After dinner, Mark and I did the washing up while the boys went back into the living room to set up the Trivial Pursuit game. “I think the rain is getting stronger,” I said when a particularly fierce gust of wind hurled the rain against the kitchen window. Mark took the plate I handed him and began to dry it. “I’m glad I’m not out in it.” As we continued our clean up, we heard thunder rumbling in the distance. “Sounds like it’s coming our way,” I said after a second burst of thunder was louder than the first. “Northumberland is supposed to be one of the driest counties in England.” “So why did they build Kielder Water here?” I asked.
