Chapter 19

2091 Words
As they settled at their car Jack burst into laughter while Jenny glared at him still fuming. Jack couldn't believe his luck. He never imagined that Jenny would be this Jealous over him at anyone and the fact that she did made him want to dance as it only showed her deep feelings towards him. He wanted to shout with joy and as he replayed her words to Miranda over and over again in his mind he went into hysterics with laughter. Jenny narrowed her eyes at him and finally snapped. “Did you enjoy her attention so much that you can’t stop laughing out of happiness? If that’s the case then why don’t you go back to the party and fall into her arms? I bet she would be more than happy to accept you.” Jack started laughing harder hearing that. “No honey. I just enjoyed the fact that you were so jealous over me that you actually humiliated her publicly. Jenny froze. “I… I wasn’t jealous. I was….just…” she started stammering. She then closed her eyes and opening them said “I was just pissed off her shameless behavior. Yes, that was it.” She tried to reason herself. Jack started the car grinning and said “Yeah sure. You keep telling that to yourself!” “What do you mean?” Jenny snapped. “I mean that the reason you acted the way you did just a while ago is that you were jealous and the reason you were jealous is that you love me!” Jack regretted badly as soon as the words were out of his mouth and wanted to kick himself. He had pushed it too far this time. Jenny wasn’t ready for it just yet and a quick glance to her face only confirmed his fear. He wanted to kick himself hard again as he saw Jenny’s expression and realized that he could do nothing to make it right. The damage was already done. Everything was going so perfectly but he just had to go and ruin everything. He could only pray now that Jenny comes to terms with her feelings soon and accept them and not start avoiding him. For he’d die if she did so. Jack didn’t dare utter a single word for the rest of their journey and Jenny too sat frozen on her seat drawing a wall between herself and Jack. So they spent the rest of the journey in silence. As soon as they reached home, Jenny got out from the car and ran to the house. She didn’t stop running as she entered through the door until she went upstairs and locked herself up into their bedroom. She then threw herself on the bed and started sobbing badly. Jack sighed and also entered the house and locked the door. But he didn’t go upstairs after Jenny and sat down on the couch putting his head on his hands on the living room instead as he knew that Jenny needs to be left alone for the time being. Because trying to persuade her to talk to him would most probably make the matter worse. She’ll face him herself while she was ready. All he could do now is to wait for that to happen. At that moment Jenny was having an emotional turmoil inside her. All her emotions started becoming clear to her and she felt overwhelmed by them. There were so many emotions working within her; shock, anger, fear, pride, frustration, sorrow, pain and finally…. love. Yes, she has finally realized the fact. She was in love with Jack. Everything made sense now. Her weird behavior around him, her desire to be near him, her possessiveness toward him, her jealousy over him everything! It was her jealousy over him that made her open her eyes to her love toward him. Though at that time she didn’t really know it was what it was that made her so mad at Miranda, it was jealousy. She was jealous and in love and didn’t even realize it or rather kept denying it until Jack stated the fact on her face. At first, she denied it vigorously and tried to push that horrible thought away but after struggling furiously a while she lost to her own feelings and all the built up emotions of her toward Jack shattered the wall that she had wanted so desperately to guard her all her life. She was in love with Jack. How or when did that happen she had no idea, all she knew and knew clearly is the fact that she loves him. She loves him and she can’t accept it. No, she can’t! How could she? How could she fell in love with a man whom she was destined to hate? How could she love him when the reason she entered into his life was to destroy him? How could she love him when he was the man who threatened to destroy Laura’s life? How could she love him when he forced her to marry him? How could she? But then again was he really the villain? Images of her and Jack’s moments together flew through her head. The way he acts, the way he tries to make everyone happy, the way he tries to make her happy, his innocent behavior with the children at the playground the previous days, everything contradicts her idea of his character that she formed previously. Nothing was clear to her. His feelings, his actions nothing. She was only clear about one thing and that is her feelings towards him but nothing of his feelings. She didn’t even know why he married he forced her to marry him in the first place! Her heart says that he is a nice person but her mind questions