The Lake House

Sofia’s POV   After my breakdown, I'm lighter and a little better. Crying is quite liberating! And in Luca's arms, I feel safe. After I have dried my face off and taken a couple of deep breaths we both go back inside. I keep my eyes down when I enter the dining room, not wanting people to see my swollen face and puffy eyes. Lucas holds my hand and leads the way. When we arrive back at the table no one says anything, and for that I'm grateful. I don't want to explain myself and my sudden deviation. I give everyone a reassuring smile and sit back down to finish my meal.  "When we are done here, would you accompany me to my office? We still need to resolve the issue of how to deal with your situation, Sofia!" Jacob's brother asked me directly. "Yes Alpha" I answered meekly while giving him a small smile. "Please, it's John or Johnny!" He insists. I nod and quickly eat up so we can deal with this as soon as possible. I haven't even decided what to do. Am I going to play dead or risk ending up all over the News? When are done, we say our goodbyes to Isaac, a sleeping Izzi, and Tobias before leaving for the office? John walks behind his desk and takes his seat while Jacob slumps down in one of the visitor's chairs, feeling at home. When I motion for Lucas to take the other one, he simply lifts me and places me in his lap. He places his arms around me and rests his head against me from behind.  "Sofia, have you made a decision on how to do this?" "I'm sorry, but no. It's an impossible decision to make. Die or hide? If I 'die"'I would never be able to go back home. And wouldn't me being alive put your society in jeopardy?" I ask hesitantly looking at them one at a time.  "The story about you would almost certainly end up in the News, but it will die down in time, and you would be safe from it here!"  I nod affirmative but say nothing.  "We would simply contact the police station handling the case, and tell them that you were picked up by your friends here!" John motions to Jacob and Lucas with a wink and continues "That the trip was planned since before, that you forgot your phone and when you learned about your family you were hospitalized. Dr. Summers and Mr. Lee can confirm everything!" He said with a soft expression looking at me. I think about it hard, they have done so much for me. Can I put them through this too?  "We want what is best for you Sofia! Nothing else. I promise!" "It’s not only going to be me though! How about Mia, Olivia, Rose, Ruth, and Amanda? What will you tell the world when they are found? If they are found? Maybe it's easier to pretend that I'm dead?" I say more as a thought than a decision.  "My decision will impact the pack, won't it? And I'm not even a member!"  "As Alpha, I'm honored that you would put the pack above yourself. And it proves to me how worthy you are to become a member. Now let me prove that we are worthy of you! You saved the life of our future Luna. No sacrifice could be greater if you want to cover this up and still be able to go home and meet with the remaining members of your family. I, we, will help you do it!" His eyes are firmly looking into mine. He means every spoken word. I sigh with relief and give him my most thankful smile while getting up from Luca's lap. Before I even understood it myself I walked around the desk and put my arms around this big, intimidating leader in front of me. "Thank you!" I murmur with my Arms around him.  "Your welcome sweetheart!" He answers with a chuckle and returns the hug still seated.  A slightly intimidating growl makes me jump back, letting him go.  "Pull yourself together, she's my new baby sister!" John grows back in Jacob’s direction.  His eyes are flickering. Jacob and Blue feels a bit possessive at the moment. The thought of having so many protectors makes me feel brave, and I walk back around the desk and sit down in Jacob's lap instead. He relaxes and puts his nose in my hair, inhaling deeply!  We talk for a while longer, completing the details. We agree that instead of making sorrow the reason for my hospitalization it is going to be a camping accident. And then add up the sorrow, it's closer to the reality. And being out on a camping trip getting hurt would explain my lingering bruises. John Will hand out the responsibility of contacting the police back home to Magnus Lee at the police station. He and Monica will handle almost everything and contact me if they have questions. After updating John about the Aurora that possessed my body, and the information she gave us. We promise John that we will contact him immediately if she reaches out again. The Alpha ends our little talk by giving me his suggestion on becoming a member by the next full moon. It's like butterflies in my stomach, I'll become a part of the pack and the family! I thanked him for the offer and wondered if I have to make a decision right away, but he tells me to take my time. "I would like to know a week before. Usually, when we get a new member it's nothing special. But now it's a member of the family and a very special one at that! So mum will kill us if we don't throw a party and maybe a pack run if possible!" He smiles. Finally, we leave. Jacob and Lucas retrieve their belongings from the rooms they haven't slept in and take my bag as well. Then we walk outside. Maggie is there with an incredibly handsome man. He looks like John and Jacob but darker, and his eyes are blue. His dark hair has some gray in it which amplifies his good looks. They are such a stunning couple. Maggie introduces her husband James, and he gives me a calm smile and takes my hand. "It is so nice to meet you Sofia!" He calmly states, "my wife has told me so much about you, but she didn't do your beauty justice!" He says, making me blush. Maggie hugs me and promises me that they will visit soon when I have settled in. John also hugs me, "I'll talk to you soon!" He says before opening a door to a large pickup truck and helping me inside. Lucas and Jacob jump in, and we wave goodbye one last time before we start the drive to Jacobs’s house.   