Kate POV
I can’t believe she’s dead, such a young soul. Life is so unpredictable. We had
visitors over for lunch and this is what happens right outside my home. Oh,
I hope they don’t think this is what the neighbourhood is like. We live in an
upper-class community and it is normally very safe, and access is restricted in
this area. I wonder how or why she ended up here? I wonder who she was? The
Police wouldn’t tell us anything, as we aren’t family; at least they found the details
of someone to contact in her purse. This turned out to be an incredibly sad afternoon.
It was strange how Edward seemed to react around this whole incident.
Wesley and I both saw how weirdly he looked at her lifeless body, but then this
is not something you see every day.
Wes POV
My family is so shaken, it seemed the young lady from the accident was running
from something because she had bags and boxes in her car, or at least that’s what
our security guy said. I hope they get to the bottom of this. The officer shared
that she was some famous actors’ daughter; this is what money does when you
don’t know how to work with it. Poor family.
It was nice to meet the Kale Family yesterday, that Edward Kale is a strange man.
They have more money than sense. He kept talking about his possessions and assets, but at least they don’t have more money than I do, I am rich, if I do say
so myself.
Lilly’s POV
Dillan is really friendly. I like having new friends. We were all so sad about the
lady, Mummy, said she died. It was a really scary moment. Romeo touched my
hand and shocked my fingers, jeez that was weird. He has such big eyes, and he
is almost as strong as my brother. I heard Aunty Lisa saying that we have to visit
them next week. That will be fun.
Edward’s POV
I had an amazing lunch, I sure wish Lisa would get some cooking tips from Kate,
she made a wonderful meal. That is one rich family, although I have much more
money than Wes. I am pacing and trying to take my mind off things; I need to
sit down. Breathe Ed, breathe, maybe if I repeat this mantra to myself, I will calm
down. What was she thinking? What was she doing in that area? How did she
know? Calm down Ed, I tell myself again. I hope no one noticed my reaction.
SHIT!
5 years later
Romeo’s POV
Its Lilly’s birthday today and my dad insists that we go. She is fourteen years old
today and we have found her a gift, it took hours, and it was annoying. My mum
insists that we don’t show up empty handed. We haven’t seen them in almost a
year now, I don’t know why we need to go. I also have to cancel my date with my
girlfriend to attend a fourteen-year-old girl’s party; this is embarrassing, maybe I
can ask my mum if I could stay. Why didn’t I think about this sooner?
Romeo: “Mum, I’m supposed to be with Amy today, can I just stay
home? We haven’t been to their house in over a year, doesn’t it
feel weird to just show up now? Why did they invite us all of a
sudden?” I realise I am rambling.
Lisa (Romeo’s mum): “No, Romeo, you can’t stay at home, we are going and
that’s final, please don’t nag.”
Romeo: “Lilly is not my friend. Please, Mum?”
Lisa: “We are going as a family, Romeo; you always nag not to go
places, but when we get there, you have such a good time.”
Romeo: “Fine!” I am like a fourteen-year-old myself, I stomp off and put
on my jeans and a muscle top. Gym has paid off; my arms are
in shape and my six pack is almost showing.
Kate (Lilly’s mum): “Lilly, the Kale family will be here later, you still have
a few hours with your friends, but you need to spend time with
Romeo and Dillan and introduce them to your friends. You
guys can have the pool house for your sleepover, and William is
in charge, understood? So, enjoy your afternoon with the girls
and I will come and check on you guys later.”
Lilly: “Mum, you don’t need to check on us, Dad will be preparing
the food right above us so we will be okay. I will come up later
to fetch ‘our guest’, but no old people outside please.”
Kate: “Who are you calling old?”
Lilly: “You know what I mean.”
Kate: That child is going to send me to an early grave. She is wearing
a bikini, and her walking around like that makes me nervous,
but she is noticeably confident and strong-willed. I hope she is
smart too. Teenagers are so easily pressured to do certain things;
It’s not how it used to be in our days. She is at the right age
where boys will take advantage of her, and her body sure has
developed over the last six months. I am proud of her, don’t get
me wrong, I just hope she is careful and makes good choices.
I shake my head and finish making the salad when the phone
rings and it is the caterer.
Lisa’s POV
Oh, I hope Kate doesn’t mind us showing up so early, I am on an edge today.
Dillan is complaining he is tired, so we decide to let him rest in a guest room
when we get to Simon’s, he has been up studying all night. We arrive, knock, and
she answers the door. “Hi Kate, I hope you don’t mind that we came so early, I
just thought you might need help. I know what it’s like to host teenage parties.
Here, I made a salad, and we brought some wine.” She welcomes us in.
Kate: “Romeo, can you find William and Lilly for me, please?”
Romeo: “Sure, Aunt Kate.”
