Chapter 3: The New Teacher

After he finished introducing himself, Hedi crossed his arms and examined the room. The girls in the class squealed out of excitement when they heard what Hedi said. A handsome teacher for a change. Who wouldn't want that?

"If you have any concerns or questions, raise them now before I start with our lesson," Hedi stated. Not long after he finished speaking, Xia, who was curious about the new teacher, raised her hand.

"Yes Xia. Do you have any questions?" Hedi asked. Xia cleared her throat before speaking. "How old are you, Mr. Hedi? You seem too young to be a teacher," Xia asked, and the others agreed with what she said.

Hedi almost choked at what Xia asked. Although she just used 'Mr.' for formality, it was his first time being called like that. "Since you told me I look young, why call me Mr.?" Hedi asked. Hedi noticed Xia didn't know how to answer his question, so he just shook his head. Although Hedi is a bit baffled, he can't blame the girl since most of the teachers in Cypress are in their early thirties.

Knocking some sense into his mind, Hedi clicked his tongue and sighed before speaking. "I prefer to be called Sir for formality, or just Hedi. After all, I'm only two years older than you," Hedi added, which made the crowd gasp.

"Two years older? Then you're 20?" Xia asked, which Hedi answered with a nod. The students were still shocked upon learning about Hedi's age.

"Aren't you supposed to be still in college like us?"

"Yeah right! My brother is 20 years old but he's still in college."

"How come you're already teaching?"

The students who still weren't convinced about Hedi's age kept throwing questions at him. Hedi placed his index finger on his lips, gesturing for everyone to be silent, in which everyone followed. "Slow down everyone. It's near 10 o'clock. I'm supposed to be teaching already." The students groaned at what he said.

Fuyi, who began being curious about the new teacher, raised her hand. Without waiting for Hedi's go signal, Fuyi started speaking. "I think it's better if we all get to know each other first, Sir Hedi. After all, it's your first day here." The class agreed with what Fuyi had said.

The students started persuading Hedi not to teach on his first day. In exchange, Hedi had to tell them more about himself. Looking at the whole class, Hedi realized that nobody would be interested in his lesson, since they were probably more curious about him. It's my first day anyway.

"Alright then, let's get to know each other first," Hedi retorted to the pleas of the whole class with a faint smile. The students were overjoyed with Hedi's response. "Although I think the topic would only be me since I know all of you already," Hedi added, which made the whole class silent.

"I noticed that earlier!" one of the girls stated. "You knew who Fuyi and Xia were," the girl added. Now that the girl said it, the others, especially Xia and Fuyi, realized that Hedi had been calling them by their names, even though it was their first time meeting him.

"I also know your name Chanel," Hedi stated. "I also know Devon and his seatmate Sofia..." Hedi trailed off and pointed at the people behind Fuyi. "That's Sejun and Caleb. On their left are Maria and Jonathan, followed by Kensley and Jingjing. Do I need to continue this?" Hedi added, which amazed the class.

The students nodded their heads in agreement and Hedi started calling their names one by one. The class were shocked as their new teacher completed pointing out everyone along with their names. Their old teacher who had been teaching them for months barely even remembered each and everyone of them.

Looking at the curious expression plastered on everyone's face, Hedi gave a small smile before speaking. "I studied all of your information earlier before coming here. I can't come empty handed," Hedi stated and shrugged. The students gave Hedi a thumbs up before clapping. Hedi just chuckled and shook his head.

"It's almost time for your break. Let's wrap things up. I'll answer one of the questions you raised earlier." Hedi cleared his throat before speaking. "I graduated when I was 18 years old, that's why I'm teaching here already," Hedi stated. " However, I'll only stay here until they find a new replacement for the previous teacher," he added. And upon hearing that, the class suddenly felt gloomy.

"Why won't you stay here Sir?" Kensley asked. "I'm only here because Uncle Smirnov asked me to do so and..." Hedi trailed off and stared at Fuyi, who had been quiet ever since he came. Fuyi stared back at Hedi curiously, which made the latter smile. "I have something to handle here," Hedi added, which made Fuyi's heart thump hard. I think I'm sick.

The bell rang, which made everyone snap back into their senses. "All of you may take your break now," Hedi stated. He stood up and walked towards the door. But before leaving, Hedi looked at Fuyi and said, "Ms. Zhao, please follow me to my office. Now." With that he walked away.

"What was that for?" Xia asked Fuyi, who was dumbfounded by what Hedi had said. "I don't know either," Fuyi replied. Devon looked at Fuyi, and wanted to know what happened, but Fuyi only gave him a shrug. If I knew, I would've told you already.

Fuyi was lost in her thoughts when she remembered what happened on the stairs earlier. Her mouth formed an 'o' upon her realization. She does hope that it's not the reason she's being called to the office. But what else could it be? Will he make me pay medical fees?

"So where is his office?" Fuyi asked her friends, but both of them just shrugged. "Just go out now and follow him," Xia stated while fixing her bag. Devon nodded in agreement as he crossed his arms and smugly looked at Fuyi and said, "If he's still there. Lucky you." Fuyi's eyes went wide when she realized it had been a few minutes since Hedi left.

"If Jayden asks where I am, just tell him I'll be at the clubhouse after 20 minutes or less. I'm leaving. I'll follow you both later." Fuyi quickly grabbed her bag before running out of the classroom.
