Chapter 17

1412 Words
Though Jenny’s primary reason for chasing Jack was to teach him a lesson, somewhere between the chase she completely forgot about that and the reason changed into pure pleasure. Soon she was laughing like crazy while chasing Jack everywhere and enjoying it as much as she would have been at the age of five. For Jack, it was what he was aiming for from the very beginning. He only threw Jenny’s Cell phone so that she would chase after him as he knew that they would only enjoy the date when Jenny opens up to him and the best way for Jenny to open up to him was to make her mad at him. And he did just that. After that, everything turned out as he planned and he never had to try a second attempt to make the day enjoyable for both of them. Everything became beautiful automatically after that and soon Jack too was lost at the pure pleasure that was originated by the simple act of being childish. The day flew by and none of the two had the knowledge of it. They ran, they laughed, they chased each other, they swung, they ate ice-creams and candy-floss and they played with the children like they were children themselves. To the onlookers that might make no sense, to them they might seem crazy but the young couple didn’t care. Some laughed at their childish activities, while some frowned with disgust; some were too astonished to show any expression and just gaped at them, and some of them, some of the elderly people just smiled at them with a knowing look as they have regarded the young couple as one madly in love. But the two, who had drawn all those attention towards themselves had nor the knowledge, nor the care of all those things as they were simply lost into the small innocent world that they had created for themselves. As the day came near the end, Jack and Jenny were still laughing to no end as Jack led Jenny to their car by her arm. As they settled down on the car, Jenny turned to Jack with a beautiful smile and looked into his eyes. “Thanks.” She said softly. “For what?” “For everything. Today… it was…. beautiful. You’ve made my day. I don’t remember the last time that I laughed so hard. And it’s all thanks to you. I truly appreciate everything you’ve done. I want to thank you again and again” “You don’t have to,” Jack said sincerely. “I’m just glad that I could make you happy. That’s all I want. That’s what I will want for the rest of my life. I just want to make you happy with all I’ve got.” For a while, they just stared into each other's eyes intensely, not talking, not moving. Each was showing the same feeling for the other in their eyes while one was doing it knowingly, one unknowingly. Then suddenly Jenny’s gaze dropped from Jack’s eyes to his lips and she slowly started to lean her face towards his. Jack froze on his sate as Jenny placed her hands around his neck and brought her mouth closer to his. Her lips almost touched his when suddenly Jack’s phone rang and they both jumped. Just like that, the spell was broken. Jenny pushed herself away from jack and sat straight on her sit while Jack cursed inwardly. The phone kept ringing on and he picked it with an annoyed face. But as soon as he saw who the caller was his face softened and a soft smile played at his lips. “Hey beautiful, what’s up?” he said smiling into the phone and Jenny frowned at him. Then suddenly his expression changed into concern and he said, “Hey sweetie, relax! Everything’s fine. Yeah. She’s with me. Here, talk to her.” With that, he handed the cell phone to Jenny who took with it immediately with concern and confusion while Jack started the car. “Hello?” “Oh, Jenny! Thanks God!” Came Laura’s relieved voice and Jenny visibly relaxed. “Where the hell have you been all day and what the hell is wrong with your cell phone? I have called you like a thousand times but it just kept coming unreachable. I tried your office number but they said that you had left early. And when I called at your home, no one picked! Even Jack wasn’t picking his phone. I have been worried sick about you all day!” “Relax Laura! I am all right. My cell phone was coming unreachable because Jack bro- I mean it broke by accident and I did leave early from the office. I didn't go home yet, nor did Jack that's why you couldn't find us on our landline either. We went on an outing and Jack forgot his phone in the car that’s why he couldn’t pick up your phone. We’re just heading home now. Sorry for making you worry.” “It’s okay. If I knew that you were on a date with your husband, I wouldn’t have worried at all not for you anyway!” Laura teased and Jenny blushed. “Shut up!” “Alright, then I’ll stop teasing. Now to the serious business, the reason I called you in the first place is, tomorrow’s Boris’s Birthday and I want to…” “Oh crap! I completely forgot about it! How could I? I’m such a horrible person! I don’t believe that I….” “Hush now! Before you get drowned with guilt which is totally unnecessary, let me finish. Tomorrow’s Boris’s Birthday and I’m giving him a surprise birthday party. You’re coming with Jack.” She ordered. “Of course I am! And I will help you with everything.” “No, you won’t. I want to do everything by myself. It’s being his first birthday after our marriage and all. I want to make it special for him, for both of us.” “As you wish. But are you sure that you don’t need any help? I still feel very guilty for forgetting such an important thing.” “No I don’t need help and you better stop feeling guilty like this. You always remember and it doesn’t matter that you forgot this one time with all these things happening to our life. Just make sure that you are here tomorrow by 8:00 pm with that gorgeous husband of yours and I’ll be as happy as good!” “Alright then. See you tomorrow.” “Okay. Be there on time. Bye.” As soon as Jenny hung up, Jack started laughing loudly and Jenny looked at him confusedly. “What’s so funny?” “Nothing. I was just remembering how you were appreciating everything I did today a while ago.” “Well? What about it?” “I bet you didn’t appreciate my breaking your cell phone!” Jack started laughing again and this time Jenny joined him. “You bet I didn’t.” And then turning serious she frowned and turned to Jack. “But why’d you do that? I got really mad because of that you know?” Jack sighed. “I know. But tell me something, would you have chased me like that if I didn’t do that? Do you think that the day would have turned out as it did if that didn’t happen?” “No, I guess,” she said smiling softly. “So, are you still mad at me?” “No.,” she said softly again and then suddenly with a mischievous smile, “Well not when you are buying me a new phone!” “I am?” he asked with amusement. “You are.” She replied with confidence.
