DREAMS CHAPTER THREE My gaze bore into his eyes, seeking answers and understanding. His attempts to articulate apologies and explanations were met with a profound silence from me, my emotions were like a tumultuous sea beneath a calm surface. “I’m very sorry for putting you in this condition, I need you to trust me it wasn’t intentional, I just lost control over my breaks for a while and then this happened” he said feeling very guilty. I couldn’t say anything to him as I tried to digest whatever that happened to me hours ago. I could see guilt and pity all over his face, at least he dimmed it fit to rush me to the hospital immediately. He saw I didn’t utter a word and he didn’t want to make the situation difficult for him to handle, he quietly left my room without speaking further. I was happy that there were still good people in this world, just then a sudden realization dawned on me “I really need to contact my parents, they must be so sick and worried about me” I said to myself. In the hush corridors of the hospital, Mr. Tyson moved with a sense of purpose, his steps echoing the weight of unspoken secrets. Richard was getting suspicious with a keen sense of observation, noticed his father’s frequent detours during their visits to the hospital. The unspoken tension in Mr. Tyson’s demeanor piqued his curiosity, and he decided to discreetly follow his father. As Mr. Tyson entered the room where Emily was recovering, Richard lingered in the shadows. His gaze fixed on the unfolding scene. The room bathed in soft glow of medical monitors, revealed a side of his father that he had never witnessed-an unspoken connection with a stranger. Emily, unaware of Mr. Tyson’s Identity, finally exchanged polite conversation with him, their paths crossing in the complex tapestry of the hospital. Meanwhile, Richard grappled with the realization that his father had been harboring a secret, one that extended beyond the challenges they faced as a family. The clandestine meetings continued, each encounter adding another layer of complexity to the delicate balance his father sought to maintain. As Emily’s recovery progressed, Richard wrestled with conflicting emotions, torn between loyalty to his family and the intrigue of the mysterious woman who seemed to hold a significant place in his father’s world. “Dad has been hiding a lot from me and I would find out who that person he visits often” he said to himself as he paced to and fro in the hospital corridor”. “Mum would be discharged tomorrow and I can’t let her witness dad’s uncalled behavior, I think that stranger has trapped dad in his or her claws and I won’t let that happen” “Never” he said to myself. In the sterile hospital waiting area, Emily’s thoughts were a whirlwind of confusion and pain. As she lay on her hospital bed, a nurse approached her, carrying a clipboard with a mix of sympathy and reluctance etched on her face. She hesitated before finally revealing a piece of information that added an unexpected layer to Emily’s ordeal. “Miss Emily,” the nurse began “There’s something you should know. The man involved in the accident, Mr. Tyson, has a wife admitted here as well but she would be discharged tomorrow.” She concluded. As Emily absorbed this revelation, a sense of surreal coincidence hung in the air. “Mr. Tyson must be going through a lot I’m glad his wife is getting discharged tomorrow at least that would ease the burden he is carrying at the moment” I said to myself. “Nurse can you please give me your phone I would like to make a phone call to my family” I said. “sure Emily you can have it’” she replied and handed over the phone to me. I dialed my mom’s number and she wasn’t answering her calls, I also decided to try my dad’s number and he was also not picking. “Thanks nurse” I said as I handed the phone over to her. Honestly I was really worried about them because I left them in a compromising manner, I remember vividly when I was still in my town. “It’s really not necessary to go the city Emily, things would get better, honey please talk to your daughter” my mum said as she cried bitterly. “Emily dear” my dad began “I won’t stop you since you’ve decided to go to the city, I just need you to be careful” he said and I could see helplessness in his eyes. My father has always been a quiet man, he doesn’t always have a say to some certain situations which was quite surprising to me but I was already used to seeing him like that. In the following days Mrs. Tyson has been discharged and Mr. Tyson still secretly comes to the hospital to see Emily, veiled by the shadows of his own silence. The hospital corridors became a labyrinth of emotions for both Emily and Mr. Tyson. Meanwhile, Richard grappled with the inner turmoil of unraveling a mystery that seemed to be intertwined. As Emily’s strength grew, she became more perceptive to the subtle shifts in Mr. Tyson’s demeanor during his visits. A shared glance, a fleeting expression-tiny fragments that hinted at a connection beyond the superficial encounters in the hospital room. Unaware of the familial ties, Emily couldn’t shake the feeling that Mr. Tyson held a deeper stake in her recovery. While Richard is bent on finding out his father’s secret and the growing urge to understand the mysterious woman’s role in their lives, found himself at a crossroads. His curiosity clashed with the loyalty he felt towards his father, creating a silent tension that mirrored the hospital’s sterile corridors. “Today would be the day I would find out whom my father has been visiting at the hospital, i have not been able to concentrate for days in the office all because of this woman, whoever she is, she is surely bent on diverting my father’s attention from us and I would have to stop her. Mr. Tyson arrived at the hospital with Richard following him secretly. His father got to Emily’s room and after they had exchanged pleasantries with each other, they soon engaged in a seemingly ordinary conversation, Richard chose to confront his father about the hidden visits, just then he heard a voice that stopped him instantly. “Good day Mr. Richard” the nurse who was in charge of Emily greeted as she seemed surprised to see him. “Good day” he replied in a low husky voice as he didn’t want his father to know he followed him secretly. ‘’I have a favor to ask from you” I said still in a low voice. “Don’t tell my father I was here, that’s all I ask” he said and handed her some money to keep her mouth shut. “Alright sir” she replied and immediately accepted the money. The day of Emily’s discharge arrived by a mix of anticipation and uncertainty. Mr. Tyson, feeling a sense of responsibility for her well-being, decided to bring her home since she had nowhere to go. As Emily gathered her belongings in the hospital room, Mr. Tyson entered with a reassuring smile. “Emily, I understand you don’t have a place to go but if you are comfortable, you can stay with us for a while. We have a spare room, and it’s the least I can do after what happened’. Gratitude and trepidation warred within me as I accepted his offer. “I guess all that occurred happened for a reason” I said to myself as I rejoiced over the offer. In the living room of the Tyson residence, an unspoken tension hung in the air as Mr. Tyson and Emily entered. Mrs. Linda Tyson, a no nonsense woman who only cares about her family. She forced a smile which concealed an undercurrent of disapproval on seeing Emily, and Richard’s folded arms reflected his skepticism. “Linda, Richard, this is Emily. She had an accident and I thought we could offer her some shelter” Mr. Tyson explained, attempting to diffuse the palpable unease. Mrs. Tyson gave her husband a kind of meet me in the room look in which Mr. Tyson knew what he was going in for. “Honey, this isn’t a shelter home, why don’t you take her to anyone around, I mean why bring her here”? Mrs. Tyson asked already pissed. “Honey don’t be like that she doesn’t have anywhere to go” “And how’s that our concern, we didn’t bring her to this city” she responded angrily. “Have you forgotten that I was recently discharged from the hospital, I survived food poisoning and we clearly don’t know who she is and what her ulterior motives are, do you just go about hospitals bringing strangers into the house all because they got into an accident?” “Let me remind you that you go out a lot with your friends and so one of them must have poisoned you, don’t go about finding whom to blame for your carelessness. “But honey” “No buts, this is my house and Emily is staying here and that’s my final decision” he concluded and left the room leaving his angry wife. The Tyson’s reluctance cast a shadow over the welcoming atmosphere Mr. Tyson had hoped for. Emily, sensing the frosty reception, felt a wave of discomfort wash over her.
