Where is this place?

I woke up out of a start to some branches breaking close by me. I had no idea where I was however. I was in the pitch black darkness. My vision was clear though. I couldn’t see anything but I didn’t feel like my vision was blurred or anything. I saw a light in the corner, fire and what looked like a torch. I was in shock that I saw this. I didn’t think I was close to civilization at all. I still had the aroma of pine trees and oaks surrounding me.

“Where am I?” I said not thinking anyone would hear me. I was just trying to talk to myself to get my bearings on me. It seemed to me that I was in a cavern of some sort. My eyes now have adjusted to the darkness. I could tell that the material on the ceiling was actually earth. I couldn’t see in some parts of the cavern due to the fact that the torch didn’t light the whole cave. However out of the right side corner of the cave came a gibberish sound like I heard before from the woods what seems like minutes ago.

“Hello?” I stuttered out of my mouth. “Is someone there.”

I was now trying to make out what had made that sound I heard. When I looked towards that area, all I could see was a dark shadow in the corner with amber ish eyes staring right back at me. I got an uneasy feeling over me, but suddenly as if I was being talking to telepathically. I heard in a female voice.

“No need to fear sir. I’m not here to hurt you. You have been injured in an accident. How do you feel?” The voice rang in my ear.

“Who is that?” I asked out loud not having any idea what was going on. I was now worried but my body was telling me not to make any sudden movements or you could get hurt badly.

“Relax there, it’s alright. I’m the shadow you see here in the corner. I’m not trying to startle you. I have been hoping you would wake up. I have to check your back and make sure your doing ok.” She said as out of the corner where the shadow was came a creature that I could only describe as a oversized gorilla.

This thing was now standing at this point and I could make out all of the details now of the thing. It was about seven foot tall, covered in hair of some sort. It looked brown in the darkness but I couldn’t make out the exact color. It was a female origin as far as sexuality was concerned. There were definite breasts from what I could see as far as muscle depth on the chest. She was covered in hair everywhere except for the face. Here eyes glowed amber ish in the light but then turned into a light green in the different shade of the light. She held a look of concern in her eyes and that’s when I knew this was the voice in my head that was talking to me. She spoke again with no mouth movement.

“Would it be ok if I attend to your wounds?” She asked me pointing towards my back area.. Up to now I had no idea that I had a make shift brace around my back. I was feeling comfortable but still had a sting in my back. I looked down to see the brace around my back.

“Relax bud. This is to help out with your back. We can’t do much more with it but let you try to heal up.” The creature said to me. She was now holding her hands out to me and putting them around my waist. Unwrapping the bandages, the creature started examining my wounds.

“Looks like the vertebrae is not severed but it is pinched. I don’t know what else we can do here. I’ll try to heal you up as best as I can. So will my mate and my son.” She told me. Wait a minute, there are more of them? Now my mind was questioning everything I knew about the world. You mean to tell me there are more than just her and more than the other creature that killed my wife. How can this be? I never thought I’d be in the presence of one of these creatures. Who are they? Why are they keeping me alive? Where is here even? I don’t even know where I’m at. The female creature looked at me concerned like.

“I know you don’t know where you are and you’re wondering why we are keeping you alive and all that. Let me assure you, we are only trying to help you out. We came across you in the forest. You were in way worse of condition than you currently are. We helped you back to our cave up here at the top of this mountain.” She said. What mountain? Are we still in the Ozark’s is a question that flooded my mind.

“Don’t worry it isn’t a complete breakage from what I can tell.” She said after feeling my back a little bit. This female creature seemed very nice but I was still a little uneasy. Who could blame me though after what I had just witnessed.

“From what it seems it must’ve just been a small fracture. I could help you down the mountains but, we’d have to be careful with your back being the way it is.” She told me with her head turning in a little nod. Still here mouth didn’t open at all. This creature was so remarkable. I mean she was trying to make me feel at ease with what had happened. Granted I was still in a lot a pain, however I was now calm and gathering myself.

“Yeah that might be for the best. I’m going to need to get somewhere to have my back and whatever else that happened to me taken care of.” I told her as I nodded in agreement, “How far is it from here back down the mountain?” I then asked, the creature than looked at me.

