Chapter 1: The CEO Who Had Everything
"Miss Aurora Hayes! Over here!" "Congratulations on becoming the youngest CEO to enter the Global Top Ten!" "Miss Hayes, how does it feel to own the world's largest agricultural technology company at only twenty-eight?" Aurora Hayes smiled politely, her long black gown shimmering beneath the crystal chandeliers. Her confidence and elegance captivated everyone in the room, yet the smile on her lips never reached her eyes. "Success isn't measured by wealth," she answered calmly. "It's measured by how many lives you can change." Thunderous applause erupted throughout the ballroom. Tonight marked another milestone in her extraordinary life. She had just been crowned Businesswoman of the Year, and her company, Green Future Technologies, had signed a billion-dollar international partnership to combat climate change and food shortages. To the world, Aurora Hayes was perfection. Beautiful. Brilliant. Powerful. Untouchable. But only she knew the truth. When the applause faded and the cameras stopped flashing, silence returned to her heart. Three hours later... The city glittered beneath the floor-to-ceiling windows of Aurora's office on the ninety-eighth floor. Her assistant, Emma, knocked softly before entering. "Miss Hayes, everyone has gone home. You should rest too." Aurora looked up from the reports scattered across her desk. "Did the drought relief supplies arrive in East Africa?" Emma nodded. "They arrived this afternoon." A faint smile appeared on Aurora's face. "Good." Emma hesitated before asking, "Why do you always care more about strangers than yourself?" Aurora closed the report. "When I was little, my parents died during a natural disaster. If someone had reached them in time..." Her voice grew softer. "Maybe I wouldn't have grown up alone." Emma lowered her head. "I'm sorry." Aurora shook hers gently. "Don't be. It made me who I am." Emma smiled sadly before leaving the office. The moment the door closed, the room became painfully quiet. Aurora stood before the glass window overlooking the city. Millions of lights sparkled below. Millions of people. Yet she had never felt so alone. People admired her. People respected her. People feared her. But no one truly loved Aurora Hayes. She laughed bitterly. "Maybe love really isn't meant for someone like me." At exactly midnight... The lights in her office flickered. Once. Twice. Then everything went dark. Aurora frowned. "Power outage?" Suddenly— BOOM! A deafening sound echoed through the building. The entire office shook violently. The glass windows trembled. Her computer screens turned on by themselves. One after another. Bright golden words slowly appeared. Searching for Suitable Host... Aurora's heartbeat quickened. "What is this?" Before she could move, another line appeared. Host Confirmed. Name: Aurora Hayes Occupation: CEO Compatibility: 100% A cold mechanical voice echoed inside the empty office. "Congratulations, Host." "The Gaia Survival System has chosen you." Aurora stepped backward. "Who's there?" No one answered. Instead... A glowing blue screen materialized before her eyes. GAIA SURVIVAL SYSTEM Mission World: Kingdom of Elaria Current Status: Severe Drought Population Survival Rate: 13% Main Mission: Prevent the extinction of the kingdom. Failure Penalty: Death. Success Reward: Unknown. Aurora stared at the floating screen. "This has to be a joke..." The System replied immediately. "This is not a simulation." "Host has thirty seconds to accept the mission." A countdown appeared. 30... 29... Aurora rubbed her temples. "I'm hallucinating." 28... 27... She reached for her phone. No signal. The city outside had disappeared. Darkness swallowed everything beyond the windows. The office was no longer overlooking skyscrapers. Only endless blackness remained. Aurora's breathing became uneven. "What... is happening?" The countdown continued. 10... 9... The mechanical voice spoke again. "Warning." "Mission refusal will result in immediate death." Aurora laughed nervously. "So I either accept... or die?" Silence. Then one word appeared. Correct. She closed her eyes. If this was a dream... She would wake up eventually. If it wasn't... Running wouldn't change anything. Aurora opened her eyes and whispered, "I accept." The moment the words left her lips, the blue screen exploded into countless streams of golden light. The entire office trembled. A massive golden clock appeared above her. Its hands spun wildly. Faster. Faster. Faster. Until time itself seemed to shatter. Aurora felt the floor disappear beneath her feet. She screamed as her body was pulled into a tunnel of blinding light. The last thing she heard was the System's emotionless voice. "Mission Accepted." "Transporting Host to the Kingdom of Elaria..." "Good luck, Aurora Hayes." Darkness consumed her. When Aurora opened her eyes again, burning heat scorched her skin. A dry wind carried sand across her face. She slowly sat up. Before her stretched a cracked, endless land. The earth was split apart. The rivers had vanished. Dead trees stood like skeletons beneath a merciless sun. In the distance, she heard the faint cry of a child. Aurora's heart tightened. The System's voice echoed once more. "Welcome, Host." "Your first mission begins now."
