Chapter 18 An hour later, the rain had let up. As much as Caro would have loved to linger, Henry’s valet was bound to return before long. And so she dressed herself in her damp gown, and they climbed into a hackney carriage to take her home. As soon as they were settled into the carriage, holding hands, Caro laughed. “I suppose we should discuss my sister’s amulet. How do you want to proceed? I think we should go to Bow Street first thing in the morning, and—” Henry shook his head. “We can’t go to Bow Street. Not yet.” “Whyever not? We saw the artifacts with our own eyes and even heard the thieves talking about their difficulties convincing people the pieces aren’t stolen. Surely we have enough evidence—” “They spoke of a new contact. The man who will be waiting at the British Museum.
