Chapter1
TRISHA’S POV
“No.” I gasped in anger and pain, even as more blood gushed out of the claw injury by my side.
“Not now.” I groaned in agony, coughing out the blood blocking my airway.
“I can't go like this.” A sob escaped me even as I was raging on the inside.
I tried to move, any part of my body at all, just to prove to myself that I would survive this.
But they were already going numb, and I was beginning to lose feeling in my limbs.
I was dying.
This realization hit me hard with so much regret and anger.
“I.... can't ....die...now.” I managed to form words between labored breaths and the need to stay conscious.
“We need help.” The weak whisper of my wolf sounded in my head.
“Help, please!”
My voice was strong in my head though absent in my lips.
“Any one.”
“Any deity.”
“Help me please.”
All that managed to escape my lips was more blood and saliva.
Even as my eyes were beginning to go dim, my voice gone from me and my breath became shorter with every inhale.
My eyes closed for a while. I don't know how long, but then, suddenly, I felt a very strong presence, and it was very close.
I opened my eyes and saw a dark shadow hovering above me, seeming nonchalant about my predicament.
I tried to mutter,” Help....”
There was silence for some while before a masculine voice rich with humor and sarcasm replied.
“Why?”
“I.... can't...die...now.” I spoke weakly.
“Why?” Came the monotone reply again, without feeling.
“I...need...my... revenge...” I answered as tears of indignation slid down my half-lidded eyes to drop on the earth soaked with my blood.
“Not survival but revenge,” I suddenly heard that husky voice as its throaty laugh filled the silent woods.
“Sounds interesting,” The voice spoke again, and my blurry vision made me see the black shadow crouching close to my battered body.
I felt a warm finger parting my blood-soaked hair to the side as it further trailed a path down to the gaping wound at my neck.
“If I decide to help you, what would you give me in return?”
********
Whoever said nothing big could come off something so small hasn't seen our love or fallen in love. Like the strike of a match against its pack, your touch ignited in me a spark.
Never thought in my heart love was made for me, but you opened the door of love and showed me in.....
“Daydreaming again, my love?” I looked up at the sound of that familiar voice, the voice that brought light to my day and made my wolf purr.
“My love.” I sighed into his warm big palm, closing my eyes to enjoy the feeling of his fingers caressing my cheek softly.
“I figured you would be here as usual.” He smiled as I tilted my neck up to look at him.
My handsome mate, whom my wolf and I had known almost all our lives. Hair like golden brown sands, eyes cool as the sun at dusk, a full golden brown set of eyes on a handsome face. A face a lot of women want as theirs, but it is mine, and I'm never giving it up.
I smiled like a fool at him, enjoying just watching him.
“Did you hear any word I said, Trisha?”
“No obviously,” I got up and placed a kiss on his mouth, drawing back when he wanted to deepen it.
“I have work to do, Thomas,” I sighed unhappily, remembering the ascension was tonight.
“I thought you wanted to rest from all this stress.”
He gathered me in his strong arms as I turned my back to walk out of the cave I had been hiding in for some peace. Leaning to place light kisses on my shoulder, I noticed a faint feminine scent coming off him. My wolf noticed too and wasn't happy about it.
“Calm, girl. He's ours.” I reminded her as she stood up on all fours and wanted to start pacing about.
Probably the scent of the female enforcers he trained with every morning.
I thought within.
“Then why are you just smelling it?” a little doubting voice asked in my head.
“I have to go Thomas,” I told him quietly as I pulled his arms gently off my waist.
He grudgingly accepted.
I turned towards him with my back to the cave to make sure he wouldn't pull me in again.
Smiling happily at him, I blew him a kiss even though his face looked downcast and jugged out of the cave on hurried feet.
“Good day to you, Alpha Trisha,” I looked to my side to see two of my pack members walk by with their heads bowed low.
Smiling at them, I replied “Good day to you too.”
This was the normal way I was addressed even though I've not been made Alpha over Oak Pack yet.
But it was common knowledge that I was to be the Alpha, being the only child of my parents who passed away some years back.
And tonight is the night I finally take up my position as their Alpha.
As I walked through the compound to meet with one of the elders concerning the arrangements for tonight, I could feel the excitement in the air.
I could see the joy and happiness also on my pack's faces. No doubt they love and respect me, just like I love and cherish them too.
And tonight, exactly by midnight, I would officially own the respect of my people. My heart was heavy with the pride and love I have for them, including the little pups running around.
Suddenly I felt uncomfortable, like someone was watching me and trying to figure out who it was.
“Where are you rushing off to, Trisha?”
I looked back, momentarily forgetting about who I was looking for. It was my sister, sweet and radiant as always, smiling gently at me.
I returned her contagious smile, “I was going off to meet Elder Clarence. He said there were some issues we had to clear before...”
“Don't bother your tired head about that dear—” She held my hand as she dragged me off towards the opposite direction.
“I've settled it with him,” she smiled reassuringly, looking me in the eye.
Feeling relieved, I replied to her news with a tired laugh.
“Now let's go dress you up to look like the queen you are going to be tonight,” she squealed happily, tugging me into a run even as a carefree laugh burst out of me.
But what was this feeling of unease deep down within me?
There was a loud blaring of the alarm horn. Suddenly, I turned to see my enforcers running about.
“What's going on?” I asked the head enforcer, Jacob.
He replied with all urgency and a slight trembling in his voice.
“The urn of Ascension has been stolen!”
