Sofia's POV
Monday morning I contacted Owen about my parents’ house, and if it’s cleared regarding the investigation. He assured me that I’m allowed to take what I want from the house. And that everything has been processed. Owen even offers us to stay at the southern pack territory, he tells me and Lucas that his Alpha would consider it an honor. The Alpha-families apparently know each other.
“Would it be a problem, with Lucas I mean? He’s a bear after all…” I ask unsure about taking the offer if it means Lucas would be in trouble. I know that bears and wolfs aren’t on the best terms always.
“Not at all. We don’t have much experience with bears but we think we can handle one if necessary!” jokes Owen.
Honestly, I am glad that we may be able to avoid hotels. And that I can have them both with me, we don’t have to be looked at. They're wolves like Jacob so they shouldn’t have any prejudices against me having two mates right? I gaze up at Lucas who just sits relax by my side. He has an expression on his face telling me; if they only knew! I guess that they have no idea what he could do if he wanted to. I promise Owen to talk to Jacob about it as soon as he gets home from work before we hang up the call. We have solved so much In one phone call.
“How do you feel about getting your old stuff back?” Lucas wonders with worry in his eyes. I’m not sure how to answer that question and think about it for a moment. I guess it’s weird, stressful, and sad. I shake my head at him still not knowing how to explain.
“I’m sorry babe! That was a stupid question!” He quickly tells me and pulls me up to sit on his lap. I shake my head again.
“No, it was a valid question. I just can’t find the words. It’s not just stuff. Its memories from another life. A life I don’t miss, but I miss the people in it! I’m happy I have found you!” I tell him making eye contact. When I continue, I do it whispering. My voice isn’t strong enough and I don’t want it to break.
“Do you think everything happens for a reason? Maybe it had to be like this.” He looks shocked at my words.
“I never wanted this to happen to you…” He assures me slowly shaking his head from side to side.
“It’s a mental Mexican stand down!” He sighs “If it didn’t happen you wouldn’t have to go through this. But if not, I might not have found you!”
“Yeah.” I agree and contemplate the alternative. Maybe I’m selfish, but I don’t want to lose Lucas or Jacob. Or maybe it’s my subconscious telling me that I can’t change it anyway so I shouldn’t ponder.
We continue the day with packing. My bag has been packed and unpacked several times before lunchtime. I’m super stressed about doing this. What will people think? What will they say? Maybe I should go by myself? Lucas has his family and Jacob can't just leave work and the pack. They have other responsibilities to tend to.
Jacob’s POV
It’s almost lunch and I haven’t accomplished much more than walking in and taking my seat. The thought of her soft skin under my fingertips, the smell of her arousal, and the taste of her make it hard to work. My thought is constantly on her and not the new customer. Staring out the window at my office I feel myself become semi-hard by the memory from last night. She was so at peace after her release that I didn’t even doubt the action. Her moans were music to my ears and I could listen to them all the time. I guess typing it would be considered weird…
A dull drumming sound on my desk wakes me up.
“Is this what they do to you? Mates.” My brother asks humorous studying me from my visitors’ chair.
I grunt at him in response. He laughs before he gets serious; “You are taking care of her, right?”
“Of course!” I sneer. Maybe I should work from home on the days I don’t have personal meetings. I can do the digital ones from my home office. Lucas is soon going to work and then he won’t be able to spend all day with her. Blue agrees with me, we need to work from home when he is leaving for the mill! He shows me all kinds of dirty things he wants to do to her.
‘Animal!’ I frown at him.
“What’s on your mind brother?”
“I think I’m going to work more from home, especially when Lucas starts at the mill!”
“Ah, well that wouldn’t be a problem! If you intend to work on behalf of the company and not on making pups of course” Johnny gives me a smug smile “If there isn’t one on the way already?”
I cover my face and sigh, pups. We haven’t even talked about it.
“Nah, we haven’t, not after what she’s been through. You know!”
“Sorry, I didn’t mean…”
“I know,” I tell him “she is stressed about the funeral now and we’ll see. When she is ready!” I decide.
A vibrating at my desk let me know that I have got a text.
*Hi, I miss you! Talked to Owen, his Alpha offers us to stay at their pack. What do you think?
“Dirty texts? You’re doing something right!”
