CHAPTER 9
Evaluna (POV)
My eyes felt heavy from all the crying I did yesterday, but today is different. No tears, not anymore, that's what I told myself as I stuffed food in my mouth.
"Eat up, little puppy, you're gonna need a lot of strength today," Dax said while sipping his coffee.
I nodded and grabbed a couple more pieces of bacon before quickly shoveling it down. I chocked slightly while getting to my feet and punched my chest lightly, trying to get the bacon down.
"So *cough* when do we *cough cough* start?" I asked
"woah, don't get your tail in a twist. The yard will still be there. Besides, I want to finish my coffee before I start throwing hands.... I got a bone to pick with you. a rib bone, in fact, " he chuckled.
when Hreafn and the Alpha walked in and sat down at the table, the alpha took the seat at the head of the table, and Hreafn took the seat next to mine. The air felt heavy before I broke the long-standing silence.
"Alpha...." I stopped before realizing that I never got his name.
"Atlas." he answered, understanding why I paused.
"Alpha Atlas, I want to thank you for the beautiful ceremony for my mom. I really appreciate you taking the time to lay her to rest in such an unforgettable way, " I continued.
"it was my honor, I loved selene like a sister, I would have done anything for her." he smiled before pouring himself a coffee.
I felt a warm tingle radiate from my thigh, Hreafns hand was squeezing it ever so slightly under the table while he stared straight ahead, trying to look as normal as possible. I looked at him before placing my hand on top of his and grasped his large hand in my own and squeezed. upon this Hreafns face showed a small smile. Dax got up from his seat before stretching and saying
"All right, little puppy time to get our training started."
"Oh, okay, I'm coming," I said, reluctant to let go of Hreafn's hand. I stood up about to leave when Hreafn tugged on my hand and spoke
"Can you meet me in the lounge after your training is done today?" I nodded before following Dax out of the dining room and out the back door to the large yard that awaited us.
the yard was a huge circle feild surrounded by another circle of gravel. on one side was a wooden structure that held different types of wooden weapons suck as swords, mace stafs, and many more. we made our way over to the field while Dax explained what the training was going to consist of.
"So today we are going to focus on containing your wolf. meaning you can't let her come through. It's gonna be just you and me. no wolves today. "
"Why?... she's a lot stronger than I am, wouldn't it make sense to try and work on fully shifting and being able to control her,"
"True, but you can't always rely on your wolf. Werewolves also have weaknesses, regardless of if you're a rare breed or not. sometimes you will only have yourself. so you need to learn to fight." he explained
"What weaknesses?"
"Oh, you know anything that has silver or wolfsbane in it. also imence damage to the important organs. typical stuff. " he finished talking before heading over to the center of the circle, and he then told me to start running laps. following his instructions, I started running.
After about ten laps in, I felt an intense pain to my ribs before I fell to the ground. I just managed to catch myself saving my head from hitting the ground.
"WHAT THE HELL!" I growled as I felt my blood get hot again.
"First lesson... never let your guard down." he snickered, which made my blood boil. "Tsk tsk tsk contain her!" he ordered. this pissed my wolf off even more. I could feel her trying to claw her way through as my bones started to bend. I picked myself up into a seated position and took a few deep breaths before speaking to my wolf.
"You have to let me do this on my own," I told her.
"But he just suckered, punched you in the ribs. Are you really okay with that!?" she replied.
"To be fair, we kinda deserve it, we did break a couple of his ribs, not that long ago... in any case, please... listen to me. "
she growled reluctantly before she pulled herself away, and my body became my own again. I got to my feet and continued to run laps. this time, I got about another five laps done when I felt pressure from my back. I turned with the palm of my hand, and I made contact with his arm and pushed it away. when suddenly his arm twisted around my own while his other hand grabbed my t-shirt and he flipped me over letting my body weight do the rest as I landed on the ground once again.
"Better. but lesson two always thinks five steps ahead... again." I picked myself up off the ground and began to run one again.

Hreafns (POV)
I woke up before anyone in the house and quickly ran out and hopped in the car. I finally got the call that Evalunas present was ready.
"I hope she will like it." I said to my wolf, and he snorted before saying he knows she will. it wasn't a long drive into town. it only takes around twenty-five minutes. I parked up outside the store, ran in, grabbed the gift, and headed home.
when I got home, my father was standing at the front door with a serious look on his face.
