Chapter 3

"Well, let's get down to the business of why we are here, shall we, gentlemen and lady," Clyde said while still holding me on his lap. "Alpha of Ravenheart Park, you dared to bring your wolves to attack me? Why is that?" Clyde asked, feigning ignorance of their motives. "You held my only daughter captive, what did you expect?" my dad retorted, showing no fear. If I knew my father well, he would do anything to challenge Clyde. "You and your daughter were trespassing. I do not allow strangers into my territory. Once you step into my territory without an invitation, you are automatically a threat to my people and me," Clyde replied calmly. His calm demeanor made me wonder why he was called Ruthless; he seemed as composed as anyone could be. Or maybe, I was jumping to conclusions too soon. "I have been living here even before you were born. I know this woods like the back of my hand, and I can confidently say that I did not trespass," my dad responded, blood dripping from his mouth. "What you didn't know is that I conquered that land, and it automatically became mine, so you trespassed," Clyde's voice grew more stern this time, indicating rising anger. "You can't just go around claiming innocent people's land because you have the power. That doesn't make you a good leader. A good leader should be compassionate and not self-centered," my dad retorted in one breath. Lucas, one of the wolves who had brought my dad in, stepped forward and struck my dad, causing him to fall on his face. "Pops!" I screamed. "Lucas, no! You shouldn't have done that. I haven't reached the point of hitting, and besides, as he claimed, he's an elder," Clyde responded indifferently. By now, I was already crying heavily, and my brother remained kneeling quietly, his self-respect as the next Alpha of our park crushed. If my brother had a dagger right now, it would find its way into Clyde's heart. "Where were we?" Clyde asked. "Oh yes! That's right, nobody comes into my property unannounced or starts a war with me and leaves alive. But I don't want to kill you, that's if you would do what I want." "Never! We won't be your slaves! Kill me! Kill me, Clyde!" my father screamed hysterically. "No, calm down, Alpha," Clyde responded. "Like I said, I do not want to kill you. If I wanted you dead, the moment you and your soldiers walked into this park, you would have been dead." "You will have to live here, alive, but without your little princess," Clyde said calmly. "What?" my brother screamed. This was the first time my brother had spoken since we arrived. "Yes, you heard me. Your little sister and princess are going to be the price for your thoughtlessness," Clyde answered, pushing me off his lap. I sprawled on the floor, crying. It was clear that he meant to kill us all if we refused his offer. Clyde stood in front of my father and brother, asserting his condition. "This is my condition, and you must agree to it if you want to leave here without any trouble. As you can see, you're outnumbered, and I have a place to dispose off your bodies that nobody, not even the ancestors, can locate." "Never! I can't give my innocent daughter to you, beast, for any price, not in this world or the next," my father replied firmly. I had never seen this side of my father; he had always been a peace-loving man. I felt nothing but hatred for the man who had pushed my father to this level of anger. He truly was a heartless beast. Clyde punched my father in the face, causing him to spit out blood. He struck him again and again while I screamed, and my brother gnashed his teeth. "Please!" I screamed and rushed to shield my dad. "I will stay, just let them go." "No, Heaven," my dad weakly protested. "He can kill me, but he won't have you." "Alpha," I said, addressing Clyde, "I don't intend to let her go if I kill you. I just want you to leave her of your free will. I'll kill you and still have her," Clyde stated without hesitation. "Dad, go! I'll be fine, I promise. I don't want anything to happen to you because of me. Besides, we've lost the majority of our soldiers, and we can't afford to lose both the Alpha and his successors. Once he gets tired of me, I'll come back to you and Mom immediately. Zarin, convince Dad, tell him I'll be fine," I pleaded with my brother, who stared at me with tears in his eyes. "Yes, Dad, listen to your daughter," Clyde said mockingly. I now understood why he was called ruthless; his demonic side overshadowed any semblance of humanity. My dad let out a scream of frustration, no longer angry at anyone but himself. I knew my dad blamed himself for putting me in this position. If we had both stayed back at home, we wouldn't be in this predicament. "Clyde! I'm not scared of you, I hope you know that. Your threats, I am not scared of them. I'm only agreeing to this because of my daughter. But if anything happens to her, I'll find you and kill you," my dad declared. "Okay, Dad," Clyde responded and raised his two hands mockingly. I rolled my eyes at him, still unable to fathom what he intended to do with me. Lucas and Zekiel dragged my dad and brother out of the room, leaving me alone with Clyde. I remained seated on the floor, tears still streaming from my eyes. Clyde bent down and lifted my chin to look at him. "I will not harm you, that is if you give me reasons not to. You will get used to staying here, and you will come to love it," he said with a sly smirk on his face. "Mary!" a middle-aged woman hurried into the room and lowered her head. "Yes, my Lord?" she replied. "Take my little wolfie to the room meant for her," Clyde ordered before leaving the room. "Come on, let's go," Mary said as she helped me to my feet. I noticed that Mary was the same woman who had served me while I was still confined in that prison. I think Clyde knew that I wouldn't think of running away since he didn't order me to be tied up. While I had no intention of doing anything that would jeopardize my family's safety, I hoped my brother and father had made it home safely. As soon as I entered the room, I lay on the bed, the scenes from earlier replaying in my mind. Clyde punching my dad, his bloodied face – I cried and cried. Eventually, I wiped my tears and got up to prepare for whatever life as a "prize" to this Alpha would bring.
