DREAMS
CHAPTER ONE
In a small town of Herneville, nestled between rolling hills and quint cottages, the birth of twins brought both joy and unforeseen circumstances.
The small modest house where the parents resided echoed with the cries of the infants.
Overwhelmed by the challenges of providing for two, the struggling parents faced an unthinkable decision.
“I don’t know if I should be happy or sad knowing I gave birth to a set of twins, we can’t afford to feed ourselves properly let alone two other mouths to feed, so I had to make this decision” she said with tears flowing from her eyes as she looked at her baby one more time.
“Times up Margaret, can I have the baby now”? a mysterious woman in finely tailored coat said already feeling bored of my last moment speech.
“can I at least hold my baby one more time” I pleaded
“Of course not, I’ve got no time to waste here” she replied harshly.
I handed my baby boy to her, even though I knew he would be well taken care of where ever he would be.
“Here is the money and don’t ever try to contact me again, remember you no longer have a connection with this child, he’s now mine” she said bluntly and handed over a black bag filled with money.
All her husband could do was to watch and cry in silence because he knew this was the only way at least one of his children could have a better life. His little fish farming business can’t feed everyone in the house, neither does she have a job to assist him.
The baby boy was whisked away from the warmth of his humble home, leaving behind a tearful mother and a perplexed father. Meanwhile the girl remained, growing up amid the modest means and genuine love of her biological parents.
Two decades passed, and the town transformed. The once small community had expanded.
Emily had grown and have become a full fledge woman, she always flung her dark curly hair in which every lady envied, with her big brown eyes which spoke more of her beauty. She looked exactly like her mother who is of average height, slender and has a dazzling skin.
And in another phase was a mansion that now housed the young man, unaware of his true origin, now in his 20’s. Richard grew up to be a handsome man, who screamed wealth wherever he goes too. As the heir to the Tyson’s empire which was a huge title attached to his fame, was very grumpy and hardly smiles.
For some reason he felt in complete and that has taken big toil on his attitude, he had almost same features as his sister but he carried most of his biological father’s features.
Mr. Tony was known to be a tall man with natural biceps but due to poverty, those biceps weren’t showing.
Luckily for Richard, he had gotten all those features with same curly dark hair and big brown eyes as his sister.
“Hey mum, can you drop by my office later today and drop the files, I would be in need of it” he said as he sat comfortably on his office chair.
“Alright baby I’ll send one of the workers right away to your office with your files” Mrs. Tyson replied.
“Mum I really don’t like it when you call me baby, I’m no longer a child, please quit saying that to me”
“you would always be my little baby Richard, concentrate on your work and don’t come back late, you know your dad doesn’t like it” she said finally and cut the call.
“Arrgh, this people need to know I’m no longer a child, I am a full fledge adult and they can’t predict how I should run my life” he said and angrily banged his fist on the table.
Richard was the second in charge of a big business firm in which his father owned and he has successfully expanded it which made his father proud of him.
Back to the once small town which has faded into obscurity, Emily was done with her secondary education after much struggling from her parents to put her through school and now she is aspiring to get admitted in college.
Emily has always wanted to become a doctor and has sworn to become one by all means. She doesn’t want her parents to suffer to train her throughout her college days so she made a big decision to go find a good paying job in another city.
“I know you guys aren’t happy about my sudden decision but it’s for our own good, so we could finally have a good life” I said looking at the devastated face of my parents as i couldn’t help but pity them.
“Emily, you really don’t have to travel to the city, I promise to worker harder” my dad replied enduring the hot tears burning down his throat.
“Your father is right I would even borrow if I have to but don’t leave us Emily” my mother said already crying.
“For how long are we going to continue borrowing, I don’t want to live that kind of life, we’ve suffered long enough and I think it’s time for us to be truly happy.
“All my life I’ve always struggled to get whatever I wanted I could only dream of having those things but can’t actually have them” I replied holding their hands tightly.
After much persuasion, they finally saw sense in what i was saying to them, with deep sadness and sorrow in their eyes, I honestly felt so bad having to leave them but I had to be strong for myself and for them.
This was the decision I had made and no going back. I had managed to save some of the money that was given to me for my lunch breaks. I’ve always had this plan right from secondary and I was patiently saving and waiting to finish secondary school and I was finally done.
Back at the Tyson’s house, Richard arrived home very late leaving his parents very worried.
“Hi dad, hi mum” he said casually as he got into the house.
“Why are you coming back this late Richard”?
“Are you aware of the time right now, it’s 2am” dad said angrily.
“Calm down honey, he’s still a child” mum said trying to calm her husband’s temper.
“what’s wrong with me coming back by this time dad” he asked hoping to get a reasonable answer.
“I’m sick of y’all trying to dictate how I should leave my life, I’m a freaking grown ass man, I can take care of myself “
“baby”……
“Mum, please quit calling me that” Richard said quickly interrupting his mum.
“As you can see I’m very tired and I need to have some rest”
“Excuse me” I said and walked out leaving my dad angrily calling out my name.
Ever since I was born, my parents had always been over protective of me which is currently driving me insane.
I could hear my mum trying to calm him down, even though her voice was very faint from upstairs.
I quickly freshened up and went to bed knowing fully well I have an important meeting to attend later that day.
“No, no, no”
“Who are you”?
‘’Show your face”
“why do you keep on appearing to me”?
Someone strange tried touching me and I couldn’t see the person’s face.
I woke up instantly I heard the birds chirping loudly and the sun had risen and shone brightly to its fullest as a new day had begun.
I was trying to reminisce over my frequent dreams, I can’t figure out why a strange person keeps appearing in my dreams.
“I felt as if the person had a lot to tell, and I haven’t disclosed to anyone about my dreams.
it’s all in your head Richard, try to cool off from all the stress from work and everything’s going be fine” he said to himself as he tried calming my nerves.
He hurriedly prepared for work and went downstairs to have his breakfast.
Mum and dad were already at the dining table as usual patiently waiting for me to come downstairs.
“Good morning” Richard greeted still angry about last night.
“how was your night honey” mum asked as she took a bite of the red apple she was holding.
“I slept fine” I replied knowing that was a fat lie.
‘’Son I am sorry for last night” my dad said
“I know you feel that I and your mother are over protective but it’s for your own good”
“you are the heir to the Tyson’s empire, you have many competitors out there.
“I’m just looking out for you as a father would” Dad concluded as he looked sorry for shouting at me.
“I know da…..”
I was immediately interrupted by mum’s coughing. It got serious that she coughed out blood, and fainted out of shock.
