CHAPTER 7

"REGINA, what happened here? I heard Fabian shouting." The door suddenly swung open and Auntie Davie emerged with a look of concern on her face. However, upon seeing Fabian peacefully asleep on the bed, she seemed to breathe a sigh of relief. Meanwhile, Regina was sitting on the side, staring at Fabian. She sighed. "His mood suddenly changed earlier, Auntie. He was shouting and saying he didn't want to get better and just wanted to die," Regina told Auntie Davie. The latter smiled sadly. "Fabian is going through a tough time. I really hope he can overcome all of this." "He will get through it. For now, it's difficult. But I believe that he will eventually recover from the pain he's feeling because of what happened," Regina said, glancing at Fabian, tears dried on his cheeks. Regina didn't leave Fabian alone in the room even as he slept. Just as he woke up, his physical therapist arrived. Throughout the session, Fabian remained silent. "You're doing great, Mr. Iglesias. Soon enough, you'll be well and walking properly," the therapist remarked after the session. Regina glanced at Fabian, who remained silent. He just released a sigh and then walked from the sofa to the bed. The session took place inside Fabian's room as he didn't want to leave. It had been three weeks since the accident, and although he had been discharged from the hospital, Fabian had yet to leave his room. "I want to rest. I want to be alone," he said in a cold voice. Regina then turned to the therapist and expressed her gratitude. "Thank you, Sir," Regina said, escorting the therapist back to the first floor. Afterwards, as Regina was about to return upstairs, she ran into Bettina. She smiled at her. Bettina greeted her too. "It's your second day today. Alex and I are betting on how long you'll last here," referring to another helper in the mansion. "I will stay here until Fabian gets better," Regina declared. "Do your best, Regina. I'm counting on you!" Bettina winked at her before leaving. Regina proceeded upstairs, climbing the stairs and heading straight to Fabian's room. She knocked on the door. Despite receiving no response, she entered the room. Unlike earlier, Fabian wasn't in his bed this time. Regina searched the entire room and found him sitting on a chair on the balcony. She cleared her throat to get his attention. "Are you hungry, Fabian? Do you want something to eat?" Regina asked in a gentle tone. There was no response from the young man. He just stared into nothingness. After a while, she heard him speak. "Thank you for comforting me earlier. But forget about it. Forget that I cried in front of you," he said in a cold voice. "There's nothing wrong with crying when the burden becomes too heavy to bear. Just cry until the weight in your heart is lifted," Regina replied. It was what she did when her parents passed away. She silently shed tears for all the weight that burdened her chest. And after letting it all out, when she had no more tears to shed, she returned bravely and steadfastly for her siblings. She noticed Fabian clenching his jaw. "Shut up. You don't know what I'm going through!" he said firmly. Regina remained silent. She respected Fabian because he was right. She didn't know what he was feeling except for the pain. Fabian spent the whole afternoon on the balcony, lost in thought, while Regina stood by, watching over him. Despite any attempts to shoo her away, she didn't budge. She knew her job was challenging. But on the other hand, she made an effort to understand the young man's situation. Dinner time arrived, and Regina prepared a meal for Fabian. She went down to the kitchen and fetched the food for him. Returning to his room, she placed the tray on the table and then went to him on the balcony. Fabian had been there for hours, sitting and lost in thought, letting out sighs from time to time. There were moments when Fabian drifted off to sleep there. When he woke up, he remained in the same place. "Fabian, your dinner is ready. Please eat. You also need to take your meds," she said in a gentle voice. Receiving no response, Regina went back inside the room, retrieved the food tray, and brought it to the balcony. She placed it on the table and spooned some food onto the plate. "I'll feed you, Fabian. Please open your mouth," she said softly, bringing the spoon to his mouth. But he remained aloof. "Fabian," she tried to get his attention. She heard him sigh. Regina thought he might protest, but she was surprised when Fabian opened his mouth in silence and accepted the spoonful of food she offered. Throughout the meal, the two remained silent. Regina also had no difficulty giving him his meds. After eating and taking his medicine, Fabian stood up from his seat. Regina quickly supported him as he walked. "Careful, take it slowly," she said gently, guiding him to sit on the bed. Fabian lay down and closed his eyes. "Are you going to sleep, Fabian? Will you rest now?" she asked softly, tucking him in. Fabian still didn't respond, so Regina spoke again. "I'll just take your dishes to the kitchen. I'll come back here. I'll watch over you until you fall asleep," she said to Fabian. With no response