When I opened the door, my heart nearly jumped out of my chest. Timothy stood there, calm and smiling, as if nothing about this night carried the weight of what Nathan and I were about to tell him.
“Hey, sorry I am late,” he said as he stepped inside and kissed my cheek. “Traffic was a nightmare,” I tried to smile, even though my hands were shaking slightly.
“It is fine. You are right on time, actually,” I said just as Nathan came out of the kitchen, his expression neutral, but his eyes gave him away. He was nervous, just like me.
“Hey, man,” Nathan said as they shared a quick hug. “Glad you made it,”
“Wouldn’t miss it,” Timothy said easily. “Smells amazing in here. What did you make?”
“Lasagna,” I said, my voice steadier now. His grin widened.
“Perfect. My favorite,”
