Sofia's POV
The rain pours down the windows of the large pickup truck as we leave the driveway. It's like the weather knows I'm in a foul mood and decided to join in. Jacob and Lucas are quiet in the front. I'm seated in the back with a pillow and all our bags next to me. My dress and both their suits are all carefully covered and hung from the other backseat to not get wrinkled. The lake I now know as the silver lake and have come to love is hidden behind the trees. I won't see it until I am back.
Jacob contacted Alpha White and accepted the offer. I was stunned when I learned how close to my hometown they live. The Summemoon pack lives in an area with dense forest. We, myself included, have mocked those from that part of the county our whole life. They go to school in the city like the rest of us. And the city people look down on everyone from outside, us from green wally included. It's a way of life, us against them, every part and village for themself unless there is an outsider around. Often A northerner. If so, we all of a sudden go together, defend, and help each other out! That's how it's always been.
I study the drops of water on my window and sigh. It is going to be a long trip.
"Do you want to listen to some music, honey?" Lucas wonders from upfront.
"Sure," I shrug and keep my eyes on the forest, trying to spot the lake between the dark forest sweeping past, but in vain. Lucas put on the radio, and we listen to whatever comes on.
Time drag on, slow like a snail. So I'm surprised when Lucas pulls over at a stop. Jacob sleeps on the passenger side and snores softly.
"Lunch!" Lucas says and pushes Jacob on the shoulder to wake him up. Jacobs makes this sound. As if he comes up from being underwater before he hums and rubs his eyes. With an adorable yawn, he stretches before rolling his shoulders.
Lucas turns towards the back and pulls up the cooler from the floor. He picks up sandwiches and drinks and hands them out.
Absently I eat what he gave me, still looking out. It's stopped raining. But the day is still gray. I glans at them from my seat while eating. They are keeping quiet and are looking down at their food. A tug of guilt reaches my heart. I am not being fair to them right now. This whole thing isn't their fault, and I shouldn't let my foul mood get the better of them. They deserve better!
I clear my throat slightly.
"Any suggestions on how to pass the time?" I question carefully.
They both turn to face me and look at me. Lucas has this sad look in his eyes, while Jacob looks more indecisive. I moved over and leaned forward towards them. I reach out to touch them, placing my hands on their cheeks, Lucas to my left and Jacob to my right. They relax into my hands, and a small smile plays on Jacob's lips. Lucas sighs and closes his eyes.
"I'm sorry!" I tell them as I caress their cheeks. They nod into my hand but say nothing about it.
"How about a game?" I ask.
Jacob looks up at me with those sparkling eyes implying that we don't think about the same type of game. Lucas seems more hesitant.
"What do you have in mind, angel?"
"How about twenty questions? There are some things I don't know about the two of you yet!"
"Only if we get twenty as well!" Jacob answers, peering over at Lucas, "each."
For some reason, there is a string of nervousness.
"So, every person gets twenty questions each?" I think out loud considering it. I guess that's fair.
"Alright, each one of us gets twenty!" I decide and let go of them and make myself comfortable. It's true I still got questions. But I don't think I have twenty. Oh, well, I'll figure it out!
"Nice, who will go first?" Jacob exclaim rubbing his hands together like a villain in a movie.
"Ladies first," Lucas tells him as he starts the truck and fastens his seatbelt. He gazes at me through the rearview mirror with the same bothered expression. I smile at him and take a breath. Where do I begin?
"Lucas, when's your birthday?"
"April, second"
"Your twenty-three." I continue. But Jacob buts in and interrupt me.
"A-a, One question, then it's our turn! No cheating!"
"I wasn't cheating, and that wasn't a question. It was a statement!" I clarify, holding up a finger at him. He scoffs but says nothing more.
"Whos next?"
"If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?" Lucas answers my question with a question and lets me know the order. I chew on my bottom lip as I think about it. I have never been anywhere, so everywhere would be nice.
"I would like to go somewhere warm! Live by the beach, and enjoy the sun!"
"No, honey. Pick a place!"
All countries of the world appear to me in my head. Where do I want to go?
"Cape Vered!" I throw out. Lucas gives me a nod in the mirror and then puts his eyes back on the road.
"What's your favorite color?"
"I can only pick one?"
"You can only have one favorite!" Jacob laughs at me, but what does he know. I have favorites depending on the occasion. When I look at Jacob, my favorite is Green, the dark one that beech leaves have in the middle of summer. But when I focus on Lucas, his eyes glowing with golden amber, I can't imagine a better color. At the same time, I like navy blue or a soft sky blue regarding clothes. What colors are there in a sunset or a sunrise? But if I have to choose only one, I guess it would be Mauve.
