heart and I suddenly began to feel a surge of anger. I wanted to rip the motherfucking son of a b***h who put her here, apart.
I didn't know what her offense was, but I couldn't bear to see her in such state, call me a hypocrite, but i believed that whatever crime she had committed could definitely be forgiven
“Why are you here?“ I asked
“G.. Get away.... Get away from me.. You pervert” I whined inaudibly, i'm not justifying my act, but I couldn't totally be blamed
“Look, I know you are mad about what happened, and I am sincerely sorry. But I need to get you out of this place immediately” I said, beginning to unchain her, and take the silver collar off her neck. Her wounds didn't heal as I had expected. Odd
“What do you mean?“
“I'm helping you escape, I can't let you be executed” I gathered her from the ground and started to hurry towards the secret back passage of the dungeon. I had built that myself, I used it to sneak out some prisoners who were ready to join my secret army
Soon, we were in a cave, located in the woods, very far from the pack's settlement
“Why aren't your injuries healing?“ I asked as soon as she was lying on the wooden bed I had made
“I don't know” she responded weakly
Sigh! I called the attention of Sameer
“We need Frederick here” I informed, and he nodded, then left
Shortly after, he was back
“Um..Reed! Doctor Fredrick said he wouldn't be able to make it here. But he would ask Maggie to come over”
“Alright, she better hurry” I responded and turned back to my mate
“I never got your name” perhaps I shouldn't have said anything. She passed me a disgusted look
“Look! I know you think I'm a pervert and all that stuff but the thing is….well, the thing is….“ I didn't even know what I was to say. She looked away, and I decided to leave her to rest a bit
Soon after, Maggie arrived
“I'm here now, what's the emergency?“ She asked
“Holy s**t! The…the murderer? You're the one who helped her escape?“ She threw questions at me, while pointing accusing fingers on the lady
“Hey, hey, calm down. It's not what you're thinking alright? Just help her heal, and I'll explain everything to you later” I responded and she shook her head
“There's no way I'm letting this murder live. She deserves to die, after murdering the innocent Valaria” Murdering the innocent Valaria? Don't tell me it's what I'm thinking
“The bartender? She's dead?“ I asked in surprise. But I couldn't believe it. She didn't even look like she could hurt a fly
“Maggie, she doesn't deserve to die, okay? Tend to her wounds first, then we…” She didn't let me finish
“No Reed, I won't. I can't” she said. I was beginning to get mad. This is my mate we're talking about
“Tend to her. NOW” I ordered, giving her a cold stare and she hurried towards the lady
“All done. Your wounds would be better in a few hours” Maggie announced
“I'll take my leave now. There are things I need to take care of at the hospital” she added, and without waiting for my response, she left
I sat there staring at the lady, I was in deep thoughts. I mean…How is it possible? I know you can't judge a book by its cover, but I'll be very unhappy…
“My Name is Serena” Her voice pulled me back to reality
“Oh! Nice to meet you, Serena. I'm Jeremy” I responded with a smile
“Jeremy? I thought I heard your friends call you Reed?“ She asked with creased brows
Shit!
