THE WICKED NATIVE DOCTOR
“Gboo! Gboo! Gboo! People of Amuma kingdom, they shall be no farming from today till the next market day they shall be no hunting, no drinking, and no burial until the great dibia ikuku is laid to rest “After Akara the town crier made this announcement, the villagers began to discuss about the late dibia ikuku.they wondered if they would ever be a great native doctor like dibia ikuku in the land of Amuma kingdom again Dibia ikuku was a very strong native doctor. His power was highly felt in Amuma kingdom and beyond.there wan no issues that was brought before him that he couldn’t handle. Even other neighboring villages felt the power of the great ikuku.whenever they was conflicting issues they all ran to Amuma village to seek solution from dibia ikuku.one unique character about dibia ikuku was that he didn’t use his spiritual wisdom to acquire wealth. He never charge anyone money before attending to their problems. Whenever people come to him to seek solutions, he tell them what to do, without any charges. And anyone who bring Gift for himself,as a sign of appreciation,he would split it into 3 one for wisdoms, one for orphans and one for himself. The town crier, after the announcement, went back to the king’s palace “long live king Edu 1,of Amuma kingdom.i have delivered your message.ti the people of Amuma kingdom”said the town crier as he knelt down before the king Akara stood up and sat at a small stool beside the king.Chief osita then stood up “long live the king long live Amuma kingdom my king and elder of our land ,I strongly believe that as we plan the burial of our great son ,dibia ikuku ,we should also be planning who will be his successor as the next dibia of our land” immediately chief osita sat down, king Edu pointed at him and said “God bless you humble chief. This issue you just raised is the same thing that have been bothering me,though I have someone I mind “” and who is the person you are suggesting to become the next dibia of Amuma kingdom? “Chief obinna interrupted. Kìñg however, said that as a way to appreciate the good works of dibia ikuku ,he believes that the first son of the late dibia ikuku Akpi should become the next dibia of Amuma kingdom Immediately king Edu announced his support for ikuku first son, Akpi , of replacing his father, his wife queen ola interfered. “ Queen ola believes that having a good father does not guarantee that the son must also be a good person. Before the king could talk more, queen ola interrupted him “my king you are right dibia ikuku deserve a place in the history of Amuma kingdom, but the question is this does his son have the same attitude like his father” “look here let me tell you “the king said, confidently “ a goat can never give birth to a snake only a snake can give birth to a snake. The son must act like his father” “ I trust your judgment chief obinna shouted. Queen Ola , however kept quiet. she was not comfortable with their ideal. After the meeting that night as the king and his queen wanted to sleep, the queen pleaded with him to do a check on the late dibia’s son Akpi to be sure if he is capable of being the village dibia . Aftersaying all she could to try and convinced the king, the king Smiled and said to her, as far as he is dibia ikuku’s son , he must be like his father.A wise man with such a good heart, can never give birth to a useless fool” The next day was an Eke day. That money the whole village had assembled at the village Shrine for the burial of dibia ikuku. There were no sing, no dance, no cultural display, no eating and drinking when burying their dibia. King Edu did some incantation and pay tribute to their ancestors. After the King finished his quote the body of late dibia ikuku laid to the ground and buried. Immediately dibia ikuku was buried, his son Akpi was ordered by the king to take the dibia’ staff . Carrying the stuff, the whole village then hailled Akpi has their new dibia and mouthpiece of the gods