"Mauve!"
"That's not a colo! It is a flower." Jacob proclaimed and turned in his seat.
"So, it's a flower without color?" I laugh at him before pulling out my phone to show him which color and shade I mean. He takes the phone and looks at it before holding it up to Lucas.
"That is a pretty color!" He admits before handing me back my phone.
"So, Jacob! When's your birthday?"
"May, fifth!"
I nod and note this in my mind. I've missed both birthdays, but there is always next year!
"Game of Thrones or Harry Potter?" Questions Lucas, surprising me.
"Harry Potter, of course!"
"Do you like waking up early or staying up late?" Jacobs asks.
"Staying up!" I have never been a morning person.
When it's my turn again, I think hard about what to ask. The day is still gray outside my window ruches past. We still haven't reached the highway and are surrounded by forest. I decide to have some fun with them!
"This one is for both of you, boobs or butt?"
They both laugh and make me smile. The sound of their laughter is hard to describe. Butterflies flutter in my belly and heart, and my core clenches listening to them.
Lucas lets the road go whit his eyes for a moment and glance at me, then Jacob.
"Butt!" They both laugh, not surprising me at all! When it's Lucas's turn, he stays quiet like he's contemplating what to say. I don't rush him. He always gives me time whenever I need it. I open up the cooler and find the fruit. Having fun has worked up my appetite. We are still on a small road, so I unbuckle my seatbelt and scotch forward. I feed Lucas a grape then turn to Jacob to do the same. He catches my fingers in his mouth and sucks on them.
"You taste heavenly!" He murmurs against my fingers before I pull back. Lucas sits with his mouth open and expects some more. I keep on feeding them and myself while we drive south!
"I'll skip this round!" Lucas informs us after we have finished the fruit. Jacob's eyes shine with his signature mischief when he asks me his next question.
"What is your favorite body part on a man?"
"Hands!"
"Why?" Lucas asks before Jacob can beat him to it.
"Is that your question?"
"Is that yours?" He teases.
I Shrug my shoulders, smiling at him and avoiding answering.
"Why?" Lucas asks again. I guess that's his question.
"I don't know why! Ther is something so appealing with warm, strong hands holding me, I guess! Hands have fingers, and fingers can do so much!" I clarified with a wink.
"How many women have you been with?" I ask Lucas. He stays quiet. Then he pulls over and stops the truck. Without a word, he opens the door and leaves the vehicle. Oh s**t, I didn't mean to make him angry. I quickly pull on my shoes and jump out after him.
"I'm sorry, you don't have to answer that..." I yelled after him as my feet touched the ground beneath me. In the blink of an eye, he is upon me. He grabs me by my tighs and lifts me. I feel my back against the wet truck door, and his lips are on mine. My hoodie sucks the water up, and my back gets wet.
"You are my first and last!" He breathes against my lips while kissing me with passion. My hands sneak up on his neck and into his hair. The butterflies are making my whole body tingle, and my heart swells in my chest.
"I love you," He finally gasps against my lips before putting me down with one last kiss on my forehead. Flabbergasted, I say nothing. He opens the door and lifts me in before buckling my seatbelt and closing the door. When he is back, we drive off.
Jacob smiles at us both, "Is it my turn now?" He wonders. And I nod at him.
"Do you want pups?"
"I love puppies," I answer distantly.
"Not puppies, pups, babies!" Jacob laughs and explains.
"Oh! Well, yes!" I tell him.
"How about cubs?" Lucas chimes in.
"Hey, it's my turn!" I scold, "but yes, I want children!"
"How about you two?"
"As many as you want!" Jacob and Blue tell me.
"Yes!" Lucas says with confidence.
Well, that was unexpected. I'd never thought that this game would be so enlightening. I was hoping for birthdays and favorite foods. But knowing they want children makes me happy.
"Do you two want to turn me? And if so, into what?" I ask. If they want to have children, they have to have thought about it. They themself explained to me that most of the human women in the pack are turned. And that bearing children is the main reason for it. They look between one another but say nothing.
"Just tell me," I try to persuade them while giving them reassuring smiles. Lucas nods thoughtfully at Jacob before concentrating on the road ahead. We are leaving the forest behind and pulling out onto the highway. Jacob must be tired of turning all the time by now.
"Yes, angel. We would have to turn you," he confesses, "but the turning is dangerous, and we don't take it lightly. And, we won't do something you don't want. So, we want to, but we aren't going to!" I have never thought about the risks. What is the worst that can happen? I look at him, thinking about my next question when I remember that he didn't answer fully.
