Ethan studied the cliff wall, considering each possible solution before discussing with Emily: “First, let’s try letting you climb up on your own.”
Then he looked at Lucas above: “I’ll hold the rope down here. You all make sure to hold the rope tight at the top. If it doesn’t work, we’ll switch to another plan.”
“Call Eric and Mary over to help hold the rope. You can’t do it alone, it’s too easy to slip.”
Lucas immediately ran off to call: “Eric, Mary, come over here and help pull Ethan and Emily up! It’s dangerous without enough people holding the rope!”
Moments later, both Eric and Mary arrived at the edge of the cliff. Eric scowled: “Why all the racket so early in the morning?” Mary simply crossed her arms, watching cautiously but still stepped forward to take the rope with Lucas.
