MJ POV

Dad pulls out the map, places it on the table and asks Bryant to show him where the South East coven is located. He points to a territory that is not right next to the one we are looking at occupying, but close enough. “OK, since they are the closet coven to the territory that we are looking at occupying, I think we should ask the council if we can have a meeting with them saying that we want to make sure that there will be no issues as we will be living nearby. Personally, with this attack on Mina, I have no issue doing a fly over and burning their territory down. But, I will give them a chance,” I say. Everyone just stares at me. “What” They tried to hurt my sister, a dragon princess. They could come after anyone,” I say. Bryant and Kent smile at me. “You are going to be a great king with that attitude. I would really like to be allies with you. Our outpost is located here,” Kent says pointing to the territory to he west of ours, its conveniently located between us and the witch’s. “I agree with Kent, our territory is here,” Bryant says pointing to the territory that borders ours on the East. I look at my dad. He smiles and nods his head in agreement. “Alright. I think we could all benefit each other,” I say shaking their hands. “Here, I had some papers drawn up so if we agreed on an alliance we could sign. Please look them over and make sure that they are to your liking,” Kent says handing me the papers.

I nod and start looking them over. It’s just like the wolf packs’ agreement. You help me, I help you kind of thing. I sign and then hand them to dad for him to look over. He signs as well. Kent uses his seal and that is done. “I just linked my beta, he is drawing up papers as well if you would like to ally with us. I would also like to ally with the wolf packs that you are so we can all help each other,” Bryant says. Kent smacks his head and says, “Why didn’t I think of that? What do you think about the Alpha Jace and Alpha Dylan? This could form a very powerful alliance. We could protect the dragons as they are coming out of hiding, and create an alliance that many would not want to stand against.”

Jace POV

I have been listening to MJ, Kent, and Alpha Bryant talk about the alliances. I’m glad that this is working out. Almost all of their borders would be protected by and ally. I am lost in thought about that when I hear Bryant saying that he would also like to form an alliance with mine and Dylan’s packs. Kent asks us about it as well and points out that we could be a very powerful alliance that few would want to go up against. I think on it for a moment and say, “I agree. It is time that we wolves come out of the dark ages and ally ourselves with other supernaturals. If we all work together, we can be a force to be reckoned with.” Dylan echoes my statement. “I will have the papers drawn up by the end of the next meeting then,” Devon says. “Alpha Dylan, do I have permission to contact Carter for you papers for this,” Devon asks Dylan. “Yes, lets get everything signed and submitted to the council by the end of today,” Dylan responds.

“On another note, Maximus. I have had a thought that can help us with the council,” I say. “OK son, what it is,” he asks in a curious manner. “Well, as you know, every supernatural race is represented on the council. This is in order to ensure that there is a viewpoint from every angle. Now, since there have been no dragons present for the last 300 years, there is no dragon on the council. I was thinking that we should address that at the meeting we are about to attend,” I say with a grin. ‘The council is going to be pissed,’ Devon links me. I just smirk as does Dylan. This is going to be an interesting meeting. “Hmmm, that is an interesting point,” Maximus says. Bryant interjects, “I would be happy to make the nomination for King Maximus to be placed on the council.” “That would be great. Then they cannot say that I am just trying to get my fath-in-law on the council,” I say with a laugh. This alliance is going to be great.

Maximus POV

We take our leave and head to the main meeting hall with our plans ready to go. The dragons and wolves sit at one table and the bears with Bryant and hunters with Kent sit at a table next to us. The council enters and the meeting starts. Bryant stands just as the meeting is called to order. “As Alpha of the Whitepaw bear pack, I would like to see a dragon represented on the council. I am nominating Dragon King Maximus for the council seat,” he says and the sits down shoot a smirk over to me. The hall breaks into chatter. The head councilman stands up and gains control of the room again, “Alpha Bryant, we cannot just open a council position because you nominate someone,” he says with a wicked smile. Kent then stands up and says, “Alpha Bryant is not nominating someone from a race that is already represented. The law decrees that the council represent every species and in order to do that there must be at least one member representing each race. As dragons are not represented, it only makes sense to have a dragon council member. I second the nomination for Dragon King Maximus.” I see Jace and Dylan standing to continue the motion. I look up to the councilmen and the looks on their faces are grim. The room erupts into here here’s. The head councilman yells out for order. The room comes to order and I stand up. “I am honored that so many would like the dragons to be represented. If the council is astute, they will grant the request of the majority and install a dragon onto the council,” I say look straight into the eyes of the head councilman. ‘Dad, there is deceit in the head councilman. He is radiating fear.’ Mina links me. She has always been excellent at reading people and their auras. I continue to stare down the councilman. If he thinks he can win against me in a dominance match than he is wrong. The councilman sighs and says, “the council will have to discuss this …”

