Steph, who’d expected to toss and turn all night over Lilou’s f*******: status, slept well, and was surprised to find herself the last one up for once. Tobias and Leo were both dressed and ready to hit breakfast when she emerged from the bathroom, and Annika was gone altogether.
“She’s been out and about for a while,” volunteered Tobias, correctly interpreting her searching look. “I reckon you’re going to have to get up early if you want to stay in that race.”
I don’t.
Steph scowled at him but forgot all about Annika when they met a clearly agitated Gittie outside the barn. “Blue is colicking. I just called the vet.”
Tobias and Steph exchanged a worried look. Colic in a horse could mean anything from a mild gastrointestinal upset to impending death.
