Chapter 1: After Being Betrayed, The Cruise Ship Encountered A Tsunami!
“Honey, come here, let me kiss you!”
“You’re so naughty!”
“You came running over here, aren't you afraid that brat will find out?”
“Hmph, that guy sleeps like the dead. Right now, it’s just you and me here. If it weren’t because he had talent, even if you killed me, I wouldn't bother dating him.”
The room wasn’t soundproof, so the conversation could be heard from outside. Moreover, those two inside hadn’t even properly closed the door, allowing the outsider to catch every single word clearly. Ethan stood outside the door, indeed hearing every sentence without missing a beat.
Emily was his girlfriend, yet now she was inside manager Eric’s room, speaking intimately with him, even the sound of their kissing was distinct. This luxury cruise trip was organized by the company, how did it become a scene of such obscene debauchery?
Moreover, her words were like blades stabbing directly into his heart. She was simply using him and never had any sincere thoughts of love. He’d worked at this company for three years and had been dating Emily for two. How could she coldly say she was only exploiting him? If it hadn’t been for the noise she made when sneaking out, waking him up, he wouldn’t have known she’d left to secretly meet her lover.
Connecting this to past incidents, Emily had been the one proactively approaching him, soothing and coaxing him, but in truth, she never once allowed him past the boundary of holding hands, let alone kissing. She always claimed to be chaste, insisting adult matters should wait until after marriage. Thus, he’d believed her to be pure-hearted, the moonlight he treasured within his heart.
Because of love and trust, he did everything for her. Difficult projects and challenging proposals, he took care of them all in her place. She only had to sit idly and reap the benefits. So, this was what she’d always intended. From a mere intern, in just two short years, she climbed to the position of deputy manager. He’d still thought she genuinely loved him, and even after rising to a high position, she’d never looked down upon him. It seemed she had simply been too skilled at acting.
Now he understood clearly why Eric had frequently reprimanded him despite him making no mistakes, blaming him for project failures, only for Emily to step in afterward, appearing as if she were always saving him from trouble. She maintained the image of someone who willingly endured punishment on his behalf, someone who’d sacrifice herself for him. Now it was clear those two bastards were merely putting on a show. They used his accomplishments to elevate themselves, while he idiotically rejoiced in believing he’d secured a thoughtful, kind-hearted girlfriend.
He’d truly been too naive. Back then, he was born in a mountain, where the terrain was rugged, and he’d nurtured a passion since childhood for studying geology, biology, and nature. As he grew older, not wishing to waste his talents, he’d come to the city to study and work. He had excelled at university, graduating two years early, surpassing peers of his age, and even those ten years his senior. Yet, because of that girlfriend, he’d willingly buried his brilliance underground, not wanting to shine too brightly, and in the end, what he received was only deceit.
“Damn it! So, you’ve just been treating me like a scapegoat all along?”
Ethan punched his fist onto the railing of the ship’s deck. He’d now moved to another spot, unwilling to listen any longer to that filthy nonsense from inside the room. It wasn’t because he was cowardly and didn’t dare expose them, but simply because it wasn’t worth it. With his true capability, those two would never have a chance to rise again in the future.
He’d continue playing the obedient fool, devotedly performing every task. But ultimately, that would only serve to bury those two even deeper. When the time came, he only needed to deliver one final blow, ensuring they’d never lift their heads again.
His mind churned with countless schemes for revenge, each plan leading to a thoroughly unexpected end. He felt satisfied with his own cleverness, licking his lips as he gazed into the distance. The love he’d given had been betrayed, and it truly hurt him deeply. Yet sometimes he still wondered if Emily sincerely apologized, perhaps he would give her one last chance.
However, before he could dwell further, the ship suddenly began shaking, rocking more and more violently. From afar came the sounds of his colleagues’ panicked screams.
Ethan was bewildered by what was happening. Just moments ago, the sky was clear, the clouds white, and the ocean calm without a single ripple. Why had the ship suddenly started pitching and rolling like this? But right afterward, the sky abruptly darkened, storm clouds rapidly gathered, and the sea surged into enormous waves as though aiming to swallow the entire ship.
Yet, this wasn’t a small vessel. He’d overheard somewhere that the total area of this three-story cruise ship was over ten thousand square meters. Was it reasonable for it to tilt so dramatically? Not to mention, the ship stood at least twenty-five, thirty meters tall, yet now the cresting waves were equally towering. Was this a tsunami? Could it really appear so suddenly and violently?!
But Ethan had no time to consider more, now the deck was inundated with seawater. Waves crashed continuously against the hull, causing the deck to warp and distort. He could only desperately grip onto the railing to hold himself steady.
He truly couldn’t fathom why he was so unlucky. Just after discovering his girlfriend’s betrayal, a tsunami suddenly came roaring in. Was fate trying to tell him he wasn’t allowed to take revenge, forcing him instead to obediently remain a pawn for others’ use?
Not just himself, Ethan saw many of his colleagues swept off into the sea right before his eyes. At this rate, survival seemed nearly impossible. He knew how to swim, indeed, he was an excellent swimmer, but plunging into the ocean in this chaos, would he even survive? And even if he did survive, how could he make it back to land? This place was dozens of kilometers from the shore, no matter how skilled he was at swimming, it was impossible to swim that far.
But, as if heaven fulfilled his thoughts, the railing snapped and was instantly ripped away, hurling him into the raging ocean amidst monstrous waves. In mere moments, the wave’s crest slammed down upon him like a collapsing mountain, mercilessly forcing Ethan’s body deep beneath the ocean’s surface. He felt as though someone had used tons of giant hammers to pound directly onto his back, all sounds vanished into the deafening roar of blood and seawater in his ears. His chest felt ready to burst open. Ethan no longer knew whether he was drifting or falling... all he could sense was thickening darkness and the terrifying weight pressing him deeper and deeper into the depths…
