Definition of terms
MANA is a type of energy used as a fuel to do magic. It is innate in nature. All living beings are intrinsically born with mana but only few are able to wield it.
MAGIC, a practice to create and/or do something (the caster desires and/or imagine) by the use of mana and spells. Can only be done by MAGICIANS, individuals who have high affinity with mana and can efficiently and effectively use it.
SPELLS are the other elements, more of a command-- single or multiple words, needed in Magic. It is a combination of formulas and a magicians desire and imagination
MAGIC DEVICES are crafted devices that can be used by ordinary people. Powered by mana. Used in daily lives of people. Only needs command to activate.
ARTIFACTS, things crafted using special materials for magicians to use. Features, abilities and use vary from one to another. Can only be crafted by master craftsman. Needed magic (mana + spell) to activate.
SORCERY, a malevolent practice. It is also called as black magic. Often associated with evil spirits. Uses dead mana, mana born from the leftover grudges and attachment of the dead to the world. It is learned rather innate. (e.g Necromancy)
SORCERERS, those who practice sorcery. Unlike magicians, they learn to do sorcery rather than having a natural talent in it. (e.g. Necromancer)
WITCHCRAFT, a practice associated with curses and contract with devils. Includes demonic rituals and human sacrifices. Basically used to harm people. Always needs invocations and other materials to activate. Learned rather than innate.
WITCH/WARLOCK those who practice witchcraft.
AETHER a type of energy used in the ancient time before mana. It is more powerful and concentrated than mana. Unlike mana, Aether can be used as it is. It doesn't need spells, incantation and/or other elements and materials
MANA ORGAN, an orb shaped organ the size of a pea located at the top and attached to a person's heart. This organ stores the mana of magicians. Common color of mana organ is white but as a magician become more powerful and their mana levels rise, it changes color. White to Violet (WROYGBIV), with Violet mana organ as the highest level.
OTHER NOTES:
In other fictitious literacies mana and magic, sorcery and witchcraft are terms used interchangeably but in my story, it has different meanings.