“It shouldn’t be to far, I’ve been up and down these mountains plenty of times. It’s never usually a long trip.” She said while turning and looking into a corner of the cave. I looked towards where she was now looking and saw an opening that I didn’t see before. I must’ve not seen it due to it being pitch black when my eyes opened. I however was wondering why she was looking that way. All I could see were leaves, but nothing else was there. Than, in what seemed like a minute but was only a second came another creature. Bigger than the female and a lot more muscular. The definition of his biceps and abs seemed unreal. He was huge, more than I even imagined when she was telling me about him. He looked over at me and nodded, than he started talking without moving his lips either.

“You finally awake?” He said in a more gruff manly tone.

“Yeah,” I stuttered out not really paying attention to him. More less I was in a bit of shock at this point. So anything that was happening around me seemed unreal.

“Don’t worry about anything. We will protect you from those wendigo creatures.” The male creature said looking at me. Wendigo? What are those things? Is that what that thing that attacked me and my wife a few days ago. At least I think it’s a few days ago. I can’t tell what’s what anymore.

“What are wendigos?” I asked them not knowing for sure what I was even asking about at this point. Both the two creatures looked at each other and than back at me.

“It’s a curse that has been brought upon our land for centuries. See you humans and is used to get along pretty well. Until the outsiders showed up.” The female said looking my way.

“Outsiders, what outsiders?” I interrupted eager to know more about what happened.

“People from far away. We have no clue where they came from, all we know is they came from across the big river. They tore all the local villages in this area apart and left many to die. Since than witch doctors from that time period put a curse over the land. The curse has caused millions to die from no known causes. We have figured that these wendigo people, as we call them, have been behind these occurrences for years.” She said while looking out of the entrance that I could now see because my eyes were now fully adjusted.

“These creatures have been seen by each of us tearing animals apart and causing chaos in the forest around us. Have even eaten other human people like yourself.” The male figure added to what was said by the female.

“You mean these creatures feast on us because their cursed?” I asked them with a worry.

“Yes they are. Don’t worry though. They can’t come near you as long as we are around. They never attempt to try to harm us just the humans. However lately these creatures have attacked us and without warning.” The male creature said trying to reassure me that we would be alright.

“We are much stronger than those creatures though, so we won’t let anything happen to you if they come near us.” He added to what he said. It was a little reassuring that these creatures knew how much of a threat those wendigo creatures were to my kind, and they weren’t going to let anything happen to me. I was still scared out of my whits. I didn’t really know if I could trust this group of creatures yet. However, I’m sure if they wanted to hurt me they would’ve by now. So I had no choice but to trust them.

“How long will I have to stay here before I have enough energy to get up and move do you think?” I asked these creatures. Looking towards each other, both of the creatures spoke, “Really it all comes down to how long you think you need. We will keep you here for as long as you want.”

I started thinking a little bit and was thinking about taking a nap really. I didn’t really know if I should go back out right away after what just happened.

“I think I should be leaving soon.” I told them, “I need to let my family know what happened out here.”

The male looked my way and scowled, “You must not do such a thing!” He then yelled thru his what I was guessing to be telepathic communication voice now.

“Why not?” I asked sternly almost as if demanding an answer as to why.

“Cause then our kind would be in danger. To many of you humans have already came in and destroyed our areas looking for proof of us. Little do you know by doing so you have endangered our species. We are the last of our tribe. We can’t take a risk of endangering our species more than we have already been. You mustn’t tell a soul!” He told me after he thought for a second. My sorrow began to kick in as I started realizing what I was saying. I couldn’t do that sort of harm to these creatures. Their lives would be put to the chopping block for sure.

“Could I decide in a bit what I do further more? I promise I won’t tell a soul, but I don’t think I’ll be able to do anything right now?” I asked them. The males stood up and looked my way.

“Now you want to stay?” He said pausing mid sentence.

“You can, we will help you out. Right now you need some rest?” He said as he wondered off into the end of the cave and disappeared into the darkness beyond. The female then looked my way and told me the same thing the male had just did. I decided to heed their advice, I was getting tired anyway so I figured it would help. As I lied back down to fall asleep I couldn’t help but wonder what was going to happen from here. After awhile of gandering at my thoughts I fell asleep. Whenever I woke up, I would have a way to get back home. Hopefully safe and sound.
