When Penelope opened her eyes, she instantly recognized Patrick and began grabbing for him as if she had some big secret for him. “Dr. Riley! ``'' Dr. Riley, it’s Penn, she grabbed me as if she knew me”. Patrick said with an exuberance Noah had not heard in a while since Patrick had begun his sessions at the urging of the court because he hadn’t wanted to stay with his maternal grandparents. After all, they were keeping him in the dark about the identity of his biological father. Renee and Noah weren’t serious at least as far as Renee was concerned. She was an army brat which meant she was never too complacent in one spot for any length of time. She didn’t get attached to too many people for fear of losing self-control. Renee had trouble trusting everyone. She found it easier not to trust anyone until they showed themselves worthy of her trust. Noah had the opposite experience until his Mom got sick. One day while Noah was walking home from school, he thought his mother could hear his mother calling him from two blocks away. Noah couldn’t explain the feeling of dread fighting to consume his mind as he put his key through the door: “Mom?” “Mom?” “Are you ok?”. She appeared sweaty and out of breath like a good son, Noah went to get a big glass of water. “Yes, I’m fine, Daniel”. “Please don’t make a fuss” When Lillian said, “don’t make a fuss”. It usually meant “don’t call your Grandfather, but Noah recognized he couldn’t handle this one on his own. His Grandfather arrived twenty minutes after his Grandson’s call and patted Noah on the head: “Not to worry son”. “She just forgot her happy pill”. William said “She called me Daniel”. Grandpa whose Daniel? Noah asked. “Daniel is a whole other story for a different day Noah”. William answered his Grandson. Chapter 4: Uncherished Memories
