13 The inside of Falconer’s black Mercedes was immaculate. The leather seats shone and smelled brand new. It looked like nighttime through the car’s tinted windows. Crispin drove. Falconer sat in the front seat, fingering her golden peacock necklace. Darius, Destiny, and I sat crowded in the back, shoulders and thighs rubbing. We rode in silence. Every few blocks, the bodies of the goons thunked in the trunk. Crispin’s knuckles were nearly white from the drive. I could tell he was nervous. Darius and Destiny stared ahead. I didn't know what was going through their minds. If anything was going through their minds at all. Knowing Falconer, she probably installed memory walls in their minds. They wouldn't be my Destiny and Darius. They would be shells of themselves, like Crispin. On
