Chapter 42Annika
Annika pulled up a folding chair she’d wrangled from Nicole. Jesse’s significant other was hard to dislike, try as she might. Nicole was filling in at the office trailer where she and Jesse shared a room. She spoke only limited German, but Annika had enough background in English from school and communicating with visitors to the gallery that she got her request across. During her brief chat with Nicole, Annika had also begun to understand how Nicole and Jesse had become partners. She was a lot more outgoing than Jesse and seemed a good balance for her.
