The ballroom was busy and livelier than most. Decked out with garlands of Autumn leaves and orange roses. Chatter and interspersed laughter broke out from collected groups of friends and colleagues. This was not an open event for all nobility, instead a celebration organized by the King in thanks to the Knights and higher ranking officers within his army. Only those who had served, or served still were welcome to attend along with their legal spouses. As such, it was a merrier, less formal event than most. There were no mothers seeking suitable husbands for their daughters, though George was certain many a Court’s matron would have paid a fortune to attend.