why did he force her into marrying him if he really was a nice person? And then her mother's words from that night struck her. “Have you ever spent a second thinking why had he done it? That there might be a reason for it?” Could it be that her mother was referring to something else when she said that? Could it be that her mother knew something that she didn’t? Her heart started beating wildly as one thought came to her mind and with it came a little ray of hope. But she pushed them aside with a hard shove and got up from the bed with a set face. She was too overwhelmed with emotions. But right now she needed some answers. And she will have them now. Jack got on his feet as soon as he heard the bedroom door open and saw Jenny climbing the stairs. He searched her face desperately to find something, anything that’ll give him a little hope but found nothing but set determination on her eyes. “I need you to answer me something, Jack and I need you to answer me honestly. Will you do that?” Jenny asked calmly. “Yes I will. I will do anything you ask me to.” Jack replied desperately. “Alright then tell me Jack why did you marry me? Why did you force me to marry you? Why did you want to marry me so badly? Tell me the truth Jack. I want only the truth. No lying, no pretending. Just plain truth.” “I married you because I fell in love with you the moment I saw you.” Jack said sincerely. Jenny laughed a bitter laugh. “And that’s why you forced me to marry you? Because you fell in love with me?” “I…I did it because I didn’t want to lose you. I knew that you won’t marry me any other way. I thought that I’ll win your heart once we are married. That you’ll also learn to love me someday.” Jack tried to make her understand desperately. “You did it because you fell in love with me and you didn’t want to lose me and you thought you can win my heart, it’s all about you! What about me, Jack? What about my feelings? Have you ever considered what I was going through? Have you ever considered that I might not want you? That I might never want you? That I might never learn to love you? That marrying you could only turn out as a lifetime punishment for me? You had no right, no right to control my life like you did. Who gave you the right to play with my life like that? Just because you fell in love with me, you had no right to bind me to you against my will!” Jack’s face distorted with anguish. “Honey, please listen to me I never wanted to…” “Stop! Stop already! I’ve heard enough today. I don’t want to hear anything else. I don’t want to hear your voice anymore. I don’t want to even see your face. In fact I’m leaving right now. And you won’t stop me or follow me. I warn you Jack don’t follow me. If you’ve ever loved me then just listen to me this once and don’t come after me. Just leave me be.” With that she grabbed her car keys and left the house while Jack stood there frozen. ………………….. Three days has passed since Jenny left him and he has been miserable ever since. The loneliness and guilt was eating him and the searing pain in his heart was almost causing him death. Finally he couldn’t take the pain anymore so he took out his car and started driving furiously. He wanted to see Jenny, he needed to see Jenny. He needed to find her and see her and hold her in his arms. Oh he so wanted to hold her in his arms! But before that he needs to get her forgiveness that is if she will actually forgive him! He will beg her to forgive him and take him back in her life for he couldn’t live without her. But he will leave the decision to her. He won’t trouble her ever again if she didn’t want him in her life. He won’t repeat the mistake of forcing himself on her life. Yes mistake it was, a huge mistake. He should’ve never forced her into marrying him. He should’ve never imposed his love on her. Jenny was right; he had no right to play with her life like that. Granted he had no intention of playing with her life but how does that make his actions any better? Willingly or unwillingly, it doesn’t matter. What does matter is the fact that he had hurt her and he had hurt her badly. How could he be so selfish with his love? How could he snatch her chance to choose the way to live her own life from her? How could he? He should have tried to persuade her, to convince her of his love and always be by her side like a true gentleman when he first fell in love. Instead he just went and imposed himself on her thinking he would make her the happiest woman on the earth. So blind he was with conceit that he completely ignored her feelings! So self-assured he had been that it didn’t occurred to him that he can’t possibly control everything; specially when there’s other people’s feelings are involved. As these self-loathing thoughts swarmed through his head, he kept speeding his car up without actually even noticing it. So lost he was in his thoughts that he didn’t notice the speeding truck coming from the opposite direction, at least not in time. And when he finally did see it, it was too late and before he knew anything, his world went black.
