DREAMS
CHAPTER TWO
In pursuit of my dreams, i ventured into the bustling city. The towering skyscrapers and beautiful buildings, the aroma of the city didn’t fail to leave me mesmerized.
“wow”! I exclaimed
“All my life I have been caged in that small town, I never knew there was something this beautiful out there” I said to myself as I admired the big beautiful buildings”.
I was finally at the big city of Antonio, a well renowned city known for its big buildings, historic architecture and music culture nestled against picturesque landscapes which offers a blend of modern amenities and a charming old world feel, making it an appealing destination for residents and visitors. One of my classmate’s father resided there and she always bragged about how her father buys her lots of gifts from the city.
“Guys.. guys, I have something to show you all” Ana said excitedly.
She stretched her hands and brought out a new phone from her fancy bag.
“wow” everyone shouted in union
“where did you get this phone from”? a girl that seemed to be the closest to Ana asked.
“I know you all are itching to know where I got this phone from, well my father came back from the big city Antonio yesterday and he got me this phone and so many other gifts she explained
“I really envy you Ana, I have been asking my dad for a phone ever since, all he could tell me was I have to finish my school before he gets me one” another girl at the back seat said already feeling bad.
All I could do at that moment was to wish I and parents lived in the big city, and now here I am trying to re-live those dreams.
“I had no idea where I was going to” I thought to myself as I got into a cab.
“Mum is going to be fine” Richard said as his dad kept pacing to and fro in the hospital.
“we just have to have patience son, I’m sure she’s going
be alright.” Dad replied feeling worried.
‘’This was the first time I saw my mum in this condition, I really hope she’s alright” he said to himself.
Immediately the doctor came out of the ICU [ Intensive Care Unit] with a moody expression on his face.
“Doctor what’s wrong with my mum” Richard asked feeling agitated.
“The cause of the vomiting of blood was due to food poisoning, we found some disturbing substances in her system which refused to digest and has given her liver some minor wounds and that was the reason she coughed out blood and passed out.
“what”!! he exclaimed
“Not to worry she’s going to be alright, all she needs is enough rest” the doctor concluded.
‘’can we at least go and see her’’? dad asked.
“I’m sorry Mr. Tyson, you can’t see her for now till she has regained consciousness “The doctor replied hastily and left leaving the both of us speechless.
I couldn’t help but feel a little bit disoriented, the city was so big and bustling with activities and I clearly had no idea where I was going to and whom to talk to
“I thought I had it all planned out, I was greatly mistaken” i said to myself as I got out of the cab
Just as I was about gathering my bags from the cab, I noticed something very unusual. The taxi driver, who seemed to be in a hurry came out of the taxi and handed my bag over to me.
I was still lost in thoughts of where I should go from here, when I heard a squeaky sound coming from me, I looked at my bag and what I saw made me puzzled.
It was a bright pink bag covered in stickers and filled to the brim with ….. Rubber ducks? I was so confused and surprised at the same time, I glanced back at the taxi driver who had already driven away.
“Oh Emily how could you be foolish enough not to have noticed it wasn’t your bag , I immediately remembered my purse which I carefully placed at my back pocket.
“On the brighter side I’ve got my purse and money with me. “I said to myself feeling a little hopeful.
Everywhere I went to attracted attention with all the squeaky embarrassing noises coming from the rubber ducks, I could not help but chuckle in absurdity of the situation. Who knew my first encounter in the city would involve a bag full of rubber ducks.
The sun dipped below the horizon, casting long shadows across narrow alleyways. Lost in the labyrinthine streets, I felt a growing unease.
As darkness deepened, the city’s neon lights flickered to life, creating a surreal atmosphere. I quickened my pace, desperation setting in. The echoes of my footsteps mingled with distant laughter, emphasizing my solitude and my rubber ducks weren’t helping matters.
In the dimly lit alley, I hesitated, unsure of which turn to take, a chill ran down my spine as I sense a presence behind me. I was startled and I immediately turned around to find nothing but empty shadows. Anxiety gnawed at me as I continued, the cityscape becoming a maze of uncertainty.
Suddenly, a distant honk and screeching tires echoed through the narrow streets. My heart raced I glimpsed headlights bearing down on me. Panic set in, and time seemed to slow. I tried to evade the upcoming vehicle, but the dark alleys offered no escape.
The car struck me with a sickening thud, sending me sprawling onto the cold pavement. Pain surged through my body as I fought to stay conscious. The world blurred as concerned faces surrounded me, voices overlapping in a disorienting symphony.
Sirens wailed in the distance, growing louder as my vision dimmed. The intense scene left a haunting impression on the witnesses, each of them connected by the unexpected collision that has shattered the quiet of the night.
As my consciousness teetered on the edge, the city’s heartbeat pulsed around me- a cacophony of distant sirens, hushed whispers and the haunting glow of neon lights.
In the midst of the chaotic aftermath, I felt a strange detachment from the unfolding drama. The city’s sound became muffled, and my senses blurred as if caught in a surreal dream. A medley of concerned voices swirled around me, but their words were distant echoes.
Paramedics arrived, their urgency contrasting with the surreal atmosphere. They worked swiftly to stabilize me, their faces masked by a combination of concern and professional detachment. As they loaded me into the ambulance, the city’s lights painted a kaleidoscope bon vehicle’s exterior-a fleeting glimpse of a world I was leaving behind.
The ambulance raced through the city streets, its siren wailing a haunting melody. My consciousness ebbed and flowed, caught between the fragments of reality and an elusive dreamscape. Unseen forces seemed to tug at me, weaving a tapestry of uncertainty.
In the hospital’s stark white room, i awoke to the hum of machines and the antiseptic scent of sterile surrounding. Tubes and wires connected me to unfamiliar apparatus, emphasizing my vulnerability. A curtain of unanswered questions hung over me, leaving me to grapple with the fragments of memory.
Visitors filled in and out, faces with expressions ranging from relief to guilt. They spoke in hushed tones, carefully choosing their words as if navigating a delicate dance around the enigma of my accident. Each visitor left behind a trail of unanswered queries leaving me with a profound sense of isolation.
As I pieced together the events leading to the accident, a chilling realization crept over me-the rubber duck encounter, the city of Antonio, the collision- all elements of a narrative that transcended mere coincidence. The city held secrets, and I found myself at the center of a web woven from the threads of the unknown.
In the stillness of the hospital room, my mind became a canvas for contemplation. The city outside the window pulsed with life, its mysteries echoing with me.
In the dimly lit hospital corridor, my room stood as quiet enclave, shrouded in the aftermath of my mysterious accident. As I grappled with the fragments of my memory, a hushed conversation unfolded outside my door. i wondered in my thoughts who that voice belonged to. I knew for sure the voice belonged to a man, the enigmatic figure who had seemingly played a role in my collision, and a nurse exchanging urgent whispers.
Their words became clearer as the door creaked open ajar, revealing a man of poise and affluence, the weight of seeing this unknown man hung heavy in the air, casting a pall over the already tense atmosphere of the hospital.
The man’s stoic exterior cracked, revealing the mixture of guilt and concern etched across his face. The hospital’s sterile walls became witnesses to a silent confrontation between me and the unknown man, both bound by the threads of fate that had woven us together.