"Hreafn, come with me, your mother is waiting for us in the lounge," he said sternly.
"What's going on?" I asked.
"Your mother wants to talk to you." he answered. I followed my father to the lounge with the gift in hand. he opened the door to show my mother sitting on the couch, her legs and arms crossed with her lips twisted into a thin line and her eyebrows crossed.
"Is everything okay?" I asked slightly angered at feeling cornered.
"No. that girl... and you. CANT HAPPEN." She demanded.
"What are you talking about?"
"Don't be stupid, Hreafn, you know exactly what I'm talking about!"
"I'm just keeping an eye on her. there is nothing going on. she doesn't have anyone else." I said, hoping she wouldn't see through my lie.
"You can't really think of me to be that stupid! it's obvious to anyone who looks at you. You like her." she replied while getting to her feet.
"And so what if I do! I'm almost positive that she is my fated mate! we are meant to be together! and what's wrong with that anyway! is it just because she is an orphan!" I groweled my eyes, darkening with anger.
"You really think that little of your own mother!" She snarled while stalking her way till we were face to face. it took me back her being that serious. She calmed slightly before continuing.
"I'm not going to pretend to understand how hard it will be to ignore your fated mate, unlike you, your father's and I arranged mating worked out with us being actual mates, but the world isn't always that fair... you need to remember you have a duty to your pack as future Alpha. which is why your father and I have arranged for a meeting with the daughter of Alpha Daniel of the blue moon pack."
"YOU CANT BE SERIOUS! mom an arranged mating! but I have my mate! she's beautiful, strong, and would make an excellent Luna!" I argued, trying with all my might to contain my wolf.
"Have you forgotten already! that girl has already started one war! what makes you think that another war will not start if you two become a mated pair. we would have the whole werewolf kingdom at our doorstep.... we are a strong pack Hreafn, but we can't take on the whole kingdom."
"I have no problem putting my life on the line to save hers if I needed to!" I protested
"Yes, but are you willing to put all the lives of the pack on the line!?" she groweled.
I knew she had me there. it was one thing to put myself in harms way, but to put the lives of my pack in danger is just stupid. I stood there for a moment, silent, lost in my own thoughts. I knew I had the strength to go through with what my mother wanted, but did I have the hreat to do it. I only just met her, and our bond hasn't been made yet, so if I stay away from her long enough, then letting her go and moving on would come easier. I can't just leave, though I will need to at least say goodbye.
"Well, it looks like your mind is made up. I'm not happy about it, and I will refuse to make a mate bond with anyone else. you're on your own with this one, " my wolf snarled in my head before I finally spoke to my mother.
"okay mother you win. I'll meet her, but I want a few days here to collect my thoughts."
"You have three days," she said before leaving the room and making her way home, leaving my father and myself alone.
"I know it can be tough being a future alpha, but you made the right choice," he said
"I don't want to talk about it anymore... just know this when I become Alpha, so many traditions will change!" I said while storming out the room and making my way over to the dining room following the smell of wildflowers.

Evalunas (POV)
My bones were aching, and my muscles were on fire. Dax worked me to the bone for hours, but I did get better near the end of the day. I actually laid a punch to his face at one point. I went up to my room and took a quick hot shower to get rid of the sweat. i quickly got changed into black leggings and a simple baby blue crop top before I left my room to meet Hreafn in the lounge.
it was when I got to the bottom of the stairs that I could smell vinilla and dark chocolate, but the scent was leading into the kitchen. I followed it without thinking. opening the heavy wooden door I was met with the site of a pristine kitchen with top of the line appliances and white cabinets with a black counter top, and a huge island in the middle where Hreafn was sitting.
"Hey, I thought you wanted to meet in the lounge?" I asked. he must have been really deep in thought because he jumped at the sound of my voice.
"Oh, I didn't hear you. time must have gotten away from me."
"Anything I can help with?" I asked
he smiled, but it looked very melancholy. He was forcing it as hard as he could. my wolf whimpered upon seeing his face.
"Unfortunately, it is something I have to figure out on my own, but thank you," he replied.
"Not that I'm complaining. I'm really happy you asked me to meet you but what is it about... it seems pretty serious from the way you're acting. "
"Oh my little Luna.... there is so much I have to tell you, " he said with sorrow in his eyes.
