There was a note on the door of Rachel’s work locker.
Before you start this morning, come to the front desk.
Had she done something wrong? Rachel pulled her hair up into a ponytail and went to find out.
“The boss has had a heart attack,” Colin said.
A heart attack? A tight band constricted Rachel’s chest. Was she about to embarrass herself by bursting into tears? Why was it that every time she was happy something happened to make her life fall apart? She’d never had a boss like Dirk. Someone who treated his workers like family, finding out their strengths and encouraging them to use them. Last week he’d even asked her opinions about the front entrance display.
Was she about to lose her job? Colin was good at sales and relating to customers, but he wasn’t manager material.