“i***t!” I hiss, “Alpha White offers us to stay at their pack when we go down south. She wants to know what I think.”
“She beat me to it then! That’s actually why I’m here. David called me before and invited you, your mate and Lucas to stay with them. I reassured him that Lucas is better at respecting hierarchy than you.”
“Give me David’s number and I’ll talk to him about it. It’s a generous offer!”
Johnny and I talk about some contracts that need his signature and about the extra days I’m taking off to be with Sofia at the funeral. All is in order and sins I can do the rest from home I decided to go home to eat a late lunch with my wonderful Angel.
“Give my sister a hug!” Johnny orders before standing up.
“Sure! Hey by the way, have you heard anything? About the Auroras, or Mia?” I ask him. His demeanor changes and he gets gloomy.
“Nothing. Has Sofia gotten any visits from the witch?”
“No,” We stay quiet. Johnny walks to the door and opens it.
“Take care of her!” He tells me.
“I will. And I’m sure Mia is alright!”
He nods before leaving. I make a mental note not to bring the topic up again.
When I come home Sofia is laying on the couch huffing and puffin annoyed. She has a sketch pad before her and a pencil in her hand. She is biting the tip of it and her feet are making small circles in the air. Her wide hips and round as is barely covered by the oversized t-shirt. I recognize it as one of mine. I mentally wag my tale at that small gesture.
I drop my bag on the floor and attempt to walk up to her when Lucas grabs me by my arm and pulls me into the kitchen.
“Leave her be for a little while longer!” He whispers.
“Why?”
“She is a bit, unreasonable. At the moment!”
“Wha…?” I say unsure of what he means. But I’m interrupted.
“It’s not just wolves and bear that has ears you know!” She shouts from the next room making Lucas cringe, the mistake is obvious.
“And I’m NOT unreasonable!” She yells even louder.
“Of course not Honey!” He pleads “I didn’t mean that…” looking at me for help. I shrugged my shoulders and walked out to her.
“Hi, Angel! How’s your day?”
“Fine, and yours?” She asks with a silky voice.
“Awful, I missed you so much!”
“Did you get my text?”
“Yes, I did. I was talking to Johnny about it. He said David had called him and offered us to stay with his pack. Would you like that?” I coo pulling her up onto my lap.
“Yes!”
“Then it’s settled! I’ll call him later and tell him when to expect us!”
“Not us, just me!” She clarifies.
Lucas walks up behind the couch and looks at me worried.
“What do you mean Angel?” I ask carefully not understanding. I figured I’ll wait to argue about this until I know what she is thinking. I’m unwilling to get sent to the doghouse like Lucas.
“I’ve thought about this okay, listen! It’s going to look weird if I show up with the two of you. What are people going to think? And you are needed here, you have a job to do and a border to protect. And Luca has his family and River is still missing. What if they find a lead of Arthur’s whereabouts and you two aren’t here? You can’t just drop everything and go with me…” She babbles on, attempting to convince me about this unreasonable thinking of hers.
I listen attentively until she gets quiet and looks at me with her beautiful eyes still on my lap.
“Angel,” I say carefully “That is unreasonable! We are nowhere needed as much as by your side. And who cares about what they think, who is they anyway?”
She throws her hands up in surrender and tries to get up.
“No, Angel! Listen to me, I love you and you are the most important part of my life. I can quit my job and leave the pack if needed. But it’s not. I’m coming with you.”
Her wonderful eyes are wide open and her mouth opens without a sound leaving them. The soft plump lips make me want to catch them in an endless kiss. How could she think I would let her go alone? That we would let her go without us?
“You, love me?” She gasps. My words hit me. Oh s**t. Did I just tell her I love her? This wasn’t how I wanted to do it, but I can’t back down on it now.
“I do,” I confirm.
Her mouth opens and closes, and then opens again. The silence is excruciating, Through the silence, the sound of her heart racing is heard. I think mine has stopped beating, I can’t feel it. Even Blue is holding its breath waiting for a reaction. The sound of her heartbeat echoes in my ears.
“I guess we’re all going then,” She finely stuttered still looking at me slightly confused.
“Thank you!” I whisper before kissing her.
Her head nods but she seems to be so far away in her mind.