"And?"
"And what?"
"What would you turn me in to, If you were to do it!"
"Why do you get double questions? That's two, not one!" Jacob scoffs playfully, making me snort.
"Fine, give me a question, then answer mine!"
"When we come back home, do you want to visit the hospital and get all the medical information on being turned?"
"I don't know. Can I think about it?" I answer truthfully. It is not a decision I'm taking lightly either. Not now, when I know, there are risks. They nod in agreement.
"So, bear or wolf?" I ask again.
"Wolf!" They both say with one mouth. Have they discussed this already? Do they have an agreement without talking to me?
The anger that flares up in me quickly suffocates when I see how Jacob stares at his friend in surprise.
"Why?" Jacob asked Lucas, beating me to it.
"She is joining a pack of wolves, isn't she? It would make sense for her to be a wolf!" He shrugs, "I don't want the pack hesitating about protecting her. If we can't do it!"
"They wouldn't!" Jacob declares, somewhat offended.
"You can't promise that! Making her a wolf would ensure that." Lucas answers, clearly annoyed. They keep on bickering about pack loyalty. They are not arguing per se, but it's clear that Lucas has struck a nerve when implying that the pack would pick and choose who to protect. If ever needed.
What do I want? I have always liked wolves, I guess. Bears were Hannah's favorites. I remember the bear I put around her neck on her graduation. I am taking it with me back home!
"I think being a wolf would suit me fine!" I mumble more to myself than anyone else.
"Lucas, do you want to join the pack?" I ask, interrupting their bickering.
"I don't know..." He tells me with his eyes on the road.
"Do you want to?"
"I think I do, but that's not a reason for you to do it! Jacob, can he live with us without being a member?"
"Yes, Johnny thinks about him as a family member because of you!"
"Explain to me what being a member means, please!" I beg Jacob. The game is long gone, and now it's just an open field for every and any questions, I guess. Jacob explains the initiation. A cut to my palm, the mixture of blood with his brother and the vow. It's like a wedding, and you can make it small or big. Jacob tells me Maggie wants to go big on this. And that she has requested a pack run afterward. Jacob describes the run as a way to form ties between the pack members. It's a way to get to know each other and recognize each other.
"The vow, what do I pledge?"
"You promise to protect the pack and the ranked members, to respect and obey them!"
"I'm not sure how to contribute to protecting anyone, but I can try!" I laugh. "When do Maggie and John need to know?"
"That depends on how big you want it! If I were you, I would wait until the last minute!" He jokes. The full moon is in two weeks. I guess I can take one more to decide what I want.
The landscape sweeps past as we race down the highway. In the beginning, there were little to no cars on the road. Instead, there is a lot of pickups and large trucks. Jacob is taking over driving by nightfall. He leans back again and falls asleep. Lucas lowers the music so we can talk without disturbing Jacob. He doesn't have that sad look in his eyes anymore. Instead, he seems to be pondering over something or everything. Jacob snores again. I get him! Sleeping to the sound of an engine is something of its own. Lucas keeps licking his lips, those full, soft, delicious lips. I have dreams about them on my body, along with his rough hands. As he licks them once more I get jealous, I want to be the one tasting them!
"Behave!" Lucas rumbles low, meeting my eyes in the mirror.
"Oh, I am!"
"You forget that I can smell you, honey!"
"Nop!" I say, popping the p before liking my lips.
Lucas takes his eyes from mine, concentrating on the road again. I unbuckle the belt and move over to sit behind him. His fingers clench around the steering wheel, causing his knuckles to become white. My hands move over his strong shoulders and down his arms. I feel his breaths with my hands, the steady rising and falling of his chest. I lean into the right side of his head, touching his earlobe with my lips as I breathe, "Eyes on the road..." making him shiver.
"This isn't fair!" He hisses at me and grips the wheel impossible tight. I can't help the smile on my lip. Slowly and feathery light, I kiss him right behind his earlobe and allow my lips to caress his skin down his throat, kissing him over and over. A soft groan escapes him, and again I smile against his skin. Embolden by his reaction. I let my right hand wander down his chest, his hard abs, and finely reaching the buckle of his belt. A sharp gasp for air lets me know that he is steadying himself, preparing for what I am to do next. I kiss him back up to his ear, "Do you like it?" I tease before taking his ear in my mouth nibbling it. My hand diverts to his thigh before traveling back up along his body. I put my head on his shoulder and my hand on his heart. He takes a deep breath and relaxes back in the seat. There is this tingling feeling at my fingertips, and a tremendous amount of serenity flows through my body before I whisper: "I love you."
