By the time Noah and Patrick reached St. Catherine’s hospital; Noah tried on a dozen half-smiles that were supposed to convey that Noah knew that his mother’s illness was not her fault. Much the same feeling he was trying to spare young Patrick from feeling that scared- that hopeless. Lillian Sparks-Riley had been catatonic since Noah’s twelfth birthday. According to the Verdean gossip Mongols, after this Noah knew and hoped it wasn’t too late to keep Patrick from taking a profession from his Grandfather for no other reason than Noah saving his mother.
Lillian -Riley -Sparks was a slight woman of about five-five hundred and thirteen pounds. “Hi Mommy, the doctors say that you haven’t been eating much and they want me to try to talk you back into it”. Noah kissed her on her cheek and said: “This is Patrick Mom”. He’s going to keep you company while I talk to his Mom and figure out what’s the best reality for her to live in”.
“Patrick, stay with my Mom and you and I can get dinner in an hour. “ Sound good?”. Noah said striking the only deal that would allow him any comfort of the day. He could do that for Patrick. There wasn’t much he could continue to do for Renee unless she let him help her.
Noah was going to pick her up from Aunt Millie’s because when you have two women with very strong opinions about themselves and each other. Renee didn’t feel comfortable staying in Aunt Millie’s house. Instead of calling Noah to drive her home, she tried to climb back into the sport utility vehicle that she had driven since before she met Noah. She had forgotten to account for her six-month-old pregnancy belly when her car crashed into a tree.
Renee was still unconscious, so Noah’s request for Patrick to see his mom would fall on deaf ears, at least as far as his grandparents were concerned. They blamed Noah for letting her do what he thought she needed to. Renee’s parents thought he missed a diagnosis of bipolar, but there was no family history, and her moods were easily explained by her pregnancy...
"Can we check on Penelope?" Patrick inquired.
"If it makes you feel better, absolutely"
Renee's parents may have been able to stop Patrick from seeing Renee because of the c*****e done to her face, but they couldn't stop Penelope’s twin brother from wanting to check on her. "Remember that People was sicker than you were". So, she may not be able to respond as quickly as you can”.
"Yes, I remember", Patrick sighed. As if he had heard the same lecture over and over.
" OK, go get out of here". "I will see you in an hour.”. Noah said
