Chapter 2

1025 Words
I was walking ahead of my dad, lost in thought when someone suddenly jumped out from the woods. I hadn't sensed it coming, and when I turned around, my father was nowhere to be seen. I lost consciousness immediately. I woke up sweating, finally remembering what happened. But what I still didn't understand was why I had been kidnapped. I had no idea of the time outside, but the sun was setting. I hadn't eaten anything the night before, and hunger gnawed at me. My wrists and my whole body ached from being tied up for so long. I didn't know what my fate would be. I might end up like the others who were prisoners of this Alpha, with my body never to be found or cremated. My stomach rumbled loudly; even people in the next room could probably hear it. Then, I heard footsteps and held my breath, expecting the worst. The door opened, and a large man entered, accompanied by a woman carrying a tray of food. I sighed in relief; at last, I would get to eat. The man approached and loosened the rope that bound me. "Eat, so you can regain your strength. You'll be meeting the Lord very soon," the man said in a hoarse tone. The woman gently placed the food in front of me but avoided eye contact. They both left the room, leaving me staring at the food, unsure of what to do. "Well, if this is how I'm going to die, so be it," I told myself before digging in. Surprisingly, I finished the meal, and death did not come. I sat still, straining my ears to hear sounds from outside. I hadn't yet mastered my abilities to hear from afar or read minds. I recalled the mention of meeting the Lord soon by the wolverine, and my body tensed at the thought of facing the Alpha. I hadn't had a personal experience with him, but he was a demon according to the stories we'd heard. He was the only wolf completely black in color with eyes that changed to golden. It was said that in ancient times, only the park's founder possessed golden eyes. I knew I would soon stand face to face with this demon wolf. I took a deep breath, rubbing my hands together to ease my anxiety. Standing up, I paced around the room to alleviate the tension. As I paced, I began to hear noises outside, howling and the sound of bones snapping. It seemed like a war had broken out, but I couldn't be sure. I ran out immediately, realizing that everyone was distracted. It was my clan! I had never felt both happiness and sadness simultaneously. Though small in number, my park was known for having some of the strongest wolves fit for battle. We had never fought against the Blood Moon Park, but we had defeated other parks that had crossed us. I searched for my brothers amidst the chaos, seeing dead wolves scattered around. While running, I collided with a human, the only human among the wolves. When he turned, my legs turned to jelly. It was the Alpha! I screamed mentally. He glared at me with fury in his eyes, immediately grabbed my wrist, and began walking towards one of the rooms in the main building. I couldn't resist; I knew any form of resistance meant instant death. Instead, I trembled, both from fear and the pain caused by his grip on my wrist. We finally entered a room that resembled a throne room. The Alpha released his grip on me, and I fell to my knees, immediately clutching my wrists as tears threatened to escape my eyes. "You can bring them in now," he said in his deep baritone voice as he stood up. He then grabbed me and placed me on his lap. I glanced around the room, but there was no one else present. Who was he talking to? "Calm down, darling. You'll soon find out who I'm talking to," he said soothingly while stroking my hair. Did he just read my mind? I wondered. "Yes, I did, and I'm still doing it," he replied to my unspoken question with a sly smile on his face. I remained silent and kept my gaze down. Fear still gripped me, and I hadn't even realized I was holding my breath until some people walked into the room. My dad and brother were pushed in by others, both bloodied and severely injured. My dad's face lit up upon seeing me. "Heaven," he called my name with a cracked voice, clearly in need of urgent medical attention. "Dad," I whispered and tried to stand up, but the Alpha pulled me back. "Heaven? Is that your name? I like it, 'My heaven in hell,'" he said while continuing to stroke my hair. "I like that," his voice whispered in my ear, and I couldn't help but wonder if he could read my thoughts. "What do you want me to do to your park now, hmm?" the Alpha asked, turning to my brother, Zekiel. "What do you think?" "I feel we should just kill them," Zekiel replied with a smirk. "We've already killed most of the males. Killing the Alpha and his two successors would add more glory to our name, don't you think?" "I like that," the Alpha responded thoughtfully. "But then again, I am not heartless." As he spoke, one of the people who had brought in my father burst into laughter. The Alpha raised an eyebrow, his expression unmoved. Instead, he smirked and asked, "Why are you laughing, Lucas?" "Clyde, you and I both know that you're a monster," Lucas said. "You do not have an ounce of humanity left in you." "Clyde?" I questioned inwardly. "I am Clyde," the Alpha responded once more to my unspoken question. Stories had it that at the mention of his name, there would be rumblings, but I had expected something more menacing. Clyde just didn't fit the image I had in my mind. "Well, it doesn't quite fit my image either," Clyde responded, still not looking at me.