The forty-five-minute drive is quiet. I look out the window admiring the beautiful scenery. The open landscapes around the small town are exchanged for a deep forest. When we follow the road to the end of the forest, the lake is the first thing I see from far away. It's vast! The water looks black from this distance. As we get closer, I can finally see the little village. The nice-looking houses make me gasp. This is so pretty, like a fairytale! We drove into the village and crossed it quickly. In the center there is a small shop that according to Jacob has most of what we need, the shop is also the post office and pharmacy. Here is a preschool and a school, two restaurants, a flower shop, and a small clothing store. Jacob tells me that the nearest city is two hours south of us, as soon as everything is taken care of by the Lee's we can go shopping for whatever I need. Until then we will make do with what we have. Driving through the village I see all kinds of different houses, everything from new modern bungalows, to traditional houses and small cute cottages. Everywhere people are out in their gardens, those who see us greet Jacob as we drive by. The children are out cycling or playing on the streets, here and there in the balmy evening you can smell people having BBQs. The best way to describe this is perfection! The serenity of the community, the security, and the feeling of joy all around. People look happy here. Down by the lake, the houses are spread further apart. Jacob pulls into the driveway of a wooden house painted in Tuscan sun yellow with white trims and corners. The porch has a white railing matching the door. It's breathtaking, it's amazingly beautiful. I sit there staring in awe at this amazing house with my mouth open.  "Mind the birds!" Jacob chuckles, making me shut my mouth hastily.  "Do you like it, angel?!" He murmurs, taking my hand. "It's wonderful!" I breathe. "So, you like it?" He presses on. "I absolutely love it!" I answer and throw myself at him hugging him tight and kissing him on the cheek, surprising him and me. I back off and look at him apologetically, I can feel my cheeks heat up. "You can kiss me whenever you want, angel! Don't stress it!" He tells me with a huge grin and kisses me on my cheek before taking my hand and helping me out of the car. Lucas and Jacob grab our bags and refuse to let me carry anything. Jacob opens the front door and steps to the side letting me inside. I guess Lucas has been here before and doesn't need a tour. The house is just as beautiful inside, light and air. The color scheme is soft and pleasant. We drop our stuff in the hall and Jacob grabs my hand and pulls me with him into the kitchen. The cabinets are dark gray with white marble countertops and oak floors. The kitchen table and chairs are also in oak and match the floor perfectly.  "This is the kitchen!" Jacob tells me, making Lucas grunt. "She probably knows that!"  Jacob rolls his eyes at him and continues " And in here is the dining room, I've never used it…" he pulls me into a room with a big dining table for twelve people. In the ceiling above the table, there is a golden chandelier with five rows of crystals in it. The walls are in a soft blue. Jacob keeps pulling me along showing me every room on the ground floor: the living room, the bathroom, the laundry room, and the large wooden deck with a stunning view over the lake. When we entered the second floor he showed me his office, also in gray but lighter. The second floor has five bedrooms, three are empty, one is a guest room, its light with cream walls and white furniture, it has an on-suite and a walk-in closet. The largest bedroom is the master. The walls are a dark midnight blue giving it a cozy feel. The furniture is walnut, and the curtains are blackouts in a dark gray. I guess Jacob likes his bedroom dark. The bed is a full king size and looks soft as a cloud. The last thing on the house tour is the back, a large patio with a view of the lake takes my breath away. Parts of the patio are a porch with a roof and protection from the sun. But down in a corner, a short distance from the house is a hot tub. Around it grow large spiraea shrubs with large clusters of white flowers. It's so unique that it takes my breath away. When the tour is over, we go back downstairs, the day has been long, and I'm getting tired. We decided to order pizza, none of us felt like cooking tonight. When the order is placed, we sit outside on the patio and watch the sun while we wait. It's only one thing that's bothering me... "Hey guys, there's three of us right?" "Mhm," they hum, ”But there are only two bedrooms. So, how are we going to sleep?"  I look between them and wait for a response. "However you want!" Jacob answered with a cheeky smile while giving me a wink. I look to Lucas for a more serious answer but his face holds a secretive smile, and he just gives me a slow nod, showing me that he's with Jacob in this.  "However you want, angel!" He whispers making my heart flutter.