Jace POV

I quickly stand up, “There is nothing to discuss. The law states that every supernatural race be represented. The dragons are not represented so there must be someone on the council. That someone should be King Maximus. He is an experienced ruler, and he will transferring his throne to his son in six months.” There are murmurs of agreement as the head councilman glares at me. Someone from the other side of the room stands and clears his throat, “What Alpha Jace says is true. The dragons must be represented, especially since so little is known about them. If the council does not agree with this, we could always call for a vote of no confidence as they do not have the best interest in mind.” The man nods at me. ‘Who is that?’ Mina links me. ‘That is Lord Drake. He is a vampire that has allied with us. Almost no one knows about the alliance as it was established three generations ago. While it is on file with the council, I doubt any of the current council members know about it,’ I reply. She nods.

The head councilman’s face is turning red. “well, it seems that this matter is settled then. We have two nominations for King Maximus to be the dragon representative on the council, all in favor,” there are enough ayes for the motion to pass and my father-in-law is not instated on the council.

As this matter comes to an end the doors are thrown open and Anna is standing there staring at me. “I have a formal complaint to lodge against Mina the dragon princess,” she says as she saunters in. She starts to fake cry, “Mina attacked me simply because I was going to be Alpha Jace’s chosen mate.”

Mina POV

Anna is in here spouting some nonsense about how I attacked her, yeah right. I look around and notice that the council seems to be buying it. That’s it, I’ve had enough. I stand and say, “What proof do you have of this accusation. You are accusing a princess of attacking you.” She fake sobs, “I don’t have any proof councilmen.” All the councilmen look at me, “Is this true Mina?” They ask. “It is most certainly not true. I was the one attacked. She told me she was giving me a chance to reject Jace and leave. When I denied, she shoved me into someone that tried to hold me in place while another tried to inject me with dragon’s root,” I reply in honesty. There are gasps around the room. People were talking about who to believe. I look at Jace and then my brother and father. I take a deep breath and say, “I Dragon Princess Mina Redheart challenge you Anna, for the Luna position of the Black Diamond pack. If you win, I will step aside and reside in the Dragon kingdom unless I find a second chance mate somewhere else, if I win, you will step aside and not bother Alpha Jace or I on the matter of chosen mate and Luna. You will acknowledge that I am Alpha Jace’s rightful mate and Luna as determined by the Moon Goddess. These are the conditions on which I place on this challenge. Do you accept?” The hall is silent. Everyone is staring at Anna, waiting for her response. She smirks at me, “I accept on the condition that if I win, you reject Jace here in front of the council and other Alphas.” “Fine,” I reply. I start stretching and moving my muscles. Then Jace stands up.

Jace POV

I can’t believe this. Anna is accusing Mina of attacking her when I am sure she is the one that did the attacking. I see Mina look at me and her family and then challenges Anna. She put very specific stipulations on the challenge. I like that. Once the challenge is accepted by both parties, I stand up, “Councilmen, do you accept the terms of the challenge as stipulated by both parties?” The councilmen look at one another with smirks. ‘These jackasses are expecting Anna to win so they can install her as your Luna. This may be a set up by the council. Something is off about this challenge,’ Devon links me. ‘I agree. I think Anna was going to challenge Mina regardless, but Mina beat her to it and put a lot of stipulations on the results of the challenge and by doing it in front of the council and Alphas she is guaranteeing that they will be followed. No one will assist Anna if she loses and continues to try to come between us,’ I respond. ‘The Luna is very smart,’ he says and then closes the link.

The council finishes their silent discussion, and the head councilmen says, “We acknowledge the conditions of the challenge. The challenge will take place outside in ten minutes.” With that everyone started filing outside to witness the challenge. I look nervously at MJ and Maximus; they are grinning widely. ‘They know something,’ Xavier says.

As we are heading out to the grounds for the challenge, Alpha Bryant comes up to me, "I was watching the South East Coven as Anna was accusing Mina. When Mina issued the challenge and then accepted that she would reject you if she lost, the head witch, Eve, smiled. I think the witches may be working with Anna on this. If they really were the ones responsible for attacking Mina, they are going to want to weaken her so they can take her easier," he says in a hushed tone so we will not be overheard. "I will link my beta and notify my other allies and Mina's family to keep an eye on them discretely. They will not take what is Mine. I do not think that Mina is going to lose. Anna was raised by a warrior, but I do not think she trained as one," I reply.

We get to the grounds and a circle has formed. I walk to the front and pull Mina into a hug.
