I was just about to leave Carol Lynne's after unloading my family drama when the door opened across the hall and Carter...Reese...whatever, walked out. His brows quirked up when our eyes locked.
He turned to Keith and said, "See ya next week, bro. And don't get into too much fuckin' mess while I'm gone."
Keith grunted in acknowledgment, and they did that boy hand-clapping thing.
I went down the stairs, pushed through the metal door and opened my umbrella as fast as possible once outside. The wet smell of concrete was a familiar scent, as spring was upon us. The journey home would be safe tonight. Downpours deterred bad guys, or at least that was my current theory.