Lucas POV
The stress is making her unreasonable. After unpacking her bag for the fifth time and then throwing a tantrum I back of. At the same time, I feel like she is suffering, and it pains me.
Waking down to the kitchen I figured that we need something to eat. As I’m standing there, cooking, I hear her walk into the kitchen. Standing by the stove I don’t dare to turn to look at her. When I feel her presence behind me, I hold my breath. Her soft hands sneak around my body, her palms lay flat on my chest. The warmth of her cheek against my back sends’ shivers down my spine. We stand like this until I notice her body is trembling, and hear the sound of her crying.
“Honey,” is all I can get out. And it’s not enough.
Her hands ball up to fists pulling my t-shirt, so I let go of the pan and take her hands in mine. I hold them while turning. I take her in my arms and hold her shaking body. I’ve seen devastated before, and it’s just as heartbreaking this time. I never want to see her cry, I want her to be happy, always!
I lift her onto her spot beside me and keep on cooking. Her breathing evens out and she relaxes. She seems to contemplate something, and I don’t want to disrupt her thinking, so I keep quiet. After she has eaten her grilled cheese sandwich she sighs and smiles my way.
“Thank you,”
“You’re welcome. Do you feel any better?”
She nods and puts her elbows on the table and then her head in her hands.
“Do you want any help packing?”
“No, I’m fine!”
“Okay, do you want to help me pack?”
She frowns and sighs again.
“I don’t think you should come with me,”
“Why not?” I interrupt annoyed by the thought.
“I just don’t think it’s a good idea!” She hisses with anger in her eyes but without looking in my direction.
“Don’t be unreasonable,” I begin but am interrupted before I can say another word.
“I’m not unreasonable! I just don’t think it’s a good idea, that’s it!” She shouts, shocking me.
No amount of pleading helps, she is so mad at me. So, I give up. I just let her be to calm down. She fetches her sketching pad and a pencil before laying on her stomach on the couch. She huff and puff with anger. If she wasn’t so mad, she would have been cute. Well, she still is, I don’t think this is the time to tell her though.
Jacob comes home early and I pull him in the kitchen to give him a heads up.
“Leave her be for a little while longer!” I whisper, hoping she won’t hear...
“Why?” He wonders puzzled.
“She is a bit, unreasonable. At the moment!”
“Wha…?” He intends to ask but is interrupted.
“It’s not just wolves and bear that has ears you know!” She shouts from the next room making me cringe, she hates that word, f**k!
“And I’m NOT unreasonable!” She yells even louder.
“Of course not Honey!” I tried to plead with her “I didn’t mean that…” Jacob shrugged his shoulders and walked out to her.
“Hi, Angel! How’s your day?”
I Follow him quietly and listen in on their conversation, hoping he can reason with her. Her voice is smooth as silk when she answers him. I wonder if he knows it is a trap? He wouldn't agree to stay home and let her go. Not on her own. Would he?
She hurriedly explains to him how she has thought and probably thinks herself, that she sounds persuasive. I stand behind the couch and can't see his face. She sits in his lap while telling him.
“Angel, that is unreasonable! We are nowhere needed as much as by your side. And who cares about what they think, who is they anyway?”
She attempts to stand up and leave, but he holds her down. I clench my fist to not reach out for her.
“No, Angel! Listen to me, I love you, and you are the most important part of my life. I can quit my job and leave the pack if needed. But it’s not. I’m coming with you.”
Her face reflects mine, absolute shock. Did he just say he loves her?
When she questions him he calmly confirms that he indeed loves her. When she accepted that we are coming with her I breathes a sigh of relief. I couldn't stand being away from her for days.
As Jacob kisses her my heart sink and I feel left out. She, however, seems spaced out. She is physically present, but mentally, she is far away.
The rest of the day progresses in silence. She walks upstairs to pack again. She then disappears into our bedroom, and Jacob goes to his home office. We eat in silence, brush our teeth in silence, and go to bed in silence. My heart akes. Her soft skin radiates warmth beside me. And all I can think of is touching her. It's with a deep sigh I roll over onto my side and close my eyes. A small hand sneaks under my arm and is placed on my chest. Soft fingers draw small circles on my skin. It's like my chest gets lighter with every tiny move she does. Every muscle in my body relaxes and I let sleep take over.
