Chapter 2: Captivated
[ Derek ]
Derek had lived in Beacon Hills all of his life, excluding the few years he'd left after the fire that exterminated the entire Hale family. Even during his return, he made it a priority to know his surroundings. The scents, the look of things, the feel, everything and the new scent his enhanced senses caught up on, was not one he was familiar with.
It was spicy, like cinnamon but not too strong to the point that it was overwhelming. On top of that, there was a faint scent of vanilla meshed in and it was a mouthwatering combination.
Whomever it was came in a car, that they parked and exited. She was beautiful to say the least. Blonde hair that brung out her bright blue eyes that looked innocent yet held a small glint of mischief that didn't seem to some out often. Her lips were a pretty pink, made perfect with a small pout.
The girl had a slim build, almost too slim which worried Derek slightly. As he watched her trudge through the woods, she was traveling to a part of the woods that a small human girl like her had no business trespassing. Sure, he'd lived in a abandoned trailer but Derek visited his old home on occasion, and she was walking in the direction of the burnt home.
"This is private property," Derek starts, catching the girls attention, her body jolting in surprise as she quickly turned to face him.
"S-sorry, I just moved here and I had no idea. I didn't mean to intrude." Her voice held a very thick accent, Australian to be exact.
"Who are you? Where you from?" Derek fired at her, his rough voice not as hostile as before.
"My name is Trinity Mitchell and I'm from Australia. I didn't mean to intrude, it's just the trees are very pretty here." The girl—Trinity, gestured around her to all the green trees that manifested around there, concealing the secrets that lived in Beacon Hills.
"They look pretty normal to me, you must have some pretty crap trees if these ones fascinate you so much." Derek internally cringed at his rudeness when finished speaking, but he knew better than to pity new people that entered the toxic town.
After a few moments of silence and her looking at Derek critically with her bright blue eyes. "The trees from where I used to live were fine, but because it's is such a busy area there weren't many forests. I guess I'm just not used to seeing so many of them at once, they bring back memories." A faint blush crossed against Trinity's tanned cheeks. "I-I didn't mean to evade your personal space."
Making an attempt to walk back to where she entered from, Derek stopped her by grabbing her wrist, her stance tensing immediately. "You can come to the woods whenever you want, just don't go alone. It can get pretty dangerous here, and I'd hate for you to get hurt?"
The blonde removed her wrist from his grip, seeming to not be comfortable with physical contact. "Why do you care if I got hurt? You don't even know me."
"You're right, I don't know you, but like I said Beacon Hills isn't the best place to be moving across the world to live in. You'd have done yourself a favor if you stayed in Australia."
A small frown appeared on her face. "That's not likely, but I must admit, aussie's are better at welcoming guests."
"Can't welcome anyone if you're lost in the woods all by yourself." Derek retorts, his brooding face not changing as the small girl tries to make a joke with him.
Ten years ago, before Kate Argent set his house on fire, burning werewolves and humans alive that lived inside of it, Derek would've greeting Trinity with a smile and a tour of the whole place, but things were different now and he had every reason to feel cautious around the new person.
"I'm sure I'll fine someone who won't mind helping." Looking down at her phone, her eyes skimmed a message that pulled up on her screen, heartbeat beating a tad faster. "Thanks heaps, I've got to get home. See you around—"
"Derek," He offered.
"Derek. See you around Derek." Trinity speed walked out off the woods, his enhanced hearing picking up on the smooth purr of the engine as she drove off.
He knew she wouldn't take his warning, no teenager would—even himself at that age would've found some way to sneak past and do the exact opposite.
But with a whole family of Argents on his back, their hands twitching to kill any wolf that they could find. The last thing he need is them mistaking Trinity for something she isn't.