from him, Regina left the room carrying Fabian's dishes and headed to the kitchen. She found Auntie Davie there. "Regina, did Fabian eat?" Auntie Davie asked, looking at the tray in Regina's hands. "Yes, Auntie. He also took his medicine and is resting now," she replied. "Thank you very much, Regina," Auntie Davie said. "You're welcome, Auntie." "Have you eaten dinner?" "I'll have it later, Auntie. When Fabian is asleep," she said. "Alright." After that, she bid farewell and returned to Fabian's room. When she entered, she found Fabian already deeply asleep. She tidied up the scattered items in the room before deciding to leave to rest. "Good night, Fabian. Until tomorrow," she said from the foot of the bed before leaving his room. Regina went to the kitchen and had her meal. She found some other helpers there, about to rest. Auntie Davie was nowhere to be seen, probably resting as well, as it was late at night. After eating, Regina washed her dishes and then went up to her room. Feeling exhausted from the day, even though all she did was watch over Fabian, she decided to rest for about half an hour when she entered her room. She rearranged her belongings and placed them in the dresser. She then took a shower. She enjoyed the warm water so much that she soaked in the bathtub. She even dozed off there and lost track of time, realizing it was already midnight. After her bath, she came out of the bathroom wearing only a towel. She headed to the dresser to get her clothes and change. Suddenly, she heard what sounded like something breaking coming from the third floor. She paused and listened closely. And when she confirmed that there were things breaking upstairs, she panicked and rushed out of her room without realizing that she was only wearing a towel. "s**t! Fabian!" In that moment, all she could think about was Fabian. Upon arriving on the third floor, she immediately opened the door and entered the room. "F-Fabian, what's happening?!" she exclaimed in alarm and quickly embraced him when she noticed him sitting at the edge of the bed, head bowed, pulling at his hair and crying. Regina couldn't miss the shattered laptop on the table. "Fabian..." she tried to get his attention. But with no response from Fabian, she let him cry. She gently rubbed his back. "It's okay. Just cry," she whispered. "I'm here. I'll wipe away your tears," she said softly, then gently released her hold on Fabian. She held his cheeks and wiped the tears from his eyes. Their eyes seemed to meet, but Regina didn't dwell on it too much. "You have beautiful eyes. But if you need to cry, I'm here, Fabian. I'll be your handkerchief and wipe away your tears," she said, looking directly into his eyes. She knew Fabian couldn't see her. But she hoped she could make him feel that he wasn't alone. That she was there for him and ready to support him. She wiped Fabian's tears again and hugged him tightly. She buried his face between her shoulder and neck. Regina breathed a sigh of relief when she felt no resistance from him. All she felt was that he was gradually calming down as he continued to cry while she held him. And that was the last moment Regina remembered as she assured him that she was ready to listen and wipe away his tears. Because after that, sleep suddenly overcame her, and she didn't realize she had fallen asleep while holding Fabian close. Regina woke up the next morning feeling freezing cold. She intended to open her eyes to grab a blanket and wrap herself in it. However, she hesitated and pondered why she had woken up in Fabian's room instead of her room on the second floor, lying at the foot of his bed. She thought about what had happened. Remembering why she was there, Regina quickly adjusted her position. She didn't dwell on where Fabian was at that moment, especially since he wasn't by her side, especially after she fell asleep hugging him last night. As she rose from the carpeted floor, ready to leave, she noticed she was actually naked and the towel that had been wrapped around her body last night was now on the floor. "Oh my God!" she exclaimed loudly. She was about to pick up the towel when she heard Fabian clear his throat. She looked around and found him seated on the sofa, facing her. "Good thing you're awake now. I've been trying to wake you up. Please leave my room and prepare my breakfast," Fabian said. In those moments, Regina didn't even consider that Fabian was blind, as he appeared to be staring directly at her naked body. It almost seemed like he could truly see her. Regina approached Fabian instead of panicking and covering herself immediately. She quietly walked up to him and sat silently in front of the table, though she wasn't sure why she did it. Meanwhile, Fabian remained gazing straight ahead where she had stood earlier. But as she drew closer, he closed his eyes and let out a deep sigh. Regina shook her head. She must be losing her mind for not leaving immediately and approaching Fabian instead. It seems like she made herself a bait for Fabian. It was fortunate that his blue eyes were blind. Otherwise, it would have been embarrassing for her, as her naked virgin body was exposed to him.
